Intonation helps us to communicate more clearly. The pitch of our voice going up or down can show if we are giving information or asking for it, like I've demonstrated to you in so many podcasts. The grammar usually supports this, but intonation on its own can show this. The biggest pitch change happens on the most stressed word in the statement or question.
