Show Notes

Welcome to the music of the monochord. The monochord is an acoustic stringed instrument inspired by Fabian Mamon ( five Element acupuncturist, musician and creative). The Monochord, sound box is  strung on both sides , oneside with 24 strings all playing the same note, this creates the drone and overtone on the opposite side is a pentatonic Koto tuned to the season in the same fundamental note as the drone.

The monochord music  is a tremendous aid to meditation and mindfulness. The overtones and the gentle repetition of  the drawing of the strings  brings the active mind back to the present moment, imperceptibly , incrementally and gently  to the focus of the Now. This spaciousness is calming and clarifying.

I suggest you sit comfortably and close your eyes but do not fall asleep, stay alert and awake yet calm and relaxed. Allow your mind to rest, truly rest. Do not follow your ideas, or your day dreams, do not make up stories or dualistic thoughts, rest you mind in the present moment listening, feeling, being. This is the essence of true mindfulness, true relaxation, giving true spaciousness of mind which is healing, invigorating and results in a deep sense of contentment and peace within you.

This monochord track was recorded early morning outside under a magnificent oak tree in the summer of 2018. Ailsa Mair Hughes, cellist extraordinaire, invited me to play and record this session with her, it is truly improvised with no plan or construct in mind before we began. The tape is a one cut recording with very little modification. You will hear the noises and sounds which joined us in the morning sunlight, in a truly mindful way just listen and be present with them, do not judge, analyse or comment just experience.

This is a looped 3 min section of the full recording. Please go to www.mindfulnessbath.co.uk for the full 30 min recording.

I wish you a gentle and happy listening
