welcome and good evening. And let's, uh, who take your breath? Hey, yes, let's just sort of kind of arrive on DH. Be present. So again, using these teachers, Teo, just that's a bit bright. 12. Let's, um, take a breath. Let's, uh, settle down. Congratulate ourselves for getting here as always, and maybe just closing the eyes for a moment and taking a breath, breathing in, breathing out, gently noticing, gently, being drawing the mind back into this moment. Just allow yourself to drop downs if you're gonna go to sleep. But then you stop yourself. You sort of duck your way back up again. You swoon back up and you keep that consciousness alive. And in this moment, So it was sort of allowing ourselves to drop away from the day from the Children or the must, the chutes that have to just allow ourselves to relax a Sioux. This evening I thought I would focus our minds on happiness and what is happiness and how do we achieve happiness. But there's a lot going on about happiness, questions and the happiest countries and nappies people, and my got feeling sense to me that when people are secure when people are having enough distractions are kept occupied all the time. Then they would say, I'm happy. I have earned enough money and have a house. I have a job, I have a family and everything is great. Everything will sort it out, all the expectations, all the aspirations of being taken. It's always worried me about happiness when happiness is dependent, meaning that the happiness is actually dependent on you, achieving those things you've set out in front of you. Those goals, those markers, there's milestones in front of you. And when that is the case, if you achieve them, you can feel very contented, very satisfying. I was always dependent on you reaching them. I think the time like now many people will be really rocked to the core because many of the things they assumed would carry on as usual or not. And there's this huge effort to bring us all back to being as usual as soon as possible. It's a very strange state of affairs because thie dependency on the future as being chattered. We don't know what's going to happen. Then there's the rial, what I call the rial core happiness, the one which comes from the heart. Heart happiness. I'm not talking about love, happiness. When you fall in love with somebody, that's the sort of partner one over there. For the moment, it's more you by yourself, you sitting in your room, you isolated, maybe alone on DH. Can you find a degree off happiness within myself? Is that possible? Or you only happy when you're on the phone on Zoom on What's app. Fulfilling your time with many, many things, for I really do think that this addiction to creating a life full off must shoot in half twos makes us dependent to be unhappy. And when that doesn't happen, we become unhappy. And then we can actually cascade catastrophe eyes and spiral down into even depression, low moods and feelings of consciousness. If, however, on the other hand, you could find a degree off in a satisfaction hall in a peace off tranquillity, we sometimes you find when you go out for a walk when you go out to the beach or the mountains or even the garden and you stop and you take a deep breath and just go, Oh, it's fantastic. I feel really good about that. That's really nice, then that happiness is generated from within you, even though when I say that it is a sort of a dependency on the environment being nice. So if you're actually in a non lice place, can you find that feeling of calm and happiness within yourself and guess where I'm going? I mean, this is all leading to the fact that if you can find a sense of inner peace in a calm gentleness that generates his own sense of its own feeling off a deeper happiness, it's almost as if happiness is always there within us. But we just have to allow it to come out. And when we allow that to come out, then we can go to it any time we like. In any situation we like, for its non independent is not dependent on the world being as we wanted to be. It's not dependent on achieving. It's not a dependent on people appreciating. It's not dependent on earning enough money. It's not dependent on feeling valued by others. All those of course, have value. But that's dependent. Happiness is dependent wellbeing when those are stripped away from you, when that's taken away, from you then you could feel very empty on DH. Very naked and very vulnerable. If, on the other hand, you have practised what we're doing tonight, what we do in the mornings off just sitting gently call me. Bring slowing down the prefrontal cortex slowing down that clever mind slowing down that grasping nature ofthe mind. Whores want to go forward that we come back when we breathe and we allow a space with practise we find. Actually, it's very nourishing. It could be deeply rewarding within us, so we can actually just breathe in and breathe out and feel good about it. And as it is a neural pathway as it is a habit, we will find out. Actually, the more we do it, the quicker and easier it is to find that in any situation, anyplace, anywhere, any time, because we carry with us, we allow, we notice, and then we blossom. So we're not dependent on things going well. We're not dependent on achieving. We're not dependent on the accolades of winning. We just allow ourselves to be on by focusing in the present moment by coming to the minds gym where we practise slowing down that clever mind that grasping mine that mind, which is always wanting to be fed with something new, something exciting, something pleasurable. I'm not saying anything against that. That's that's its final. So everything has its place. But it won't give you a sense of lost ing gentleness, almost a compassion of yourself on an empathy for others. And often we find this also, when things do go wrong, when life does hit the buffers, when the shit hits the fan, we actually notice that we have to dig deep your option. You can crack up four pieces or you put it together, or you distract yourself so much so with medication or whatever you're doing. And then they're not judging this. Please. It'll it'll keep you from focusing inwards because a lot of this stuff is deeply rooted on. My honest belief is that by going through it, going through the deep rooted nous, giving through the trials and tribulations, going through our past histories and waste of time, it won't heal anything. Yes, it's interesting to know, and it's good to have a concept off, and as human beings we want to understand, that's fine, But then you need to just shift it moving across. Okay, that's what's happening. It's like That's okay and then come back to finding that newness that brightness within you, that incredible power off being connected as a human being. So why don't know, just to tell life just to life, and you don't do it by trying you dont again. This is trying my must. You know, it's done in a gentle, spacious openness, and I think the first steps that's why I'm so passionate about these first steps is to learn to be present. To learn to notice your mind. I learned to learn to notice how your mind will take you away will set you off. We'll tell you a storey on DH in a non judgmental way. That's fine, but it won't bring you that depth off in a piece which were a ll searching for. I really believe that by sitting gently and quietly bye doing it on a regular basis, you learn to serve you, lord, to serve everything. The ups and the downs, the waves, the swells, the bad weather, the good weather, and in that sense, you empower yourself. You give yourself a tool with which to survive. True, he's alive when oil's falls away. I think in Christianity, the classic religions, they projected that out as a god or a personage. Something out that to you. I think it's the time now to turn around and say, No, it's always within you. It is the silence. Then it's the sacred nature or the silence within us. That's not emptiness. That's not a vacuum. It's a very full and rich silence is the silence of the chattering mind is the silence ofthe the grasping mind. So we just for sheep period time just dropping away. You'll come back. A boy will come back when past masters at it, We got years of practise. Don't worry. This this journey is banked up to that side rather than what I'm talking about, A shot of it out. But if you persevere enough, if you chip, awaited one analogy and once really in South Dallas, book was, It's like having a feather against a large stone, and you're trying to move the stone out of the room. I think what they sensei's around the stone to try and get through it any way. I'm very bad at remembering these lovely entered it having dunes. So happiness and my fingers. That's where it joins together, because mindfulness bridges the gap within our consciousness to allow us to be present, to love, to allow us to actually relax into whatever. Now we come to the gym and it's boring. It is not much fun, and you know, it's difficult to do it because the such nice of things to do because we get a hit of adrenaline or endorphins, whatever. We gotta do this down, so we have to practise it. But if we get that right, then is like a reservoir all within us during the day where when things don't go right when things aren't exciting. When things are challenging, when you are feeling not that good, you have that deeper reserve to draw on, not consciously, but is just there and you can drop back into it, take a breath and think we didn't think you lo It's kind of okay. Everything's all right on that, I think, is the trick to being happy because it's when we grasp onto the rejection, the failure, the disappointment or the achievement, the money, the praise. That's when we get problems. Problems because it's transitory. Nothing ever stays the same except the Hawk energy. The essence energy. That deepest sense of self is always with you. It doesn't change. It really doesn't is. You can allow it to come out. It's there forever. It's no dependent. Everything else is dependent. The irony in our world is everyone wants security predictability on the knowledge that everything is gonna be safe. Well, those are the three things you're not gonna get in life. There's no security, there's no predictability. And there's no safety. Everything's always changing. No one knew covered. 19 was coming. Nobody not like it is. Yeah, on DH. Everything's upside down on DH on small levels. That's always happy within us. So don't put away your belief in the external. I don't trust totally. We'll need a house we all needed. You'll need us to get something. We don't need it, but don't make it this. Think the cornerstone what you're doing. I haven't. But I realise what it is and work on the inner Communist only in here. So let's do some movement because movement is good. So I invite you to stand up and invite you to soon your owns around. I am incredibly boring. I do the same thing over again. Why is that? Because the only way to get this rock out of my road thiss this obstruction off his clever mind. This judgmental line this grasping mind I have which is always dogging me and dumped me for the last 64 years is really is too now repeatedly l a new neural pathway repeatedly using that feather to move out of the way to find a new way around it.
