Anniversary Spirits

Have you ever wondered why the spirits that we most often report are from the Victorian era?  It seems that the rise of spirtualism was also the rise of spritis.  Yet there are many ancient spirits that have seen seen for hundreds of years throughout the world, buttheir reasons for walking may not be as clear.

These are anniversary spirits.  Ghosts that rise and walk to commemorate an act or moment in time.  "Every 4th of July Benjamin Franklin is seen drinking beer.."  while this probably true, perhaps he is drinking wine every night and we only look on the 4th?

I always question anniversary ghosts or commemorative times because of all of the shenanigans of our calendar and clock.  I mean, if a person died in the 14th century on June 1 that just is NOT June 1st in our contemporary calendar..so..did the spirit make adjustments for the switch from the gregorian calendar to Julian?  If he died at 3 pm does he know and acknowledge daylight savings?  It just doesn't make sense to me.

What does make sense is that we pay attention when we think we are likely to experience something.  We follow a story and we make the events fit the story. It's not the worst thing in the world to do, but it does change the narrative.  It gives meaning to something - but is it the right meaning?

How many things just are?  How many experiences exist because it's the natural result of an action and not because of an emotional pulse behind it?

Is it the spirit or the story that brings the specter to life?  What moves it and keeps it coming back?  Our belief? the spirit itself?

Have you ever have an anniversary visit?  Someone who returns on a special day?  Do you think it is them or YOU who chooses that day?
