BUILDING A MIGHTY WORK FOR THE LORD -- NEHEMIAH 3:1-5
Mar 09, 2020

The emphasis of chapter 3 is the work of building. We should seek to grow and build for the glory of God, so more will hear the Gospel and be saved, and so more saved will faithfully serve God. We should NOT seek to grow just to have a "big organization." Remember the church at Jerusalem. Instead of going into all the world, they stayed at home together -- until God moved them through persecution. The Lord's churches today need a greater commitment to faithfulness by God's people. Sadly, there are "gaps" in our labor force. In Ezekiel 22:30 God said He wants people who will "stand in the gap." Last time we saw Nehemiah's vision. Now, it is going to become a reality. Many people skip over this chapter because it has so many names and sounds like the 'begat' chapters in Genesis. But it is a very important chapter. It is the most detailed description of the layout of old Jerusalem. It has intricate details about the placement of each wall and gate. Even archaeologists sometimes use this chapter as  a map to help them as they dig in the old city. The first 2 chapters have been all about preparing to do the work of God. Now the actual work will begin. Nehemiah was given an assignment from God. YOU should find out your assignment from God. You have a life and family to build, and a church in which to serve the Lord! Nehemiah could never have completed this great work so quickly without a lot of good help. That brings up a few thoughts from our text. When we set out to build for the Lord:

  I. THERE ARE REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE NECESSARY.
II.  THERE ARE RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE CAUTIONARY.
III.  THERE IS A REALIZATION THAT IS EXTRAORDINARY.
