"Fox Hole" faith is not often a deep faith, but it is an entry point that is better than only looking for miracles. Jesus' comment about a generation who needs to see miracles to believe, isn't aimed however, at the official with the dying son. It is aimed at those of Galilee, who only welcome him because of signs. A person who "only" looks for what Jesus can do will not end up in faith, but a person who sees God at work and then becomes desperate for him will.

So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that’s coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy. [1 Peter 1:13-16]
