because they've got a stocking stuffer one time with these old movies, and it's what we're doing this week, folks, is our first run of our stocking stuffer. Somebody gives somebody gives a movie over a movie, but they don't know the movies that you look

spk_1:   0:18
correct. Crack open a cold box of wine, or pour something cold on ice because it's the binge watchers podcast  Yeah, so

spk_0:   0:52
you just get a random movie. And in this week's stock and David pulled out, you move. Is the shark from 1949? I think there is a 2000 something remake of this. I thought What I mean, My smart TV has this index and it pulled out this other movie. But who Moo Moo was available like everywhere, like every free movie app has, like a copy of this movie. What I notice, though, about the Amazon prime version is it looks like a film to really like real. The real then copied under like a VHS and then digitized into HD. But I was watching it and it head like tracking lines like the film broke up into tracking lines.

spk_1:   1:35
What kind of the

spk_0:   1:36
times I was like holy shit like who saved this film using like VHS. You know why. And then and then it served up a CZ like everybody's like official HD version. You know her. But do you know what I love about this movie? Like Here is the thing I like. I like stocking stuffer. It's the sort of their most like the most random gifts you can give. Somebody was in the movies what kind of movies they likely you don't ask him like hey, or you don't know what that's like. Maybe that's what it is like friends and family. They don't know you well enough to say like, Oh, I know he's really to the Star Wars when we get him a copy of Star Wars. Or like he's really into horror films. And he always talks about the 80 so we could get him like a box set oven eighties movie or something. No, we're gonna give you this. You like it. What I do love, though, is how nostalgic it is for old movies like the credits play in the beginning. The creditor clearly like on a piece of glass over the other films it runs like this, the the plot is this? There's a bunch of sailors, and supposedly the captain visited this island before and stole some pearls from the tribe there and the pearls of supposedly cursed and then is afflicted the captain's health. So they turn around and go back to the island to try to undo the curse. But of course you know the deckhands, the second in command or whatever is really, like, greedy for pearls, right? And he's got to get them pearls. But, you know, so you watch this movie in the beginning. Like I said, it's got like oven just scratches in the film. And the sound is obviously like this really loud Gainey mono track. And then you see this little ship and clear like a model. It's like a model of a sailboat in, like a swimming pool or something for the exterior shots of it on the ocean and like and then once I was like, just crossed into the photograph of a notion. On then, half the movies literally cutaways to be your role. A wildlife footage like they take the time for the doctor who's supposed to be telling the story. That's the great thing, too, is like it reminds me of like a problem. Bram Stoker's novel, like It opens up with the doctor talking about Dracula's adventures. This opens up with the doctor talking about the curse and the people on the ship. Now I love this. I love how they like. They were so expedient ID with all their storytelling like, Oh, here's the first, mate. Here's the deckhand that doesn't get along with the first mate. Here's this other guy. He's pretty cool. Here's the Stone. You don't mean like it like what around? And just told you where the character over like tan great storytelling. That was like, Here's Jack. He's a deckhand. He's pretty good at it. He's been selling for a long time. Everybody likes him here, Steve. Nobody likes Steve. Fuck Steve And the The White List. Yeah, so, like at one point, Captain's daughter is just like talking to the you know, the ship doctor, like, is my dad getting pulled through? Then they look over the railing. Oh, my God, it's an octopus. It's gonna eat some fish. Oh, no, There's another octopus. They're having a fight, and it's like aquarium footage. It's like somebody's living room with, like, a tank and you're just watching fish swim around, you know, and it runs, like, actually reminded me of, like, exist any educational film or something that, like Disney, used to be like, Oh, let's go Look at the animators are working hard on Bambi right now. You know, like

spk_1:   5:00
eyes kind of more like felt like an Ed Wood movie at times where they had all this footage of, ah, wildlife footage. And how do we fit it into the story?

spk_0:   5:09
Oh, yeah, it's honey like you kind of wanted elected Leon Leonard worked at the same studios and wood, and they're just like looking all this incredible footage that we paid thousands of dollars to get 10 years ago. What are we gonna do with it? You know what do you got that footage of those two tigers wrestling in the bushes? Let's put that into this film and say that are that the curse is now stocking them through the jungle with with a tiger, right? It's almost like, uh, well, it's it's not. I don't want to say these Tigers are as good as the superimposed tigers and that wolf guy movie that we watched, but it's pretty close, but, like, you know what? My immediate feeling of watching this Waas like what I want. I was like this movie could be easily remain like it has a ship interior and a jungle, you know what I mean? And then, at one point, like the tribal leaders, daughter and the traveler looks like he's from, like, Brooklyn or something. You know, he's like a like an acting teacher that like, Hey, go get Mr McCormack Could completely chieftain. Yeah, you know, And like that, the tribes like the white he's tried, I've ever seen that they haven't lived a little. And then the daughter is like, looks like Betty Boop. But she's like doing it. Came dance At one point, you know, they tried to appease the gods, so he stops cursing everybody. Man, this is an easy movie to remake, like there's only two sets. There was the inside of the ship with the captain's laying there, and I was like, You could do the same thing. Like what if you remain it exactly how they made it, like you just had a model cell boat in a body of water and you gotta wait All this B roll of random shit and you know, I mean, and then what do you need? A cave and some trees like, what do you really need to make to remake this movie? The shark got not much. And I'm pretty sure it's probably in public domain, right?

spk_1:   6:54
Yeah, that's what happened everywhere.

spk_0:   6:56
Yeah. Day. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. They were funny to remake this movie. I think U

spk_1:   7:04
s So you really like this movie? They take it,

spk_0:   7:07
Dude, I don't know. Like, I guess I just had, like, a hankering for, like, an old timey movie. Like, it's how I felt like with Douglas Fairbanks. Like Robin Hood. Like I just like, I don't know, like, actually wouldn't be funny is like in today's like, like ultra HD high definition filmmaking world with everything streaming on Where this what you did. What if you weren't remain like four public domain films and you made, like, you took the old adventure films and turn them into like comedies and just ran a series of I also like the because Clearly they're paying for the film to be like, you know what, uh, developed right? So they're shooting, like so many minutes a can, and they gotta pay for all this footage. So they didn't like they didn't waste anything, right? Like they're just like this is very specific, like the first mate that deck and don't get along. And the captain and his daughter curse because they're both greedy and the first mate gets greedy, and then the whole thing is a metaphor. Agreed. If you're too great, you're gonna get cursed and you're gonna get you know, whatever shark got it. What was funny is like they re told this whole story in just like exposition. But you didn't see the action of, like the captain going to the island to find the pearls in the first place in encountering the tribe, right? You heard about all this stuff on the boat and then from a stowaway and the captain himself retelling the story. Then they go to the island for, like, the last 20 minutes of movie. But the whole movies, like, less than an hour long, I clocked it like the Virgin Nightwatch was only 49 minutes.

spk_1:   8:45
Oh, see? And the one I had was 58.

spk_0:   8:48
Oh, really? Well, there you go. Absolutely. Wait. The one I watched with 58 years on Amazon. Yeah, it's 58 but I'm saying, but it's still less than an hour.

spk_1:   8:57
Yeah, definitely. So, you know. Yeah, I

spk_0:   9:01
know where they show this movie. Like, uh, I wasn't that thing. I was gonna try, like, really dig. You know, like, who is this Leon Leonard guy? Like what other movies did he make it? Like, who were these

spk_1:   9:12
people? That's information. Yeah, myself.

spk_0:   9:17
You know what it is is like because it was, like, just that studio system where movies were like a dime a dozen. Like just They were just cranking these movies out. We just want funny, because it's like the streaming model, like the streaming stuff is just like creaking turning stuff out so people will not cancel subscriptions. And that's the old movie houses. They had a pact that every day, every day of the week, right? Yeah, for, like, 20 cents. Come see this movie and they watch three movies at the time or whatever. So is the same kind of thing that I like a man. We really need that we need something. What do you got for us, right? How about a conflict about these pearls on a boat? Yeah. You know what? We got three reels of a tiger over here. We don't know what we're gonna do with this freak fucker reels. Write it in, Joe. Okay, guys, I got you. Oh, man. What about this octopus footage we paid for, like, three years ago? Yeah, we're really sitting on that. We took a bath on that one. Don't worry, guys. I wrote it in. Holy shit. Uh, man, Yeah, I guess I guess if I got this movie, I would be pleasantly surprised. Like it wouldn't kill me to get this in my stock and be like, What is this shit? So random, So weird. All right, we'll put it on here. It's got a great title and see what would see what it's about. But, I mean,

spk_1:   10:28
it was like, what was that I was saying? Well, this was like one of 20 and a pact that I got

spk_0:   10:35
one of 20. We could just literally spent the next year unraveling all these movies that came in your pack way. Cancel. We'll cancel everything else we're gonna do. Forget for you. Forget everything else and just literally one by one. Uh oh, man,

spk_1:   10:52
Lisa will get at least one more this month.

spk_0:   10:54
At least one more. Okay, we're kind of trading off. It's like Dave stocking stuffer mine. Nick might pop up who the helmet was, Really? But the big watches, reports of the guy that stocking and then talk about it. Um, And if you like other things that we're doing, I don't know if I'll even Amazon we should really bothered to leave. Enable something for move, move the shortcut.

spk_1:   11:15
I mean, why not? It's on there.

spk_0:   11:16
All right. Okay. So I'm gonna leave before you make

spk_1:   11:18
money off it, but you know, point people to watch it if they want to. Well, yeah,

spk_0:   11:22
whatever. We'll give you a link to watch who moved the shark God on Amazon will pop it into the podcast notes. You guys could take a listen. Uh, other than that, you know what? If you go to audible trial that calm Ford's last binge watchers, there's, like, 400,000 books that somebody else were read to you. So if you want another shark related adventure or cursed by the gods, I'm pretty sure there's probably King Solomon's mine is probably in there somewhere. And if not, just listen to Corey Feldman's biography. Choreography. If you want to know what went down with the two quarries, you can almost one of my favorites have listened to that like four times. I did eventually by the real book. But that's a different story. So, David, as you would wrap this is your stocking stuffer. What, like, what do you want people to know? I mean, maybe I'm just getting to getting too excited like a small child on Christmas. But you know what's Dave's take on this whole thing?

spk_1:   12:16
I mean, when I open it up, that is cool because, you know, has a bunch of, you know, have it has, like, Reefer Madness and a few other things that have been meaning to see one of them. Maybe we'll watch for this, But, uh, you know, I think you enjoyed this one a lot more than I did. But, you know, Hey, I've got 20 other, You know, I was happy to see there's 20 other movies or 19 other move. He's on there and one's a few I've seen. So you know

spk_0:   12:38
Well, there's No. Like, uh, it hit me in the right state of mind. I got up this morning. I had, like, a list of things to Dio. I moved down this giant TV bureau thing around and I started cooking some sausage and eggs and just, like, work up some toast. You know, um, had run out of coffee, so I didn't have coffee quite this morning, but I had, like, the guy's like a cherry coke and energy drink left, and I just bought those and then turn this movie on and I go, Oh, wow, like it's definitely a classic movie. It's very obscure. If it wasn't included in your stocking stuffer, I don't even think I would have known that it existed on It's

spk_1:   13:13
me either. It's definitely like an old cereal. I guess you can't call it a serial because there was only one of them, you know, one

spk_0:   13:23
day, and I didn't recognize any of the actors. Usually I can pick out one or two people, even in the older movies, but it's like, not even I mean, I see. I thought like the daughter was gonna be a recognizable face or even the chieftain's daughter ruins of dancing in the cave. I'm like, Okay, who's she? She's, like, in, like, the, um, you know, falls in with, like, the Marilyn Monroe era in the, um whatever. Those whose Another one. Um

spk_1:   13:51
uh, Ava Gardner.

spk_0:   13:53
Yeah. Yeah. Like that whole run of, like, Hollywood actresses, right? Yeah. Like what? I don't even recognize her. You mean, like, you know, it's like, uh, I don't know. And it kind of like, if it had a sense of humor, it would have been like Gilligan's Island once the stuff of the tribe. But they didn't have a sense of humor about anything, you know, Like the first mate was just like a drunk and slightly racist. I mean, he's punching up like the stowaway for over a dozen play. That's pretty harsh interrogation. Like Like, why are you here, Smack? Why are you here? Hey, you didn't tell me why you're here. Smack smack like Well, jeez, you can't even get a word in. And then he gives like, uh, the main character, like a little effigy or whatever. And like at one point, I got to see what it was like. He gave this little necklace thing It's supposed to protect him from the curse of the shark cut. And it's just like a little look. Like a fertility goal was like a little baby wouldn't baby or something. Like what? You see it up close? All right. Random props. They're like, Hey, we don't have anything. What do you got? Terry's kid made something for their esti sight, even though s he didn't exist back then, there's the kid, was just carving a tiny little baby Put a string on it, and they're like, Oh, we use that in the movie. Sounds good to me. Uh, yeah. Many would also be great just to make a show about making these types of movies, you know? Hmm. Like just like what if there was a sitcom about, like, a Corman taik dude, you know, and like, Ah, man, we need we need you to make you know, the one with the shark. God. All right, we did done by Thursday. Okay, well, that's that's four days. We're, uh, you know, we'll go shoot it in the Palisades. We're all right. We'll get them. You look beautiful. Hey. Ah. It's actually hard to really talk about the shark God moving 25 minutes. I know very excited about it.

spk_1:   15:49
I don't like this would be a shorter one. Because if it's a little talk about one of sweeping,

spk_0:   15:57
uh, you know, it's funny, the theme of greed that was pretty interesting because we have another film. Or in fact, about that was my stocking stuffer. And it also has the theme of greed Very much, Yeah, which is really interesting. So, um, if you guys want to go check out Shark God, I'll put a link in the notes and that's our stock. And simmer for this week. What I'd like you to dio is three years winding down. So if you guys want to tell us what your favorite episode of the year was, well, we might kick out like a series of like top episodes of the year. Um, once we get closer like New Year's, maybe that'll be like the countdown like top three or whatever based on audience picks. So you should probably tell us either in our Facebook group or you can tweet it. Us or you can just like, shoots an email binge Watchers podcast at Gmail that you go everything I just said is available on the Web site. That's bw podcast dot com. And if you also Google binge watch, this podcast is gonna go to the site anyway, um, my favorite podcasts player currently is cast box of them. I don't know. A lot of people are on Apple just with podcasts, music, whatever. Um, but we're available everywhere. So you know, if you're ever Yeah, pretty much. I mean, like,

spk_1:   17:07
I used podcast addict. Then we're right

spk_0:   17:09
there. Nice, and we're positive on people's entertainment news. Lis would see what's going on in entertainment. We already talked about Nick Cage playing the cage in a movie about in a cage. Um, I was reading that the mandatory and maybe tying in stuff to the first order. I don't know exactly anybody's been following that. Siri's days been, ah, playing host and let me take a look at Disney Plus and the man Warren has a pretty good heart for somebody who's supposed to be a ruthless family hunter, but that's a good show. I mean, the value of Disney Plus is probably watching the man DeLorean. Um, John Farber was doing a lot of writing. It's probably some of his best regular. He's done. Yeah, uh, shall a bus coming back in a big way. He's got a night. A biographical film about the abuse he suffered. It is honey boy family. Yeah, like is, uh, all the drama about his family in real life. He's playing his father. Whatever. Looks like he's got his shit together. You opened a theater, and Robinson is lawsuit, which used to be actually David eyes like Old neighborhood in L. A. When we had our little college, um, apartment there, it was only if it's only a few blocks were used to live. So yeah, you're in a child. Buffy's back actually watched him eating spicy wings on that. What is that? Chills? Yeah, hot ones they send. That guy's like a really good interviewer, and you're watching that. It's for you to see them suffer through the chicken wings. That's a good gimmick. It really is. Um,

spk_1:   18:39
yeah, I enjoy that one.

spk_0:   18:41
You know, who knows? Maybe one day we'll be sitting there eating hot wings, talking about our remake of the Shark Gun movie that we can finance with 500 bucks and a pack of gum. I'm pretty sure waken put our little ship model. You know, in a pool of water will be all right. Two days. Best up. The whole fucking movie to shove in the tub. There you go. Yes, man, There's gonna parodies. He is a good idea for a sitcom that I was telling the other day he should make it over the Thanksgiving break. I was telling him, man, you should rewrite this Had this other character turning into a feature. And then I realized no writer wants to hear another writer tell him how to write something. I was like, I was like, Yeah, he probably was like, Fuck you, John. This is my story. Back off. But there's that. I try to get some writing done. I did not get any writing done over the last holiday break. I am taking another vacation around the X this time. Do more writing. I'm slower than George R. R. Martin right now and then people wait for him. Oh, they dropped the trainer for black widow. Don't know if you saw that. I like the idea of a fat Russian Captain America played by David Harbour as in the guy That's his name? Yeah, David. Yeah. Soundings Don't know if I can support his Hell, boy, I don't know if you saw his Hellboy.

spk_1:   20:16
No, I I wanted to see it before I heard all the bad reviews. No shit. Have it on my Xfinity. I I was kind of I really actually I was looking forward to it until all the all the bad reviews were coming in. And I'm like, No, I guess it's not great. I

spk_0:   20:33
think we're watching just for a rental. It has a lot of growing pains, that's for sure. I don't think it's going to get a sequel. They

spk_1:   20:43
probably not know it bombed pretty bad.

spk_0:   20:46
What's interesting? And and also kind of foolish about the black widow trailer. It's a prequel, but she obviously looks older than she waas. Right? And I saw William, uh, what was his name? William hurt the actor that his name William Hurt. There's a William Hunt. William Hurt. Anyway, he plays a general thunderbolt or whatever. Ross. General Ross and, well, he plays one of my favorite characters. Um, from big chill,

spk_1:   21:16
but, uh oh, yeah,

spk_0:   21:17
I think his name was Michael. Said his name in that movie I think it's Michael. Anyway. They get that rotoscoping thing where they do what they put the young face on. The old person, like Marvel does it the best they figured out the best, but in the trailer, it's still looked hinky to me. You know, God, you know, they're doing that rapid de aging thing or whatever, but I know what he looked like. He was younger because I watched him in his movies, you know, body shit like that. So to see him de aged, it's like That's not what he looked like. The computer got it wrong. You know what I mean? And and what we stand like, I bet you it costs, like half a 1,000,000 for the computer to get it wrong. You know, uh, it's kind of funny. What else is going on? Movie news? I had a couple of things that I wanted to talk about, that I forgot. Oh, John Boyega supposedly leaked the script to Star Wars. Episode nine E. J. What's funny is, though the eBay listing got pulled down, but nobody has screenshots or parts of the script. You think what usually follows is that parts of the script still get leaked, you know. Yeah. Um, I don't want to get enamored with Disney. Plus, I'm trying to stay neutral. Um, we're talking about it briefly before, but I still think it needs to have offerings from, like, they own the fox catalogs. Where's all the aliens? You know, like, where's all the others?

spk_1:   22:44
They said that Well, they said that they're only gonna have gnome or the highest rating of anything on Disney. Plus will be PG 13. So I'm they own who? Lulu. Or at least most of who lose. So I'm assuming that some point who lose gonna be there kind of streamer for that stuff has to be. At least that's have to imagine that's what they're gonna do with it. Because how you gonna sit on alien and Predator? And you know all the other stuff they've got access to?

spk_0:   23:12
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how they're gonna sit on it. Maybe that's what they bought it. They just want to bury it like not even used a competitive yourself. Just buried

spk_1:   23:21
No, no, because they're continuing on making stuff with Fox, so they don't wanna I don't wanna give away that cash

spk_0:   23:29
hard alien TV show. Maybe

spk_1:   23:32
I'd watch it. I I wanted a few people like dealing in government.

spk_0:   23:36
Oh, yeah. Actually coming it's better than Prometheus. So

spk_1:   23:40
a way better. Like a lot of people hated it. And I'm like, um, why, yes. Somebody give me with

spk_0:   23:47
I just don't see.

spk_1:   23:47
Like what? No, just say I've really liked it, actually,

spk_0:   23:52
Yeah, that was very cool. I have a mall like I'm a DVR. Um, but I'd like to see a bunch of Morzine o morphs like variations on the animal. You know, Right medical. Anyway, I'm a big fan of horror movie stuff in space and there they kind of missing out on that right now. Just done a lot of that going around right now.

spk_1:   24:18
That's I guess it's just not what's in vogue right now for movies. Maybe a clever Phil was the one that was like that. The Cloverfield paradox that everybody hated.

spk_0:   24:29
They're saying the indie film is dead, which is a terrible thing for me because or us, even any of our friends, it's only in the movies. No one's giving us a contract, So if we make anything, it will technically be an indie movie, but they're saying stuff is pretty much dead, that it's so well planned now the big franchises, big stories nobody's really given, like the small offerings.

spk_1:   24:51
I mean, they are, you know. I mean, they've all moved to Netflix, but, I mean, they don't have the attention that they used to that I would say they're still getting made, but they're kind of getting buried. Wow, is that that's what it feels like, anyways. There's a big boon in the nineties, like everything was like big and Indy
