Welcome to adoring Winnefeld, your guide to explore it and shopping local. Here's Denelle.
Speaker 2:
0:18
Hello, and welcome to the adoring wind pay podcast. My name is Jenelle and I am the host and owner of adoring Winnipeg, a web based resource of local businesses within Winnipeg. On this podcast, I'll be interviewing Winnipeg business owners, getting an inside look at what they do and why they do it. On today's show, I'm welcoming Sarah from temple 23 so hello Sarah. Hi. Um, would you like to introduce yourself and just kind of explain what temple 23 is? Sure. Yeah. Uh, so, well, my name is Sarah [inaudible]. I'm the owner of temple 23, uh, Winnipeg. It's a actually a national company and a spiritual healing center and meditation space. We just opened in Winnipeg a year ago when I moved back from Toronto and I'm really happy to be here. Great. So can you talk to us a little bit more about what the different services are that you offer?
Speaker 2:
1:09
First and foremost, if anyone ever thinks of my business, I want them to think that this is a really accepting space for, for all the years that we've ever been open. It's really important for people to feel like they can be themselves and come in. We offer classes for meditation, a great for beginners if we find it. Most of our meditation classes are for beginners. And then from our more advanced classes, we offer classes for people to start to become in touch with their spirituality and develop that more. We also do one-on-one healings with clients for energy healing. And we have all different kinds of practitioners that work with us. Nice. So why did you start this? Oh Lord, I have a story there. I gather. Yeah, I mean, I I if you don't mind me sharing, I guess. No, go for it. That's why we're here.
Speaker 2:
1:54
Okay. Okay. Um, so why I started this business. I always knew that I was here to help people. I think that's the major thing. Um, and so when I was a little kid, I was, I was a real weirdo. I was my whole family where we really psychic and you know, we grew up at, it was a really weird household. We didn't talk about normal things and so I was kind of a loner in school and, um, I always was, you know, just doing the weird things, you know, talking to the trees or, you know, just being a weird kid. And my whole life I knew that there was such thing as magic and I didn't know if that's how you would explain it or describe it. You know, Harry Potter wasn't a thing when I was a kid. I just knew that, you know, there's something more to life.
Speaker 2:
2:35
You know, we grew up in a haunted house and so I, I, my, my childhood wasn't normal, you know, the, the, the paranormal was something that kind of lived right beside my existence. And so I was always really open to this. My, my father, he's very, uh, active in astral traveling. My mother's very psychic, so my whole childhood was very, uh, just different kinds of conversations and experiences. My life I think has always been the healer's path in that it's kind of been one Epic shit show after another. It does a ton of trauma and abuse and um, physical illness and mental illness. That took me on a road to having to heal myself both in a physical level, a mental level and emotional level, and eventually a spiritual level. I had to, um, I was constantly plagued with the question, you know, what is my purpose?
Speaker 2:
3:24
I was very successful very early. I've always run my own business and I made a lot of money, but I didn't, I still didn't feel like my soul was satisfied. I needed to do something that really helped people. Uh, and so it took me traveling all over the world. They volunteered all over the world and I eventually went to Israel and Egypt and it was super magical place. And when I came back, I found the mystery school and I started training and spirituality at a very advanced level. And I've done it for a very long time. And I opened temple 23 in Toronto five years ago and it's just been growing across the country ever since. Oh wow. So, so you started to build 23 in Toronto and then you expanded it across the country. Great question. So I, I, when I started my healing practice in Toronto with all the tools for the mystery school that I use, I built it across Canada.
Speaker 2:
4:13
Wow. Yeah. Then I finally found a space in Toronto to open and we opened a huge healing center in Liberty village. It was wonderful. I married a guy from Winnipeg, so I moved home last January and I opened a space here. So when a peg was home, then you just kind of came back when it picks a giant Slingshot, you know, we all think that we're going to leave and never come back. And then I've heard that a lot whipped back. Can we move back when? There you go. So it's been, it's been going good since you've been back in Winnipeg and laundering the city. I do. I love the people here. I think that's just the best thing about it all. That's, that's great to hear. I guess it comes down to then business wise, how, how do we go see you? How do we book a session classes?
Speaker 2:
4:54
How does all of that part work? Oh, you're not even going to take me out for dinner and drinks for us. You're just gonna go right to the right to the kill. Um, yeah. No. People can find us on at temple 23. Dot. CA. Yeah. We always offer free consultations if people want to come in and have tea and discuss what they're looking for. We know spiritual healing is something that is very personal for people and so it's really something that we want to discuss with people and make sure that they feel comfortable and if we don't feel like we can help them, we have a wonderful resource of people around the city that we will send them to. You had mentioned the spiritual healing was a little bit more advanced, like if you've, if you kind of know meditation and stuff. Can anybody like I, I'm still learning on the meditation thing.
Speaker 2:
5:36
I'm not very good at. Is that something I could just come in and go, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. We have. But we have all levels, so we have great, we have levels of healings and classes for people that are just beginning. And then we have more intermediate advanced classes for people that want to take it deeper. Yeah. Something, a little something for everybody. Everybody. Yeah. Oh yeah. Is there anything else like business wise that you kind of wanted to cover or you'd like to go into a little bit more of a personal, um, questions? Just, just some fun little quick questions to kind of get to know the person behind the business a little bit more. But if you have anything else I'm business specific you kind of want to throw in. Right now we are located at 62 Albert on the fifth floor.
Speaker 2:
6:17
It's not a drop in space, so it's by appointment only or if you've come to one of the classes. So that's really important. Absolutely. Email us at info at temple 23 dot. CA to either book something or even if you have a question or, yeah. So you're okay if we move into a few little questions kind of more just about you. Oh, you can ask me whatever you want. Okay. And so what motivates you to, whether it be in business or just in day to day? What, what kind of keeps you going? Good question. Well, I will go back to your first question because I mean, I don't know your audience, but uh, maybe this will be relatable to a number of people. So much of my life, whether you're doing spirituality, whether you're into personal growth, whether you're, you know, in business, any human being has to go through different levels of personal development and we will come up against difficult things that we have to personally deal with, whether it's internal or external.
Speaker 2:
7:12
Um, you know, our actions or our thoughts or patterns, our beliefs and we have to overcome difficult things and move out of difficult situations and, and move into something more positive. I'd reached a level in my life that I had something great. I was living in Toronto, I had a VA, I have, I still have a very successful business there. And I had to make a choice to move a business somewhere else, even though everything was going really, really great. You know, what is it that I want? Everyone's allowed to have their own thoughts and, and expressions of this. And maybe some people don't believe in spiritual at all. And that's great. I believe that all humans are spiritual in nature. And I believe that there is a part of us that's constantly longing for something more. Uh, I think sometimes our fear stop us from creating something more.
Speaker 2:
7:58
And I think I try my best to live my life to, to not listen to my fears and to move into something that's scary. And so when I moved to Winnipeg actually is because strictly on my intuition, my husband could have very well moved to Toronto and we could have had a really great life there. But something in me drew me back here because I think that my heart feels really settled here. I love the people. I love how everyone collaborates versus is in competition with one another. You know, we barely know each other and you invited me on this show and you're here trying to do something good for this city. And I just love that Winnipeg tries to do the best that it can. Awesome. Yeah, no, that's great. I love learning all of these, all of these things. I love when you share your stories like that.
Speaker 2:
8:41
I'm going back to the, the next question then. Um, something that, that motivates you. Good question. Okay. I, that's a good question. Uh, yeah. Try to hold back the tears, you know? Um, I really, really suffered in life. I really did. You know, God knows maybe I would have even been diagnosed as schizophrenic because my voice, the voice of my head, that was so, it was so terrible. It really put me down. It really tried to keep me down. And I think that I S I listened to especially what kills me when it's teenage girls. I, I, you know, a lot and a lot of moms refer me to their daughters and I hear just how, how much they listen to this negative voice in the head. And I, and I, because I've been there and because God knows if I can do it, anyone can do it.
Speaker 2:
9:27
What motivates me is, is, is almost listening to them. It's, and, and reminding myself every day that there's a million ways that people can, can get better. I feel really blessed that I have one way that someone can get better. And you know, it's kind of weird that suffering motivates me, but seeing the other people suffer when they don't need to really motivate me every day to get up and yeah. Yeah. That's a, that's a neat, not a neat, but it's a different perspective that the suffering motivates you, but it's just, it's because you are there to heal. That's your purpose. You've found your purpose and that's what it is. So helping these people is what motivates you essentially. Right. It's true. And you know, I think it's probably same if you're a mom. I think, you know, it could be tired as hell and sick and you know, but you know, your kids motivate you to get up, right?
Speaker 2:
10:12
Like your, maybe your kid's sick and all of a sudden you, your B, you being sick doesn't matter anymore. You're like, I got to get off cause my kid's sick and I gotta take care of my kid because my kid is sick and I get the most wonderful texts from all over the country, from people that are feeling better and you know, they're grateful and uh, you know, it's not me, it's just the services I provide, but it's all them. But it really is when I, when I meet people and I listened to them and I'm like, Oh my God, there's just, don't, people don't know that they have a choice to think or feel a different way. And I think that kills me. Yep. Yep. More than money. I need to have freedom in my own life, both in my thoughts and in my day to day life.
Speaker 2:
10:48
On that same wave then is there a particular person that motivates you at all or Oh, that inspires you. Sorry. Is there a particular person? Um, well my, my personal teacher and mentor inspires me. She serves all the people and she still is such a balanced woman, you know, to see, so thrive so much in your life and yet be so selfless. That always inspires me to constantly be better. My UMMA inspires me. This Icelandic strong woman and she always had the biggest heart and she was caring and compassionate and I aspire to be a percentage of how great she was. Well, I think you're doing great. I mean, I know we've just met that I have been following you on the social media and all that kind of stuff and I truly believe in what you're doing. So thank you. On the right on the right path. So do you have any big dreams, whether it be personal world, career, anything like that? Yeah, personally, a little diving a little deeper maybe. I don't know.
Speaker 2:
11:46
Well, personal, I am learning sign language. Oh nice. So that's a big personal goal for me. Yeah, that's a big deal for me. I like to offer a lot more services to that community cause I'm also hard of hearing professional. Well obviously I want to be the super duper famous and just tell all the people, all the things you know, and I want to take my business worldwide and I want to speak on big stages and I want to inspire people deeply. And I think that's my big personal goal. That's a great one to have. And I love the sign language just because it's something that I always kind of aspired to learn better. I know little basics, but I like learning languages is one of my nerdy things. So. Oh that's awesome. Well I mean, insight to me there you give me a platform to say this out loud.
Speaker 2:
12:31
So you know, I hope I don't offend anyone, but I just, it kills me that people think that being deaf is a disability because I mean you can teach sign language to babies. Yeah. And if all children knew how to sign, then you know, being deaf wouldn't be considered disability. It would just be what it is. Very true. It's just another language. That's all. It's so true. Yeah. Um, so we can end things on a little later. Just a, a fun question. Do you have a favorite food or favorite drink? Something like that? Oh, uh, lightened casual this time. Lighting casual. Well, we've done all the like deep thinking stuff, so we'll ended on something kind of like their little favorites of some kind. No, I really don't. I'm super lame. I like the of the vegetables and the kind of person that I love to try anything new and super weird.
Speaker 2:
13:14
If there's something new and weird, I'm going to try it. So if, if y'all haven't gone to the circle kitchen on cordon, it's a vegan restaurant. Uh, and um, I know that's so cliche being a spiritual person, vegan, but it just is what it is. And uh, she's got this like phytoplankton latte that I haven't tried yet that I really want to try. So it's supposed to taste like fruit loops. I might love it or hate it, but I really wanna try it. Well, there you go. No, that's fun. I like trying new things too because depending on what it is, honestly, I'm so lame. I like, I just, I'm so go, go, go every day. That is, someone could say, here, take this pill. It's all the nutrients you need for a day. I'd be like, yes, that and Slurpees and I'm good and Slurpees there's your Winnipeggers thing, right?
Speaker 2:
14:02
I know when I was in Toronto, the God guys, I need a Slurpee and I'm like, what the hell is a Slurpee? It's like, um, do you mind if I just share really quickly maybe some of the classes that we do just so people don't get an idea right here. I was actually going to, that was kind of my last little question, so yeah. Anything else that you want to say? Remind people of classes, how to find you, how to get in touch with you. Oh yes. I just got to give you guys a quick, just a quick run down of what you do. There's so many great spiritual teachers in the city. You know, where we just, we just ran into Rachel styles a few minutes ago and I know she does amazing thing. So I think that the more of us are sharing what we do, it's just better, you know?
Speaker 2:
14:39
So if you go to anyone, try anything, do anything. W some of the classes that we offer would be things like enhancing spiritual intuition, working with sacred geometry, how to create sacred in your home, working with astral, traveling, uh, channeling of energies, working with the four elements, you know, the WCA, the Kabbalah, and, and mostly my, my all time favorite of course, would be the empower. They subclass sex. That's the big one that we do. And that really helps to give people the tools to protect their energy builder energy fields, understand how the mind works, want to take control of their mind so the ego doesn't get the best of them. And then we have all kinds of different healings. And so the way to, to find all that information and either book or just ask questions, how do we find you? Go to the website yet, temple 23.
Speaker 2:
15:29
