What's Your Next Move
How Excellence Rises After Being Driven Into The Ground
September 14, 2018 Arlene Battishill
Welcome to What’s Your Next Move, the podcast for peak performers who are making things happen but are running into roadblocks that prevent them from getting what they want. In today's "What's Your Next Move" episode, "How Excellence Rises After Being Driven Into The Ground", Gary provides a heartbreaking account of a life nearly destroyed by the self-hatred and self destructive behavior he developed and engaged in his entire life as a result of being in environments that were destined and determined to refuse him his authentic life as someone gay. As devastating as this is, the ending is stunningly powerful! From his earliest years of having a crush on Mark Wahlberg to a Bible college he attended, on into the military and years of alcohol addiction to numb himself from the depression associated with having to make choices about loving and being loved, Gary is now engaged in a battle with the Bible college he attended that is refusing to allow him to graduate with his degree. Two online classes short of graduating, the college has refused to readmit him because he is gay even though they knew he was gay the entire time he was attending. The court of public opinion has weighed in and the response has been extraordinary! This episode is a must listen as we look at how refusing to allow people to be who they are and preventing them from pursuing their dreams because of who they are can have devastating consequences, surely something we as a society need to be looking at... we cannot look at ourselves as loving people and act with such hatred. A powerful episode to be sure! I'm your host and resident provocateur, Arlene Battishill.
