Dean "Chainsaw" Cameron.

Laughter is a great way to start, so that's what we did as this wild episode unfolded.
We've been trying to convince Dangerous Dave to watch anime, but so far we have not been able to convince him that it is an art form.
All he said was," oh great another cartoon that starts out with (blank) out."

Dead Leaves is about these two whimsical rascals Pandy and Retro, who awaken with no memories of their past.  They set off on a crime spree, eventually finding themselves in an infamous prison on the moon where the warden has been experimenting on the prisoners.  They lead the prisoners in a revolt that is mind-blowing.

Well, the very 1st 1st 1st impression I had was Oh, great. Another anime with the horny guy and a chick with tits hanging out because literally, in the 1st 2 minutes, that's what there was again. But then it became its own thing. And actually, this one wasn't too bad. It had a very different style than the last two we've seen. Yeah, absolutely. Um I don't know what you know. I guess this is what, based off a manga. So this is more of a manga style? I don't know. You guys are the experts on enemy

I mean, I think the whole goal was to get fans excited about this other art form and tight of movies that they might be able to get initiated. And I thought, Well, if such is the listeners didn't know enemy because we don't talk a lot about enemy. We haven't in the past discuss a lot of enemy on the show. Um, but it did make one fan. Ham P. I don't know if you guys saw this. We got a five star last week from a fan that was like, Oh, so glad you guys were talking about enemy this time. I like the director. He was talking about the director of New Just Scroll and Wicked City. And he said, Oh, yeah, you know, he did Highlander search for vengeance, which is another animal. He did like a segment of animate matrix. So we're touching some fanshearts with ease. Ah, as you said, naked movies. David, I don't I already forgot what you said,

basically Davidson live like he was upset that it started with a scantily clad individual. It was, but there actually was a plot. There was a plot. There was, like, a reason for it. They were, like, you know, prisoners with amnesia that crashed on Earth and didn't know why they were there. And then So the first thing they do with survivors as they go looking for food and clothing, which I think is pretty, um, probably accurate. Probably what somebody would do if they had Thio if they woke up and we're just there, and now we'll go to the 2nd 1st impression. Let's jump over to Adam and I'm first impression dead leaves. Go, brother.

Okay, so I thought this was kind of like a documentary of what's gonna happen towards the end of 2020.

doesn't really start until now and like to relate it to now until they get into the prison cell and the guy's, like, antsy. And he's, like, squirming around. I felt like a man that's like all of us right now squirming around. But this reminds me of Ah, hurry, curry. Have you f l c e o. And I think I found out that the guy that made this same guy that worked on that. So I was pretty excited about how quickly this thing move. This thing is, you know, there are get speed. Yeah. Yep. High octane. Not a whole lot of things like this. It's almost like the pace of a really fast music video throughout, even in the slow parts. But it works, and Ah, and I enjoyed it. I mean, whoa. How many bullets did they have?

They have an unlimited amount of bullets. This is that hyper intensive, like, zany like animation, where you you're the bullets are unlimited. And the violence is like, just tell her, but But I was gonna say Like, um, once Lee, there's, like, no time for expositions. Like you were saying that such a fast pace, like it is like a music video. But the exposition is literally laid over like the next action sequence, right? Like when it's talking about their backstory. But you're going through all these like rigmarole, you know, things that are happening in the prison. Um, but I'm going in the plot, so I've kind of breaking the first impression rule. So I need Nick's first impression, and then I can tell you what I thought when I saw it the first time.

This is a quote that I wrote these guys this weekend. When I first saw this, I said, Holy shit, this one is crazy. I feel like I just did 10 lines of coke while I was watching this. Yeah, well, basically ah, male and female wake up on earth and it's clearly like dystopian like everything is kind of broken down. It looks like a metropolis type city, you know, like a Superman comic. But then it gets pretty crazy, like within seconds. Like the guy says, Hey, you look like a panda bear. So he calls her Pandey. She looks at him and because his TV is like a TV set is essentially his head. Right. So, like, Oh, you're retro. You got a retro style screen for face, and then they're ejected after they go on a crime spree. Well, I would say like crime spree by necessity because they're trying to lock down food and food and clothing, right? So then they duke it out with the police after, like, a bank robbery, and then they get shot up to the moon to some maximum security space prison. And then all the prisoners were wrapped up in these little I know sleeping bags that were like straitjackets that they can't get out of on. All they do is they feed them, then they make them poop and then they throw them back in their cells. Um, there is some Randy nous because they decided to hook up, and so they break their jumpsuits and then they left the other prisoners out. And then it's like that. It's like a prison riot slash escape. But then there's used to prison guards six and seven. But in the in the script and also in like, the subtitles, it says 666 and 777 But in

audio dubbing is just like six and seven and Then you find out what, like Pandey was like the nanny of the prison warden when she was a child and rid of the story. So the warden is so warped that when her prison daddy dies, who was the previous ward? And she wants to grow this giant space bug to make the story riel. And somehow there was, like, a massive explosion of this dean, a workshop or something. And Pandey and retro of these manipulated prisoners that have what? I don't know, enhanced abilities, right? Like some of the other prisoners. Like the guy with this drill dick, which is, like the leaders, like the main supporting character, like he's all for it, right? I mean, he is extremely horny, but he does want to help out in every way shape possible. Sure. Yeah. Hey, Hooks up with the other prisoners were reminded me of, like, one flew over the cuckoo's nest. When he's talking about don't get yourself caught in the hallway. You know what I mean? Because the orderly is will attack you. And that's kind of like what this character was like. Then, um, they jump on a super training down to try to get to the space stocks to get on a spaceship to get out of there. And it's the whole movie because I think, Dave, what do you say last week that the movies, like, 53 minutes or something?

Like they have these crazy animation cels, A lot of style, a lot of story crammed into a thing that's like less than an hour. So you wonder like, OK, are they literally just trying to use, like, the expediency of not having a lot of money to get the animation done and tell this whole massive story because this could be a movie. It could be feature length. I was thinking like I was even done like this could be a live action movie. Honestly, like they could adapt this for live action. And they already have the storyboards done. You could just take this anime be like, this happens. This happens, This happens. This happens, execute the movie. You know, of course, you probably couldn't. Some of this stuff is probably so over the top that look, it could only be as a cartoon like that's the value of cartoons, right? They can do things that you can't get away with. Like with censorship, right? I mean, you just you can't get away with it, right? I mean, my wrong, I mean

The Rambo is more like that Rambo than the other two Sequels, and the whole thing is like, But then he makes some mistakes that that I'm like, Oh, yeah, Rambo would kind of make that mistake because, actually, if we're talking about which one is more of a scholar or mildly intelligent, probably Rockies is actually smarter than Rambo is rambles like a machine, right? So, um, he makes a couple mistakes in this movie that I think could have ultimately, you know, helped out. But I don't want to give spoilers because I'm like, maybe I should make these guys watch all the Rambo movies, and then we'll do like a whole Rambo thing, E s O s. O. Um well, if Zach actually started to shows that my first to Siri's 1st 1 is called Spencer, uh, with Chad Lowe, which was Rob Lowe's brother and who's now big director. That one and I had been with the smaller agency and that anyway, because of that show. I signed with his very big agency, called the William Morris Agency and then but fast times. When I did the apartment fast, I played Spicoli in fast times. The TV show Everyone in show biz was curious and piteous of the poor person who was going to places going on television and so that it put me on the map. It really put me on the map in Hollywood, and it ran for just long enough for me not to blow it and be OK in it. But Amy Heckerling, who directed the movie Fast Times in a bunch of the executive producer of the Siri's, directed one to the episodes. She was going to direct a movie the following summer called Summer School, and Carl Reiner also had a deal at Paramount, and Carl Reiner's movie fell through, and they offered him any script and summer school. So Amy was out of that. But while we were doing fast time, she was talking about this movie summer school that she was gonna do, and she kept talking to Patrick Dempsey and Wallace Langham, who were both in best time, saying, You guys would be great for these two guys chainsaw on Dave and I was going.

And, um So after I booked the gig, you know, they knew I played music. And Jeff Levy, the producer, said, Can you come up with the sort of Bo Diddley thing for the end song and maybe Elvis Presley, because I think we're gonna have you turn into Elvis. Okay, I wrote the King. I had a little task. Camp four Track and I demoed The King is back. I really liked it. It's a good song. And then he said, What about a rap? For like, the story song like I'm So Bad With Names, this Siri's Pretty Prince of Bel Air like The Prince of Bel Air Song. And so, yeah, so I is my preparation for Oculus read Dracula. And so I based the Rap on Dracula and also got a William Safire reference in there, too, which is open, and Gillette says it's one of the coolest rhyming couplets he's ever heard. And it was supposed to last a couple days, and I was at that point doing this show called Baghdad Cafe. It was a pilot TV series of Baghdad Cafe. And so I do that during the day and then go toe reach the reshoots at night at this landfill up sort of north of L. A. But it started raining. I was in

just raining. So the reshoots lasted two weeks. And because I was so tired, there was a problem on Baghdad Cafe. I have been offered this part on Baguette Cafe. Is this the script? Anyway, I ended up getting fired from that because I didn't have time to call my agent ago. That director doesn't understand that this was an offer, and he's telling me to do it like the audition anyway, so I did. Um, And I my girlfriend at the time was moving out. It was all heart breaking. It was just a crazy time. But, uh so yeah, so we shot at this landfill for two weeks in the rain, and it was crazy just all night, these all night shoots. But Emilio and Charlie were the nicest guys you've ever
