In 1 John 2:18-27, John’s original audience were Christians who had grown anxious over whether they were actually saved. The Gnostics were saying sin is an illusion and the Jewish deity was in fact an evil demiurge. The universe was fatally flawed, and the only way out was special knowledge and connection with the right spiritual beings. John gives a three-part answer—can you see it? What is John saying?
