"If you want to get cast in a movie, call Emilio Estevez an idiot."
We didn't say it, but our guest did.  A total '80s icon himself, it is none other than
Dean "Chainsaw" Cameron.

Laughter is a great way to start, so that's what we did as this wild episode unfolded.
We've been trying to convince Dangerous Dave to watch anime, but so far we have not been able to convince him that it is an art form.
All he said was," oh great another cartoon that starts out with (blank) out."
We bring you the wild rocket ride of this movie --- Dead Leaves, which plays out like an extended music video on acid.  Nicky Lates said,"holy $%^# this movie is so crazy, it's like I just did 10 lines of coke while watching this."

Dead Leaves is about these two whimsical rascals Pandy and Retro, who awaken with no memories of their past.  They set off on a crime spree, eventually finding themselves in an infamous prison on the moon where the warden has been experimenting on the prisoners.  They lead the prisoners in a revolt that is mind-blowing.

We compare Blood: The Last Vampire to Dead Leaves, we discuss movies we are watching to cure the boredom of the stay-at-home apocalypse, the stay-at-home episode of SNL is reviewed, Crawl the gator horror flick comes up, and Rambo: Last Blood is in our queue.

We are joined by Dean Cameron to make this podcast the greatest Dean Cameron interview of all by asking him the same 10 questions everyone asks Dean Cameron.

However, Dean does reveal potential plot details of a Ski School 3, "partying" with the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia gang, and we explore more than Dean's acting chops because we also riff about his musical journey.

We can appreciate that Dean played the first binge-watcher in cinema history with his role as Chainsaw in Summer School.

We pitch Dean Cameron on the Dean Cameron Netflix show.

He shares set stories, props, and explains why they had to reshoot the ending of Men At Work.

I will show you laughter, though I will start with laughing because that's always a good way to start a show. So we're here to talk about dead leaves, which is an anime. We're forcing David to watch all of this dangerous anime. We can live up to his name, and so far we haven't got to impress him with anything.

spk_1:   0:21
Correct. Open a

spk_0:   0:22
cold box of wine. or pour something cold on ice. It's the binge Watchers podcast

spk_2:   0:51
and so I think we'll start with that leaves dangerous. Dave, what is your first impression of dead leaves?

spk_4:   0:59
Well, the very 1st 1st 1st impression I had was Oh, great. Another anime with the horny guy and a chick with tits hanging out because literally, in the 1st 2 minutes, that's what there was again. But then it became its own thing. And actually, this one wasn't too bad. It had a very different style than the last two we've seen. Yeah, absolutely. Um I don't know what you know. I guess this is what, based off a manga. So this is more of a manga style? I don't know. You guys are the experts on enemy

spk_1:   1:30
not me? No, I'm like you did E. Yeah.

spk_2:   1:33
I mean, I think the whole goal was to get fans excited about this other art form and tight of movies that they might be able to get initiated. And I thought, Well, if such is the listeners didn't know enemy because we don't talk a lot about enemy. We haven't in the past discuss a lot of enemy on the show. Um, but it did make one fan. Ham P. I don't know if you guys saw this. We got a five star last week from a fan that was like, Oh, so glad you guys were talking about enemy this time. I like the director. He was talking about the director of New Just Scroll and Wicked City. And he said, Oh, yeah, you know, he did Highlander search for vengeance, which is another animal. He did like a segment of animate matrix. So we're touching some fanshearts with ease. Ah, as you said, naked movies. David, I don't I already forgot what you said,

spk_1:   2:20
but it was basically

spk_2:   2:21
basically Davidson live like he was upset that it started with a scantily clad individual. It was, but there actually was a plot. There was a plot. There was, like, a reason for it. They were, like, you know, prisoners with amnesia that crashed on Earth and didn't know why they were there. And then So the first thing they do with survivors as they go looking for food and clothing, which I think is pretty, um, probably accurate. Probably what somebody would do if they had Thio if they woke up and we're just there, and now we'll go to the 2nd 1st impression. Let's jump over to Adam and I'm first impression dead leaves. Go, brother.

spk_4:   2:53
Okay, so I thought this was kind of like a documentary of what's gonna happen towards the end of 2020.

spk_2:   2:59
Oh, my

spk_1:   2:59
God. Stop right there. Okay, But you know, the movie

spk_4:   3:09
doesn't really start until now and like to relate it to now until they get into the prison cell and the guy's, like, antsy. And he's, like, squirming around. I felt like a man that's like all of us right now squirming around. But this reminds me of Ah, hurry, curry. Have you f l c e o. And I think I found out that the guy that made this same guy that worked on that. So I was pretty excited about how quickly this thing move. This thing is, you know, there are get speed. Yeah. Yep. High octane. Not a whole lot of things like this. It's almost like the pace of a really fast music video throughout, even in the slow parts. But it works, and Ah, and I enjoyed it. I mean, whoa. How many bullets did they have?

spk_2:   3:57
They have an unlimited amount of bullets. This is that hyper intensive, like, zany like animation, where you you're the bullets are unlimited. And the violence is like, just tell her, but But I was gonna say Like, um, once Lee, there's, like, no time for expositions. Like you were saying that such a fast pace, like it is like a music video. But the exposition is literally laid over like the next action sequence, right? Like when it's talking about their backstory. But you're going through all these like rigmarole, you know, things that are happening in the prison. Um, but I'm going in the plot, so I've kind of breaking the first impression rule. So I need Nick's first impression, and then I can tell you what I thought when I saw it the first time.

spk_1:   4:42
This is a quote that I wrote these guys this weekend. When I first saw this, I said, Holy shit, this one is crazy. I feel like I just did 10 lines of coke while I was watching this. Like that literally is how I felt. This is so all over the place and just style. And just if you feel like you're like, I'm crack watching this deal I'm doing when you felt like that or

spk_4:   5:03
well, I feel like it would be amazing to watch this, like

spk_1:   5:06
in a cracker. Something way Should you crack and watch it again. Hello, round round. Two guys.

spk_2:   5:15
Yeah, well, basically ah, male and female wake up on earth and it's clearly like dystopian like everything is kind of broken down. It looks like a metropolis type city, you know, like a Superman comic. But then it gets pretty crazy, like within seconds. Like the guy says, Hey, you look like a panda bear. So he calls her Pandey. She looks at him and because his TV is like a TV set is essentially his head. Right. So, like, Oh, you're retro. You got a retro style screen for face, and then they're ejected after they go on a crime spree. Well, I would say like crime spree by necessity because they're trying to lock down food and food and clothing, right? So then they duke it out with the police after, like, a bank robbery, and then they get shot up to the moon to some maximum security space prison. And then all the prisoners were wrapped up in these little I know sleeping bags that were like straitjackets that they can't get out of on. All they do is they feed them, then they make them poop and then they throw them back in their cells. Um, there is some Randy nous because they decided to hook up, and so they break their jumpsuits and then they left the other prisoners out. And then it's like that. It's like a prison riot slash escape. But then there's used to prison guards six and seven. But in the in the script and also in like, the subtitles, it says 666 and 777 But in

spk_4:   6:30
one of the

spk_2:   6:30
audio dubbing is just like six and seven and Then you find out what, like Pandey was like the nanny of the prison warden when she was a child and rid of the story. So the warden is so warped that when her prison daddy dies, who was the previous ward? And she wants to grow this giant space bug to make the story riel. And somehow there was, like, a massive explosion of this dean, a workshop or something. And Pandey and retro of these manipulated prisoners that have what? I don't know, enhanced abilities, right? Like some of the other prisoners. Like the guy with this drill dick, which is, like the leaders, like the main supporting character, like he's all for it, right? I mean, he is extremely horny, but he does want to help out in every way shape possible. Sure. Yeah. Hey, Hooks up with the other prisoners were reminded me of, like, one flew over the cuckoo's nest. When he's talking about don't get yourself caught in the hallway. You know what I mean? Because the orderly is will attack you. And that's kind of like what this character was like. Then, um, they jump on a super training down to try to get to the space stocks to get on a spaceship to get out of there. And it's the whole movie because I think, Dave, what do you say last week that the movies, like, 53 minutes or something?

spk_4:   7:39
Something like that. It was very short.

spk_2:   7:40
It's under an hour.

spk_4:   7:41
He was like an episode of TV. Basically,

spk_1:   7:44
Yeah,

spk_2:   7:45
just like you almost feel like they You should have an animated short like this. Like the original. There's an enemy about a girl that kills vampires on like a Air Force base in World War Two.

spk_1:   7:56
Blood. The last Yeah,

spk_2:   7:57
Blood. The last fan parts of

spk_1:   7:58
that movie was gonna mention That s

spk_2:   8:01
o that movie runs out of money, right? Like that's a great enemy, but it runs out of money. So they have. They have a very tight thing just like this. Like they have these crazy animation cels, A lot of style, a lot of story crammed into a thing that's like less than an hour. So you wonder like, OK, are they literally just trying to use, like, the expediency of not having a lot of money to get the animation done and tell this whole massive story because this could be a movie. It could be feature length. I was thinking like I was even done like this could be a live action movie. Honestly, like they could adapt this for live action. And they already have the storyboards done. You could just take this anime be like, this happens. This happens, This happens. This happens, execute the movie. You know, of course, you probably couldn't. Some of this stuff is probably so over the top that look, it could only be as a cartoon like that's the value of cartoons, right? They can do things that you can't get away with. Like with censorship, right? I mean, you just you can't get away with it, right? I mean, my wrong, I mean

spk_1:   8:53
Oh, no, you're like

spk_4:   8:55
you could do it.

spk_2:   8:56
Yeah. So what are the things you guys watching right now? Look, I know a lot of streamers air releasing all this extra content. You don't mean to keep things going

spk_1:   9:03
there watching I just start watching crawl tonight. That's the way.

spk_2:   9:07
The one with the alligators. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I love Hurricane. And have you

spk_1:   9:12
guys. Yeah, it's pretty suspenseful so far. I'm

spk_2:   9:16
Dave, Have you seen it?

spk_4:   9:17
Yeah, I saw him in the theater, actually last year. Oh, wow. That's cool. Really good. Actually, it sze pretty solid.

spk_1:   9:24
Yeah, with the hurricane hit. Didn't get about to hit Florida. And this daughter comes to save her dad and the's alligators come in and start, start to get. Really? Yeah.

spk_2:   9:35
Wow. Have you seen it at him?

spk_4:   9:39
No, no, it sounds interesting. Yeah, it's pretty area like that. No, thanks.

spk_2:   9:43
Ah, man. Actually, my little brother was telling me that you're about to head. They have a tornado flash warning right now in South Carolina. Home. Apocalypse. But now you can't stay at home. You got to go to a shelter, right? You gotta get a tornado shelter. How's that gonna work? What else is there ever to watch him like? They added new episodes of the well. They'd added one episode of like, a Skype call for Saturday Night Live is like all the cast skyping and I

spk_1:   10:09
go. Oh, well, I want it actually wasn't that bad. Okay?

spk_2:   10:14
I watched the first couple sketches and I watched the introduction with Tom Hanks, and okay, what I've seen so far, it's It's horrible and and and I'm like, Oh, so they don't have the writers or the sets and they don't know what to do I gotta

spk_4:   10:29
understand, too, Like they even Tom Hanks said, Like it's like any any Saturday Night Live shows, some sketches, work, some don't

spk_2:   10:35
That was very real. That what he was like. It might be funny. Maybe not. You

spk_4:   10:40
know, like not everyone was great, But there's some highlights.

spk_1:   10:45
I thought the Zoom call was kind of funny.

spk_4:   10:47
Zim calls kind of funding. The thing with Michael are Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett like figuring out what to do because I had no idea turning it into a song was pretty great.

spk_2:   10:56
And you guys, you guys get a chance to share tow, Watch that Ninja Turtles animation that I shared. Yeah, that's yeah, that's my favorite part of episode is the animation for the middle aged Ninja Turtles. I think the song goes like Okay, uh, let's see. Um, they drive their kids to school. They used to be so cool. Now they shop at Whole Foods.

spk_4:   11:26
Tell you what, guys, if you want to see, we're talking about stuff we've been straining this weekend, If you want to see the best movie about a killer elevator, check it out on Shudder called the Lift. Oh, it's a possessed elevator movie. Where

spk_1:   11:43
from what year,

spk_4:   11:45
like 1985 or so, It's a German movie, but the version I watched was dubbed Oh, wow, it's pretty much origin of the genre. A great can see on a killer elevator way

spk_2:   12:06
know that there's a lift And yeah, they made devil like in 2006. Right

spk_4:   12:10
then there's three because there's also the shaft.

spk_2:   12:13
Oh, I didn't even know that. I did not know that. So the we could do it.

spk_1:   12:16
See? Oh, well, I think the shaft

spk_4:   12:19
is actually remake of the lift

spk_2:   12:22
on. Hey, Nick, you heard something about We gotta do a news correction because we shared news last week about comic con. But what did you hear the update

spk_1:   12:29
from yesterday? One of my friends said, I don't know if they have officially done yet, but they say they're preparing to shut down Comic con this year. Yeah, so it looks like it might be happening. Or it could have happened by the time you're you hear this man, it just it just means the

spk_4:   12:46
cause. Play has to be masks every week after you have a

spk_1:   12:49
master more than a little

spk_2:   12:52
danger or something. Ah, man. If you guys like since dead leaves was so ultra violent, I actually washed it down with the last blood Rambo movie.

spk_1:   13:02
It's supposed to be,

spk_4:   13:02
like, pretty, pretty bloody or pretty. I

spk_2:   13:07
mean, like, yeah, there's some definitely of Rambo Rambo. Like they double down on the Rambo stuff. But But I again Okay, here's the thing. My favorite is the original, and they did a couple things that tie into the original in terms of like the violence and the stuff he sets up. The Rambo is more like that Rambo than the other two Sequels, and the whole thing is like, But then he makes some mistakes that that I'm like, Oh, yeah, Rambo would kind of make that mistake because, actually, if we're talking about which one is more of a scholar or mildly intelligent, probably Rockies is actually smarter than Rambo is rambles like a machine, right? So, um, he makes a couple mistakes in this movie that I think could have ultimately, you know, helped out. But I don't want to give spoilers because I'm like, maybe I should make these guys watch all the Rambo movies, and then we'll do like a whole Rambo thing, E s O s. O. So, you know, we have, like, you know, stuff coming down the road. So maybe we'll carve out some time for the Rambo movies. But that's one of the things that I was watching to keep myself busy. Plus, I had to brush up on all the steam Cameron stuff because Nicky Tea and I scored an interview with Decameron, which

spk_1:   14:20
is coming up after the

spk_2:   14:21
break here. Folks stay tuned after these messages and we'll be back with the With Dean Cameron,

I'm just started rolling this thing.

spk_2:   15:36
Oh, yeah, I just started rolling the thing and we're back. So we're gonna try to get Dean Cameron on the line with us. We'll see how well that goes for a little interview with the DC himself. Dean Cameron,

spk_3:   15:46
if there was a group of kids like your character right in summer school, we'd be two of those kids, right? Is that you were kind of representative of all the of all the binge watchers, you know? I mean, you were, like, the first era of those, you know? I mean it. Now, if I know you've been on a ton of podcast interviews and and stuff like that, and they've asked you about all the movies, and I'm like, Oh, so all this tell Dean camp. We'll make this the most Dean Cameron interview of all time by asking you the same 10 questions that everybody has

spk_1:   16:12
asked you to be. Perfect. You get your

spk_5:   16:16
scar. How'd you get summer school?

spk_3:   16:20
Exactly. Uh, now is it true you learn to play the guitar to impress a girl?

spk_5:   16:27
Didn't everybody

spk_3:   16:29
Probably That's like, why I got into, like, drama school was just that, Like, Hey, instead of doing tricks on the monkey bars, it was like, Okay, now we gotta, like, act on stage and, like, they're listening to my jokes. How did that happen? You know?

spk_5:   16:41
Yeah. I think most of the world revolves around someone the trying to impress

spk_1:   16:50
impressively. That's how it is. I

spk_5:   16:54
I could make a career out of this, or I can't, but yeah,

spk_3:   16:56
the one show led to everything. What was that show in like? What do you mean by that?

spk_5:   17:02
Um well, if Zach actually started to shows that my first to Siri's 1st 1 is called Spencer, uh, with Chad Lowe, which was Rob Lowe's brother and who's now big director. That one and I had been with the smaller agency and that anyway, because of that show. I signed with his very big agency, called the William Morris Agency and then but fast times. When I did the apartment fast, I played Spicoli in fast times. The TV show Everyone in show biz was curious and piteous of the poor person who was going to places going on television and so that it put me on the map. It really put me on the map in Hollywood, and it ran for just long enough for me not to blow it and be OK in it. But Amy Heckerling, who directed the movie Fast Times in a bunch of the executive producer of the Siri's, directed one to the episodes. She was going to direct a movie the following summer called Summer School, and Carl Reiner also had a deal at Paramount, and Carl Reiner's movie fell through, and they offered him any script and summer school. So Amy was out of that. But while we were doing fast time, she was talking about this movie summer school that she was gonna do, and she kept talking to Patrick Dempsey and Wallace Langham, who were both in best time, saying, You guys would be great for these two guys chainsaw on Dave and I was going.

spk_1:   18:40
I think

spk_5:   18:41
I'd be great in a movie, too, because I don't move. But the writer Jeff Franklin knew of me because of fast times, and I had done its Everything's all connected, you know, And on a TV movie with more Carmen and Kirstie Alley and Patrick Laboratory of the Year before Fast Time before fast times called The Prince of Bel Air So more Carmen was aware of Major Franklin was aware of me when I went in, and I rare occasionally as an actor, you get a script and you go, Oh, this is my part. And, uh, when I read summer school is like this. This is my part. So and it was they didn't have being my part.

spk_1:   19:19
So it was meant for you for yeah,

spk_5:   19:21
yeah, I felt that way about other parts since then and have not gotten him. But occasionally, everything lines up. That's my long answer.

spk_1:   19:29
Hey, wait.

spk_3:   19:32
You know, uh, have you ever considered turning the Nigerian 4 19 scammer into a movie? Has anybody talked to making that is

spk_1:   19:38
just such a great idea?

spk_5:   19:40
Yeah, I, uh yes, and I wrote a script that's insane, that it operates on several different levels. There's all these different rallies, but coincidentally, Victor and I are going to do the Nigerian scam scam online. I'm thinking Friday

spk_1:   20:00
I

spk_5:   20:02
you know,

spk_1:   20:03
let us know if you get us a week,

spk_3:   20:05
we can send it out to our audience way

spk_5:   20:09
not on zoom on, see how it works. I don't know if it's gonna work, but, um, it should, But I have I have And I'm also finished editing. We shot the show. I've shot the show several times and

spk_1:   20:21
it

spk_5:   20:21
never really came out in a couple of years. We shot it and it's okay, Ultimate. I mean, I think it'd be best is an HBO special or something like that. But wait shouted at this theater and it looks okay and And so, uh, some point I'm gonna get off my butt and put that out.

spk_1:   20:38
It's such a great idea. I love it.

spk_5:   20:42
It's a really good show. I not really self congratulatory about a lot of things, but the Nigerian span scam is great.

spk_1:   20:51
I hope you do Friday because well, tune in

spk_3:   20:56
and well, the other thing is that you're full of brilliant ideas actually, like, actually remove it right into like your Yoki. What's the solution? Of course.

spk_1:   21:03
Yeah.

spk_5:   21:04
Uh, well, Koroki came from I am. I played in a band of real band with these guys who ended. Two of them ended up. I'm I being in steel Panther Vietor, Steel Panther.

spk_1:   21:19
Oh, yeah, yes.

spk_5:   21:20
So Russ and Darren, we were in this band called the Ducks and then it was called The Thorn Birds. We put a record out on that, but they had come Steel Panther come from this disco cover band explosion of the late nineties early two thousands of swept the nation. And so Daryn, the drummer, said we should come up with something. And what, like eighties karaoke, a band with 12 13 years ago and karaoke? He was actually Darren's that the name is Darrin's idea, but that was that. Something way did. And we started doing Onley eighties tunes and we dress up in eighties wigs. And the conceit was that we were the Cory's from the eighties and head because of past indiscretions. Had promised us an opening

spk_1:   22:09
slot on I never Yeah,

spk_5:   22:13
So what? Between songs, we talk about Michael Jackson and cry a little bit and stuff like that. So but then we did it so much We stop just doing 80 songs and started doing songs from the sixties and Katy Perry stuff, you know, karaoke song,

spk_3:   22:30
the involvement of writing the music for Rocky L. A. And that whole experience. Oh, yeah. Or where you're like, you guys want me to do the songs and perform them and be the lead. You don't even out of that old fall together,

spk_5:   22:43
Rocky. Ella, um you know, that was the first movie I carried and you know, is what you moved from Norman Oklahoma. And I moved to L. A to be a movie star, right? So can't be too picky when you know they're movies around. And so, Rocky, look came along and I didn't have to audition for it. Somehow been out, And I went in and met the director and cinematographer. We just talked about music, and I talked about cheap trick because I look cheap. Trick. And, um So after I booked the gig, you know, they knew I played music. And Jeff Levy, the producer, said, Can you come up with the sort of Bo Diddley thing for the end song and maybe Elvis Presley, because I think we're gonna have you turn into Elvis. Okay, I wrote the King. I had a little task. Camp four Track and I demoed The King is back. I really liked it. It's a good song. And then he said, What about a rap? For like, the story song like I'm So Bad With Names, this Siri's Pretty Prince of Bel Air like The Prince of Bel Air Song. And so, yeah, so I is my preparation for Oculus read Dracula. And so I based the Rap on Dracula and also got a William Safire reference in there, too, which is open, and Gillette says it's one of the coolest rhyming couplets he's ever heard. You can read the commentary by William Safire. He's the deejay arm, the vampire.

spk_3:   24:21
So you feel like you had, like, triple duty then because you didn't weren't just playing rock Yala, you were also playing Rocky allows reflection, slash, lack of consciousness and also also doing the music. You know

spk_5:   24:36
Well, I used to when we were doing, and I made this stupid joke that I was work got to work with my favorite actor? Uh, no, it was It was It was just the adventure. You get toe be a lead in a movie. Number 11 call. She was cool. Cool. Yeah, bring it Was at that point, it was Just bring it on. I'm ready

spk_3:   24:56
right now. Speaking of hard work, that brings us to minute work.

spk_1:   25:00
Oh, I love this one. Do you have any stories from this movie? Like anything that's not out there? Because I, uh oh, let me take a screenshot of that. Oh, that is beautiful. I love that.

spk_3:   25:21
What you just showed us folks was looked like, You know, it's a hat as pizza man pizza had a regular guy. He is not getting out of the car

spk_1:   25:32
coming here at the end of the movie. Yeah, he does. Is

spk_3:   25:35
at one point we can We can say there is. There is a debate or an argument to say yes by the end. He is heroic.

spk_1:   25:41
He says that the minute work

spk_3:   25:43
you have a little What is it? The top hat and you're holding the the You're one of the guy, The bad guy Be there at the end like Yeah, for the colored folks. They

spk_1:   25:54
got out of this.

spk_3:   25:55
They take down some corporate schmuck in this movie.

spk_1:   26:00
Well, that

spk_5:   26:01
this couple stories from that the 1st 1 is that all that end stuff was a reshoot.

spk_1:   26:09
Oh,

spk_5:   26:09
there's a whole other ending. I don't remember what the other ending was, but and I didn't test well or something, so they re shot it. And it was supposed to last a couple days, and I was at that point doing this show called Baghdad Cafe. It was a pilot TV series of Baghdad Cafe. And so I do that during the day and then go toe reach the reshoots at night at this landfill up sort of north of L. A. But it started raining. I was in

spk_1:   26:43
Ah,

spk_5:   26:44
just raining. So the reshoots lasted two weeks. And because I was so tired, there was a problem on Baghdad Cafe. I have been offered this part on Baguette Cafe. Is this the script? Said this tough, scary guy and I'm not a scary guy, but I'd work with the producers before I was like, Okay, well, they're hiring meteo. Anyway, I ended up getting fired from that because I didn't have time to call my agent ago. That director doesn't understand that this was an offer, and he's telling me to do it like the audition anyway, so I did. Um, And I my girlfriend at the time was moving out. It was all heart breaking. It was just a crazy time. But, uh so yeah, so we shot at this landfill for two weeks in the rain, and it was crazy just all night, these all night shoots. But Emilio and Charlie were the nicest guys you've ever

spk_1:   27:35
murdered. Just

spk_5:   27:37
really, really cool. And I was not prepared for that, cause I was sort of on the periphery of the time is called The Brat Pack in

spk_1:   27:43
the 18. Yeah,

spk_5:   27:44
and sort of sort of this jealousy of those guys. And I didn't like them because they were successful and I were much more successful, and I was, and the other story is I initially didn't want kept turning that part down. I went in and read for Emilio with him, and he was cracking up during the audition and they kept offering them. They offered me the part. It's like I don't want to work with that guy. He is an idiot.

spk_1:   28:12
Frat path? Yeah.

spk_5:   28:14
Order move. They called wisdom. That was horrible. This is gonna be a horrible movie. And I kept turning it down. So they kept offering me more and more money.

spk_1:   28:21
Start there, you

spk_5:   28:23
know, And and like, my name on the poster and a big trailer. And finally, I went to lunch with Andy Fleming, who had direct this movie called Bad Dreams. And I was saying, Yeah, I don't want to do this movie is like, What are you turning movies down for, you idiot?

spk_1:   28:36
Yeah,

spk_5:   28:37
Yeah, that's your You got a very good point. So I called it, but it was It was, but it was a great time. I'm glad I did it.

spk_1:   28:43
It's such a fun movie. I love that one. Yeah. Yeah, You brought up

spk_3:   28:47
bad dreams are just like I was gonna say, Like I wish you lived. I wish you survived that movie. You

spk_1:   28:53
know, there's a little twisted, but I was

spk_3:   28:54
hoping you'd stick it out to the final frame, you know, But, you know, there you go. But of course, of that much right? Is that right? You know

spk_5:   29:02
what?

spk_3:   29:02
You love war stuff.

spk_5:   29:04
Yeah, I was not a fan. Um, I thought it was sort of stupid. And then when I book summer school, I had a month before he started shooting. So I was trained in this very method, he sort of way. So I started renting horror films every day and watching one horror film a day.

spk_1:   29:20
Nice.

spk_5:   29:21
Um, and this is, But I mean, there weren't a lot of him on video at the time was 1986 5 80 sticks. And so it was hard to go get horror films on video. But I found this weird little video shop in Melrose came a fan of the genre.

spk_3:   29:38
We love war stuff, going from one school to the other. You're in summer school, right? Then you're in to ski school and and then but But the evolution of that gets all the

spk_1:   29:48
way all

spk_3:   29:49
the way to all the sudden.

spk_1:   29:50
Yes, that that was the best performance, By the way. I remember just being like, Oh, my gosh, what am I watching now? Like, I was just so excited when I saw what was happening on that show. I

spk_5:   30:00
was so excited when I they sent me that script and just offered that to me because that show is amazing.

spk_1:   30:07
It's the best show. It's the guy, are geniuses. And, yeah,

spk_5:   30:13
they cared that much and they were sort of making fun of it, but in a very loving, reverent way, I think I don't think that they weren't making fun of me. I think they're making

spk_1:   30:23
No, I

spk_3:   30:26
interpreted their friends. You know, I think they like Dean, Cameron and Dean cameras, movies and like they they obviously had a thing for sea school. They're like, Hey, let's let's bring it back Let's do something. I wonder if they wondered when they sent it out to you If you're gonna be responsive to it, if you're gonna be, you know, in for the game. You know,

spk_5:   30:42
the first, Ah, the first if I shot was up in Mammoth. And so I wondered into this this restaurant and they were all sitting at a table them and Danny DeVito and a couple of the writers. They're like Come, come have the drink with us. So I sat down, and what I learned was that they were a little worried that if I was still all there

spk_1:   31:07
so

spk_5:   31:08
they had because, you know. Yeah. Um, so they found some stuff that I've done online on YouTube with some people like Sam Levine and some other actors. And Charlie had actually sort of done this research. Like to see if I was insane or not. Like, it always happens online that you did were like, Okay, he's cool. We can get him, So

spk_1:   31:30
yeah.

spk_5:   31:31
Yeah, that was nice.

spk_3:   31:32
Did

spk_4:   31:33
they

spk_5:   31:33
Wouldn't. They were the nicest guys. And I was so thrilled to be a part of that they have.

spk_3:   31:39
Did you end up going out drinking with them? It'll there.

spk_5:   31:42
It's funny. It's funny. I stopped drinking in 1984 just cause I like I drank a lot in high school. And then when? No, no, I stepped in 82. Yeah. So I moved out in L. A. In 1980 81 80 81. I stopped. I'm sorry. 1980 when I stop drinking. So I just thought I can't keep doing this. So and I never went to a a And what I don't just like, uh, probably better off. And then, you know, I do all these movies where I'm this party guy and

spk_1:   32:11
yeah,

spk_5:   32:12
So I'm sitting in dinner with these guys and they're all having a beer, and Charlie says, Oh, you don't drink. I like now. No news. Why not? And I said, Well, I just never got around to it. And, uh, I stopped a long time ago and he said, Well, are you the program? Like not knowing the program? I just And he's looking at me like you. That's sort of dumb. Um, so on the flight back to L. A, Alaska Airlines had this craft beer promotion where they give you a craft beer. And I thought, you know, if I'm gonna I'm gonna have a beer. Then this is the best place to do it. Because if I freak out, they'll just strap me to the

spk_1:   32:57
myself on and rest. Yeah,

spk_5:   33:00
and escort me on that plane and I'll get a federal offense and that'll be the end of it. Drink a beer. Nothing happened. So much so that I like two days went by. And then I remembered and I told my wife I said, Oh, by the way, had a beer two days ago on the plane and she fell on the floor I started drinking again. So nice. Thanks for my

spk_1:   33:25
way. I also

spk_3:   33:32
hear that you're starting to become huge in Belgium.

spk_5:   33:35
Huge in Belgium.

spk_3:   33:36
Yeah. So we're in Scandinavia or something. Like, he started playing movies and in these other countries, and I was like,

spk_5:   33:42
Yeah, so I got Well, at least the ski movies I I got, um, the artwork for the Scandinavian versions and it like Dean Cameron. It's like the name is giant on the

spk_1:   33:57
box. So cool. Right? I

spk_3:   34:00
was thinking that I would be like, the lead in for, like, your HBO showtime, like your return toe like this. Like streaming cable, Dean Cameron show And then like, And then I saw you did a pilot presentation on your YouTube channel where you were, like, reading old fan mail, and then you tracked down one of your one of your fans.

spk_5:   34:19
Oh, that. Yeah, that wasn't really but, you

spk_1:   34:23
know, I don't

spk_3:   34:25
know, like pilot presidents, like you made it up like it's a thing you created, but I was like, That's such a good concept. If, like, you were in a show basically playing like a hyper real version of yourself, right? It

spk_5:   34:35
was called from corrupt cop

spk_3:   34:37
because I was like, Well, because Bateman got arrested development, right? And I was like, There's got to be theirs. There's definitely a way that Dean Cameron gets it because that's what we like to do a visual just, like create these. Ah, these shows like we pitch these ideas, right? We could come up with these things and I was like, Yeah, that would be cool if you sending Cameron to a place like Belgium, right? And then he's digging through his fan mail. He finds out he has a he has another kid who is, like completely the opposite of like we were talking to Nick. I was like, Yeah, the total millennial style was like, Let me ask him if he has a Skype, you If your son is like your polar opposite but wants to be enacted, it's like then you got this, like, whole thing. You know what I mean and the like, Yeah, I mean, I thought it would be cool like a Dean Cameron show, and it's like like a Netflix thing or something, You know, it's something like that. Yeah, you're

spk_5:   35:24
whats His faces years. Netflix is here is not

spk_3:   35:30
e got his email, but he doesn't really hasn't responded. E One day one day,

spk_5:   35:39
you sort of describe we we'd briefly years ago I on April Fool's Day I posted on Facebook. I'm off, too. Whistler to start shooting Ski school three.

spk_1:   35:52
Oh, my God. And

spk_5:   35:54
people went insane and

spk_1:   35:56
really

spk_5:   35:57
just put out. And there was, but the ski school three is happening. That it And then it was April fools.

spk_3:   36:04
But

spk_5:   36:04
wasn't that because of that? A year later, Chris, Uh, his name. Curtis, Who's the producer? Contact me like we pitched some ideas for actually doing ski school three. And one of them was about my son

spk_1:   36:18
on and

spk_5:   36:22
idea this friend of mine, David Driscoll, had This is really interesting concept because he lives up in in Silicon. He lived up in Silicon Valley and he said, You know, the the assholes now are all the smart guys s o the on These assholes go skiing, and it's horrible in anyway, so,

spk_1:   36:41
yeah,

spk_5:   36:42
it's sort of a twist on them

spk_1:   36:43
kind of lives they never have. Well, it would be a

spk_3:   36:46
vehicle project. It'd be cool if you were directing it, cause I know, like you slid into directing as well.

spk_5:   36:50
That was the idea, Director.

spk_3:   36:53
Yeah, that'd be really cool. Um, the other thing I guess we talk about is is it true that you were a fan of MW way? Because we know you ended up in straight outta Compton?

spk_5:   37:02
Yeah. So Oh, well, that was it. That there's some stuff on my Wikipedia. Like it says, That's the first album I ever bought, which is about all I ever. But it was actually the only rap album labor. But But on men at work, the N W a record had come out, Emilio and I, Amelia and I would do the raps to each other. And, um, I just forgot his name. Guy played the Vietnam vet.

spk_1:   37:28
Keep David. David? Yeah.

spk_5:   37:30
You know who's a Shakespearean Actors like looking at us like, What are you guys?

spk_3:   37:38
So, Dean, where can they find all your stuff? I know you have a great, great You have a great Web site, but I know you're new YouTube skits that are pretty funny.

spk_1:   37:45
Yeah, Those were way really funny. Cat.

spk_3:   37:49
One man like what to do with a cat after the accident. I think that was Thanks.

spk_5:   37:58
Yeah. You got a dean Cameron dot com or any Twitter. I'm Dean Cameron and the Dean Cameron on instagram and all that crap. Ah, but young YouTube. So Richard Horvitz, who was in summer school and he's the voice of every great cartoon character ever you and I a couple years ago started at this idea. What if we took classic jokes and made them into narrative short films? And so we started doing this thing called some kind of joke and, uh, where we take classic jokes. And anyway, we did the short film called The Bug based on this old joke that I directed. And Richard was in on a bunch of awards film festivals and led to me directing some other shorts. But during the lock down now we've been doing these jokes as just zoom calls to each other.

spk_1:   38:47
It's so great.

spk_5:   38:48
And so they're they're on YouTube slash some kind of joke if you want to see him. And I think they're quite funny and charming. And there are only a minute long so they don't waste your time.

spk_1:   38:58
They're very charming. Yeah, like I was, I was cracking up at all today? Yeah, something D'oh! You know, during this weird, crazy going to you. Yeah.

spk_3:   39:08
So, Dean, thanks for skyping in. And thanks for responding to my emails. I love having you on the show.

spk_1:   39:13
Yeah. Wait years. Camera D cameraman free freaking out. He's such a cool guy.

spk_3:   39:20
Yeah, it's really cool.

spk_1:   39:21
He really lives up to everything you had picture him to be.
