Show Notes

If you’re out there and you’re wondering what online business to start to replace your income, I want to urge you to consider becoming a marketing consultant. Why? Because it’s one of the best businesses to start from scratch. There’s zero upfront capital needed, there’s almost no overhead, each client is worth a lot of money, you can work from anywhere, there are unlimited markets, and there’s no cap on your income.

You don’t need any formal education or credentials to get started in this business. After making business cards and other materials for a roofing company, I realized that all they really cared about was getting more leads and more sales. The more directly I could provide those things for them, the more I would get paid, the happier my client would be, and if I focused on those two things then I would actually have less work to do.

I did some research about three or four years ago and discovered that the best way to do it is with sales and marketing funnels. A funnel is a series of steps somebody goes through to go from a stranger to a paying customer. Some people think a funnel is a magical webpage, but it’s more about what you say in the funnel.

What we want to focus on are simple funnels; three-step funnels. Generally, this takes the form of clicking on an ad, being brought to a landing page, and being presented an offer. As a marketing consultant, your job is to set up these steps that a customer goes through. Building funnels is the best thing to offer because the businesses already need what you have to offer, it’s easy to justify your cost, and the return on investment for the business is obvious to the business.

The cool thing about selling funnels is that you can charge based on value, not hours. A roofing company pays a broker $2000 to bring them a sale whether it took them ten minutes or ten hours. What you make is not tied to how many hours you work, but the results that you produce.
