1 John began changing my life when I was 14 years old and memorized 1 John 4:4, 'He that is in me is greater than he that is in the world.' Decades later, I began to meditate on 1 John 1:9, 'If we are confessing our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.'
All unrighteousness! That still blows me away.
So this Sunday, I'll present a basic outline for this book, some historical context and a thought or two on the author.
For those of you who like to prepare ahead of time, why not skim through this short letter and see how many famous sayings you can find? There's one that gets repeated countless times and I bet few people know it actually comes from John's first letter.
