| About Madame Tingley’s Organ: Sisters Lex and Sandi Carroll grew up in San Diego in the early 1980s. Lex was drawn to the material, Sandi to the spiritual. The novel goes back and forth between their childhood and 1997, after Lex learns that her younger sister has led a commune in what appears to be a cult suicide. The story is set against a background of family involvement with various communes, including Lomaland, a Theosophical community that thrived in San Diego from the 1890s through World War Two. |
