Speaker 1:

You are listening to the Boto facts podcast with your hosts, Robert Traywick and Jim Builder. Hey Jim. Hey Robert. How are we doing today? I am doing really good. This is, this is a great day. It's been great. Good weather. Uh, this, sorry, little hot, but it's, you know, you consider how hot it is outside to be good weather today. Today. Well, this morning. Okay. I back it up like this morning, eight o'clock in the morning. It was just under 90. Well, when I crawled out of bed it was probably 10 or 11. Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, I was pretty fortunate. Normally on Sundays I have my breakfast cooked for me and I've decided to try something different. Went outside and was able to fry my eggs on the hood of my car. Wow. Is that where you fried those? Because you shared that photo with me. Oh No, that was a joke. But yeah, dude, it's, it's, it's that hot air conditioners, not even keeping up on the way over here. I had that thing cranked up all the way to four and I kept thinking, man, I hope, I hope, uh, hope jam isn't being tight and hope he's got an air conditioner turned. Oh my gosh. No, my air conditioner is always down. Um, so as a kid, did you ever try to fry an egg on the Oh God, yeah. Oh yeah. I did too. Absolutely. It, it never, it never got anywhere. No. However, if we're going to go down that route about frying eggs on things, I did a fry, an egg on a sportster eight, eight, three motor. It, it got that hot while. I mean, it wasn't like, it was like, you know, yeah. Cooking right away. Sure. I was able to crack the egg on it and it, and it got that haunt. I think mom would shovel head would probably get get hotter, but you know, I actually made a stove, I think it was when I was in cub scouts, but I made a stove a little burner out of a coffee can. Oh yeah, yeah. Did you open up the bottom? You put twigs in it. So the air circuit? No, no. I just put a, I think I just put a candle in it or something, but I forget what I did actually for the flame, but I remember cooking an egg on there. It tasted terrible. I know, but it's the sis since it's accomplished. Exactly. Yeah. Like, oh my God, I could be a Hobo one day. Yeah, I could live like a Hobo. Right. All right, let's get back into some news right away. So we are, Jim and I have been talking about the podcast and where we're going. We've been doing this for five years now, a long time, and we've known each other longer. But we have, we have, we decided, you know, five years ago that we wanted to do something like this five years ago. I don't really remember how it all happened. I'm not sure if we were drinking. Was there a drink? You know? No, I don't know. I don't know if we were in person or on the phone or whatever, but I remember the fact that you were doing something on Youtube and, and I had previously done a podcast for my own personal family. Yeah. Life with Jim. Yes. And we just, I, I don't know specifics but it just came about. I was like, Hey, we should, we should do a podcast. Cause we both enjoy the technical part of it we'd enjoy and Robert really enjoys sharing,

Speaker 2:

uh, his, his knowledge and I enjoy the technical side of it and I enjoy my knowledge as well. So sharing my knowledge as well, but I'm just not as good as it is Robert is because I don't know as much as he does. He knows. He knows a law.

Speaker 1:

There's a lot up in my head. However we're talking about the technical stuff, you know, we had to talk about this new board. Exactly. The new board from road. Yeah. What's it called? It's okay. I'm gonna screw it up, but I'm gonna try and say it anyway. It's the road cast pro. Correct? You're not correct. Cause they also have a microphone called the road caster. I really, or maybe the road podcaster, the road podcast, I'm pretty sure it is. So yeah, I'll find folks over at road, uh, gave us a unit that we are using now, which, um, means I'm going to have to Redo our box and do something different and more compact.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. If you're not familiar with the box then you need to contact us and find out cause it's a, the original box. Robert did a great job and uh, so right now we're, we're, we're actually using the lid of the box and with the arms and the microphones and uh, you know, everything is plugged into the, to the broadcaster pro. Ooh, I like that. Ooh, the broadcast approach. So yeah, it's, it's really made our lives, my, my lives right now as far as doing this podcast. Right. So much easier. Cause I don't know if you've ever watched us do this. Maybe you thought we knew what we were doing, but I really didn't. I really just winged it, you know, it was like, oh this sounds good. Okay, let's go. You know, there's too many dials. This one, all you do is hit start. You can add some little sound effects, you know, like oh that's turned down. You know, you can add a little sound effects. There's eight, eight carts you can use[inaudible]

Speaker 1:

right. Because before we had everything hooked up to the um, iPad and that's how we did a cart. Right. And I thought it worked out really good. We did a great job, but um, I'm really, I don't know, I'd love to have the guys over at Rohde, whoever developed this because I think they were like inside of our closet listening to our complaints or what we built. Yeah. Because the one thing that I'm excited about the absolute most is hooking up to a cell phones and doing interviews on cell phone. How many times we've done that, oh gosh, call or we couldn't make it work. We couldn't make it work. You couldn't hear them very well. Fixed minus, that seems a mixed minus thing. Yeah. If you guys want to go down to any kind of like long road on the Internet of searching the interweb just type in mix minus, that'll get you going.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. And who knows? I didn't even know what that's what it was called, you know, but there's an actual toggle switch on here. Mix minus. You just turn it on and you can plug in a phone directly, uh, to, you know, Bluetooth, right? It'll Bluetooth as well. So you could actually have two phones going, uh, an iPad or, or, um, uh, you and also USB in each one of those have its own channel. And you can plug in a computer, you can play a youtube video and, and use the audio. You can play iTunes, you can play any, any audio at all on your computer, will play on that channel.

Speaker 1:

It's, I'm just so excited about that. That's what I'm excited about. Yeah, I'm excited. Okay, so I want to give a shout out to Joe Edelman, which is an amazing photographer and educator, so be sure to check out his website@joeedelman.com. Uh, and we had him on the podcast and we looked like a bunch of[inaudible].

Speaker 2:

Yes, that's right. We were, he was on the phone.

Speaker 1:

He was on the phone. Yeah. Having problems trying to get connected and he couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear him and he couldn't hear the music and, and he was so, uh, you know, professionals at work word you use a lot. But to me he was so humble in allowing us to make mistakes taken up. His valuable time to be on our podcast was understood. He was understanding, he was very understanding with us. Joe Edelman was gentle with us.

Speaker 2:

So just, you know, keep listening. We'll, we'll ha we're going to have some interviews on here, probably most likely with some phone interviews cause that that would make it easier. We can do the across the world, you know, if you wanted to know. So

Speaker 1:

the one thing I'm really, really excited about, so thank you so much road for the, uh, ability to make better sound easily for our listeners. Now, with that said though, I want to say to our listeners, we would love to have a little bit more interaction. Yep. So this is what we're going to do. We are finding that there's a little bit of confusion on our Facebook page between the Facebook page and the Facebook listener group listener group that is off of that page. So we are going to can the listener group and try and keep all the information on the main Facebook page. Yeah. Uh, there's not a lot of activity over there and I think there's some confusion on where to get the most and Gemini when we share information, we're having to share it to different places because maybe to different people or the same person may not be in the same place actually. So I think that's gonna help. But along with that, um, we want some input from you because I'm so excited to try out this. Um, ability to phone call record on this great box. We want information. Tell us who your favorite photographer is and what you want to learn. And let's see if we can reach out to someone and try this thing out.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we'll, we'll, we'll reach out to them. We'll, we'll contact them. We'll, you know, we'll, we'll get in touch with them if we can and say, hey, we'd love to have you on the show and we can do it. We can do it via Skype and any kind of, Oh yeah. You just like to plug in the Skype. Well you just, you just know. You just connect your computer. That's, that's me. Mike's, no, none of that stuff. No. It handles all the, all the, all the audio. No problem. Yes. Oh God, that is, sorry. Sorry for the dog barking in the background. That would be my niece Doug. Oh, you're at least dog. Yes. Oh, I thought that was a cart that was preloaded. No, that's not my cart is, that's not a cart now. Preload on the road. Castor pro. No. Well, if you like and you like the road cache a pro, be sure to talk to road and ask them for the barking dog cart. Yes. Yeah. That's a photo facts podcast. Special edition, limited units. Only available to find, yeah. They only put out five of them. They only produce five of those. Yeah. But realistic dog background sounds. Yeah. So yeah, so we're gonna we're going to get rid of that Facebook group. Um, so that'll be, that'll be, uh, just one less thing we have to, to, uh, share to, to share and watch, you know, and then tell him about some exciting news. We have come in some exciting news we have coming. Yes. Is we are going to do more content on our youtube channel. We have the photo facts[inaudible] podcast. Youtube channel. Correct. It's there. It's been there. There hasn't been a lot of uploaded, some funny outtakes of that. That didn't you, they're not outtakes. There is a complete interview. Oh, well where's all the outtakes that we had? Shoot me up. There are some other ones that are already, I think a, there's one of us that's, yes, yes. There are some outtakes from interviews. Yes. Right there. Right. I think there is because, because what we did is we did the, the interview via Google hangout. This was, these are from 2015 that I, that I post, especially the one from, uh, Julio Scoria. No, Julio Cherio. Oh, do you have that down? Like, so good. Less. Cause I remember him telling me what the proper pronunciate pronunciation is and I'll probably wasn't paying attention. You don't, but anyway, yeah. So it's six. I had some, uh, I had them on another channel and I decided to go ahead and, uh, no, I I had download them. Yeah. We had another channel. I downloaded those and we had recorded them on Google hangouts, so, and we took the audio from that and created the audio version, but the podcast is podcast. So we, I just thought I would post them and because they're a great interviews, great, great photographers. Uh, Julio Cherio, uh, Luke Edmundson, um, Barbara, I forget her last name. She's, no, she's a pet photographer. Really great photographer. Um, oh, that's the one you did? I did by myself. Yeah. I actually, I was, I think I tried to be on that. Yeah. But I was traveling and try to do it on the phone. Yeah. And that's when that mix minus kind of bits in the butter cancer did. Yeah. I think I had that hang up cause it was messed up the podcast. Well, and you were, we were trying Google hangouts at that point. You were trying to do Google hangouts on the phone while I was driving. But anyway, so I shared those to the youtube channel. We're going to, we're going to, Robert and I are going to do weekly tips and

Speaker 1:

tricks. Yeah. Just a quick little five minute. It's not going to be a high production value. No, it's not. Gonna we're not gonna spend time on it. I'm going to probably do it just like right in front of my Imac. Yeah. And just talk about some of the things, like one of the things I want to, I want to talk about is going to be my transition into Fujifilm. Right? Yeah. Um, so with the transition to that, this is now one year of shooting Fujifilm and full time in my professional job. Yeah. Then that's all you're shooting[inaudible] shooting. I haven't actually had touched a Nikon, um, Thursday to help photographers set their camera up to do some event photography. Uh, other than that, I haven't touched'em I haven't touched, I've, I haven't shot with a Nikon or a or any other camera in my iPhone, I guess. So we can, uh, I'm gonna talk to some tips and tricks on that. If you're thinking about switching over to Fujifilm products, really enjoy them, or even if you're thinking about switching switching systems, uh, you're, you know, it would be helpful maybe to hear how the transition went and, uh, I mean, one of the things I enjoyed is when I picked up the Fuji x pro two, I mean, it hit fit perfectly in my hand. I mean, the way that the grip feels, the way that my, my finger tilts back to hit the shutter button, it just completely aligned. Now my finger is a little bit odd and maybe that's why it fits so well. It really just was a perfect fit for my hand grip. Yeah, I can, I can understand that. I'm very similar to that, but, but I'm a little different than Robert. I'm still shooting Nikon as well as Fuji. I've got two food. I Birch, I'm a hybrid shooter. Yes. Because I just, I have certain, uh, not needs, I just have certain preferences. It's pre tween the to send it and it's not a good or a bad thing, just your shooting style and the stuff you do is, that's, that's right. And, and I can talk about that on my weekly youtube tricks, tips and tricks and whatever, whatever comes up. So if you have any questions that you want us to answer or go over a review a be sure to hit us up on twins and photo facts, podcast.com and just, uh, if you want like in the uh, subject of the email put on there, jam or Robert or, or put twins, right. And then ask you a question. That way we can, we actually get quite a bit of traffic on the email address and that would be easier for each of us to figure out which ones we might be doing. And as far as the youtube, it could possibly be both of us on the Youtube Channel, on the Youtube episode weekly thing. But what we thought about is just each one of us doing our own and then, yeah, cause sometimes be difficult. We're just trying to add content and the more, more stuff, more options to follow us and uh, learn. Right. So with that content request, if there's anything or anyone you want to hear from, please shoot us an email or leave us a voicemail. Yeah, go check us out@photopodcast.com and uh, use our Facebook page to, uh, discuss or post post they can post, they can post, it'll, it'll post it as a visitor, as a visitor. Okay. But we can also add a poll in there, couldn't we? Yeah, we can do a poll and had them from there. So if we're going to interview anybody right now, who would be your choice? Mine. Yeah. Um, gosh, I, I caught you off guard. Yes. Uh, I'm thinking, I think I'll be able to had him almost at him. Just want to go back to the Bazinga question.[inaudible]. Yeah. Jim, if you were apparel, underwear, what kind of underwear would you be sax, which by the way, I'm actually wearing'em. The is do loose. Is that where it is? The Duluth Duluth. The Duluth are Chillo underwear thing cause it's so hot. Really like really? It's called[inaudible]. I had alerted those, you know, you know if you go back a few episodes, several episodes, we actually talked about not that many episodes. You don't have to go back that far. Uh, we, we actually did talk about sax underwear and I actually am wearing them and I actually bought a pair for Robert because I liked him so much. And for my brother as well. That's what brothers do to each other. Anyway. I think that's funny is all kinds of hell. Yeah. Just saying. Yeah. Good. So who would you who'd like to have? I didn't come up with somebody probably uh, I was gonna say Gary Hughes, but he's already been on the show, but not by himself. Can Yeah, we can have, oh that's a great idea. We just have him on the phone. A little update. Yeah. Cause I'm excited to try the whole phone thing. Oh, me too. I like to have Joe Edelman on again. I would like to have, okay, you're ready. Nino bad Tiesta. Oh yeah. Oh Charlie neunschwander wish walking. I can't say. I can't either. I can't see in Charlie and we need to get him on. Yeah, but he ain't, I'll call him and say we've got to drive. So I guess, yeah, we can, we need to get him on the show. You know what? We could always invite them over here. The studio for the recording. It's okay. I need you to sit back in the TV room and then call us and we'll, oh yeah. That way if we do have any problems with it, then you just, Oh hey, he's walking in the hall now. Yeah. Yeah. You can just join and now we're, there won't be any issues. It'll be great. When you said Charlie, I was thinking about the old Charlie, Charlie, uh, Christine. Yes. I miss her. Yes. I, I think we need to have her back on the show. Yeah, next time she's in town. We'll have to, the reason is, I know that recently you shared, um, a youtube video about some of the things that models go through. Exactly. Yeah. That was a, that's a great video is a great gift here. If you haven't seen it, go to our Facebook page and look for that. It's a, I forget the title, but it's about, it's about, um, models and photographers

Speaker 2:

and do's and don'ts and stuff. But it's coming from a male, a female photographer. I thought she was a model at first.

Speaker 1:

It seemed like she should, I mean she quite striking up. Yeah, she could model as well.

Speaker 2:

But it, it's, it's a result of a lot of this stuff that's going on, on the Internet between other photographers, uh, being male photographers being inappropriate. And so there, there, uh, she, she was re, um, not really talking on that specific, she was just talking in general as far as getting together with, with, uh, models, getting together with photographers. And then she talked about the models and then she talked about the photographers and,

Speaker 1:

right. She did from both sides of the fence, basically herself. And what to do and do not do type[inaudible].

Speaker 2:

Yeah. And we've talked about that before in the past, but this was really more in depth and very, I thought it was very informative and I shared that with a few models that I know, so it was really good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'd really like to have Charlie come back on the, uh, on the podcast with Charlie if you're listening. I know you do travel a lot. The reach out to us. We'd love to have you back on the podcast when you're in town. Yeah, that'd be good. So, alright, well good, good. So what else we got to talk about? I think that's, I think that's it, right? Yeah. So how long has this one been? This has been 19 minutes. 19 minutes. This is going to be the shortest podcast ever. No, no, no. I think I've done the shorter one by myself, but no. All right. Well, what do we, what do we have coming up? Anything? I know we've been both been pretty busy over the summer, so I had a great visit, a great event that I shot in Phoenix. It was a a, Oh yes. Let's talk about that Hispanic Engineering, um, conference. Let's talk about that. Let's talk about GM abandoning the photo factory pass in Memphis at photo expo. Yeah, let's talk about that. Let's go ahead and talk about that. Not that I'm sore or anything. Let's talk about that. Yeah, that was hard. That was, it was a hard decision because I was not a hard decision cause you called me up. I'm like, man, Robert helped me decide cause he's like, you want to make money or do you want to go have a vacation? And I was like, okay, well I mean, you know, and most of the listeners out there know that we do this completely out of our own pocket, do this because we enjoy it. And we've been very fortunate to have different manufacturers and different groups like road, uh, support our podcast and Bedford Camera, um, actually allow us to travel to their shows and being PPA. And at one point they had us come out. So we've had, uh, quite a bit of notoriety. So it's great going to these shows and having access to these world renowned speakers. Um, one of our favorite is Don Hamilton, that he's a regular at the a photo facts podcast booth. He's part of the family. He's part of the family. But, um, you know, when it, when you think about it, and this goes out to you guys as well off there, um, don't get caught thinking that you're busy searching the internet or searching the Internet thinking that you're busy and productive because you may not be, you know, may get tired at the end of the night, but you haven't moved the ball forward. And Jim had a tough decision to make, which was, hey, I have an opportunity to make a good paycheck for a couple of days worth of work in Phoenix.

Speaker 2:

It was four days and I was gone for six because two of them were flying and getting there and all that. But, you know, getting much self set up and all that. But yeah, it was, it was great. I was, I've done three, this is my third, uh, event with them. Uh, um, well that's one thing we talk about. This was, this was an event where it's an ongoing relationship with that company. Yeah. And I couldn't say no, you know, cause I've never said no yet. So, um, you know, there may be some point. I, I may, but it just happened that the days were the same. The weekends were the exact same weekends. And you know,

Speaker 1:

well we missed you a lot cause the, there wasn't, I was too busy. I couldn't even run the, there was nothing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. You guys, you didn't do any episodes.

Speaker 1:

I really was hoping to get ahold of Don Hamilton to take your, Bob, you're taking anything. I took the mini the age six, the 86 that I was going to go on and do just do a quick scan and what, excuse me, I was gonna do a quick little down dirty podcast with the, uh, road smart labs, which I really loved those things and I couldn't because I was ad dummy. Now I wasn't a dummy. Uh, I'm a busy, I'm a lot older than I think I am. And, uh, so I did the, the um, Beale street at scourge and that didn't end til 10 30. And by the time I got back to the room, it was almost one. And cause you were talking a lot, cause I was talking, I wasn't even there and I knew that and you knew that. But then I had to get up at four 30 in the morning to do the six o'clock wake up call because Robert needs that amount of time to get up the crown. That's true. Uh, whatever time I have to be somewhere, I gotta count back at least eight hours. At least two hours. That's how I have two hours. I've got to have, get up, have some coffee. In that particular morning I had no coffee because nothing was open. I was so upset. Even the coffee maker in the room just did not produce the golden brew that I needed. But anyway, so, uh, yeah, there was a great show

Speaker 2:

was in and was fabulous and we missed you. Yeah. And let us point out. Photo Expo. That was the Bedford camera and video. Uh, from Little Rock, little rock post that. Yeah, but about, are we allowed to say anything about, uh,

Speaker 1:

anything you mean about for the next year? Elvis. Elvis was not at the show. He was not at the show. But um, no, we don't have any details. We yeah, we've, we've talked, Jim and I are on the inside of properties. I'm not, yeah,

Speaker 2:

you're the one that goes all the, all the time to the meetings. I don't, I don't get invited to the meetings so,

Speaker 1:

well because you're busy. They'll get tired of inviting you go like, Hey Jim, where the mean like it, I got a shooting invited, I gotta shoot, I gotta shoot. I'm like okay. And Robert is not busy. And I'm like, oh y'all bull. It's no big deal. We'll talk about that.[inaudible] talk about it. Cause nothing has been really firmed up other than other than photo con in 2019 or 2020 in March. I hope I have 2020 in 2020. You have 20, 20 in 2020. Cause I hope that I'll have 20, she'll have them problems. Yeah. The only thing I do know as it is confirmed that Jerry Keon is, will be a keynote speaker. Ooh, Nice. Yes. So, um, so we owners will be there. So if you're wondering about Jerry Jones know about my sales delicious. I did have eye surgery. That's what Vanessa said. I did have eye surgery and if you're interested or if you don't know, just uh, in touch with us. You know what? I think that's something you do on your youtube. I do. I did do need to do that because on the, on the youtube channel for five minutes, could you create like a little overlay or something and say this is what I see. This is what I see. I actually did that and send it on Voxer. Remember that I s I sent it a little picture. Oh yeah, I was a picture. I'm talking about a video cause you, okay. Was it a video? I don't know how I would do a video. Well you printed on something clear and then just be very clear. Be like a cheap piece of cellophane and just kind of move it around.

Speaker 2:

I will say this, I learned, so I saw a video, I watched tons of them, but they're, there is, they say there is a surgery or a procedure with laser that you can get rid of floaters. Do they come excited about that? They actually do. They show the video. It was like they were, they were shooting with a laser and they were kind of disintegrating. It was really cool. That was a 2016 video. So I'm, I'm, I'm sure they've gotten better at her. Yeah. This was another, another state. It was a video I found, cause I'm actually looking into how can I get rid of floaters cause they're a real pain in the rear. What exactly the floaters though. It's parts of your eye coming from your, I mean it's like there's a vitreous that's the fluid behind your retina. Uh, it's, it makes the shape of your eye basically. It's fluid or you know, it's like a clear,

Speaker 1:

so it's like not so it's like dirty water so it's not

Speaker 2:

Kinda, yeah, it comes out and just floats around and that's what, that's what it is in your eye.

Speaker 1:

So they came just like suck that out and put fresh stuff in like an old change. No. Well they did me. That's what I'm saying. Did you sent it out and put new in? Yes. So could they do the I to a no, I won't let them know I was out. You were there. I remember I was at, I know, I know, but I wasn't back there with you. True, true. They, but I'm sitting here thinking like, you know, normally when you're out on an operating table your eyes are closed. So if your eyes see anything it's just black. But these guys are missing with your, I know it was scary,

Speaker 2:

but I had you guys, you and my parents. I was fine. I was not nervous because I don't know why I just wasn't. But anyway, my left eye has floaters in it and it's, it's frustrating as hell. I'll just say that because they're not, nobody explains, they're not just little hairy little pieces. Let you see like everybody's got them, you know,

Speaker 1:

don't[inaudible] like we're talking to each other, we're talking to each other and we're like using our hands and

Speaker 2:

specks. I'm talking big nasty, blurry, snotty things that are, that, that are in my way a lot of the time. And when it's bright outside, I'm driving or on the computer, I really have to struggle to move that crap around to see, cause sometimes I can't even, it's not legible. It's like what? What is that?
