Many questions may arise at the beginning of the gospel of Mark: Who is this Jesus? Why does Jesus get baptized by John? Why is the Father pleased with Jesus? Jesus comes to be baptized by his cousin, John. We see the Spirit coming down upon him, and we hear the Father approving Jesus, calling him his beloved son. Though people will mock him, abandon Him, and eventually kill Him, Jesus' identity is secure in his Father. His life involved his Father's purpose before him and the Spirit like a wind at his back. Do you know that the Father approves of you? Do you know the Spirit is available for you?
