Searching for Codes on Facebook
Show Notes

There’s growing concern in the healthcare industry regarding offshore and untrained staff getting their CPT® and ICD-10 codes from non-verified Internet sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms.

This practice aligns with another troubling trend: the use of Google by folks leveraging the Internet for self-diagnosis, doing so with a misdirected sense of trust in all things online while hoping to reach their own conclusions about their illness.

During this edition of Talk Ten Tuesdays, nationally recognized professional physician coder and auditor Terry Fletcher reports on how, in this day and age of limited time with doctors, this practice can undermine the role of the physician.

The episode will also feature these other segments:

  • The Coding Report: Laurie Johnson, senior healthcare consultant at Revenue Cycle Solutions, LLC, reports on the 2020 fiscal year’s proposed CC/MCC designation changes that did not happen in the Final Rule, but will be discussed during a listening session Oct. 8.

  • Five Looking at Ten: Guidelines and the Coding Clinic: Join us for this month-long series on ICD10monitor and Talk Ten Tuesdays as we examine what lessons have been learned since the nation’s healthcare system adopted ICD-10 on Oct. 1, 2015. This Tuesday, Gloryanne Bryant, a nationally recognized health information management (HIM) expert, reports on guidance from the official Coding Guidelines and the American Hospital Association’s (AHA’s) Coding Clinic.

  • The Dunn Report: National HIM expert and past American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) President Rose Dunn returns to the broadcast with another installment in her series on how HIM can play a role in other areas of the revenue cycle.

  • News Desk: Timothy Powell, compliance expert and ICD10monitor national correspondent, anchors the Talk Ten Tuesdays News Desk.

  • TalkBack: Erica Remer, MD, FACEP, CCDS, founder and president of Erica Remer, MD, Inc. and Talk Ten Tuesdays co-host, reports on an important topic that recently captured her attention.
