This week Simon talks about what his mother means to him and sings a snippet of a brand new song 'Pay It Forward', where one of his song children make an unexpected and cute interruption that he is compelled not to edit out.

Speaker 1:

I'm Simon Shapiro and this is sing out, speak out here. I gave you the philosophies, ideas and songs I've been working on for many years, but until now have shared just too few of because I've been afraid of you. And worse, I've been afraid of me, but my will to connect with you and share the best of me has grown greater than any fear. And that's why I am compelled to sing out. Speak out.

Speaker 2:

It's crucial. The Zen front door. Hi everyone. Welcome to this mother's day special for 2020. I can't think of any word more to than special one. I think about mothers and like a lot of people when I hear that word mother, when I think about what it means, that is largely dictated by my own mother and who she is. For me, I feel very lucky that at the age of 82, she is still with us and she's so active in mind and body. Uh, and that's an inspiration now. But she's always been an inspiration. And I think one thing I know about the great mothers that I know from friends I have in other people, the thing that they tend to have in common is that the very giving people, uh, the thing that my mother stands out for me mostly is that she always wants the best. She wants the best for her children. She sees the best in her children, um, and also in other people. And that's something that I, that is passed down to us and I'm so grateful for. And aside from those things that probably most mothers share, I think all mothers are different in their own specific ways, of course. And my mother, she's always encouraged creativity and individuality and a growth mindset over, you know, conformity and stagnation. And you know, again, another powerful tool in the toolkit of her children. And it looked, the thing about mothers is it's virtually impossible in this lifetime to repay the my mother. And probably you feel the same for what they've done, what they do for us and we'll continue to do. And no, I have my own children. I can honestly see, I would never expect my children to pay me back for anything. And what I try and do is simply pay it forward. And because that's what my mother did, she paid forward the love and the belief in herself that was given to her by particularly her father. And I'm lucky enough to have two parents who both have given me a lot of positive things in my life. And so my goal today on mother's day is because I can't be with my mother due to social distancing. But I know that she's always around in the things that I do and the choices that I make, the good choices. That is when I make good choices, when I feel like I'm being highest self, very often I think that's what my mother would do. That's what my mother would say. That's what my father would do or say. And I know that comes from before that, from their parents as well, and lessons that they learned along the line. And so this is gift that's never ending, uh, what mothers do for their children because they teach us these amazing skills that we can then pass on. And so that's what I'm doing. I sitting out big love to all of the beautiful moms out there, particularly to my mom. Leone. Love you so much. I've written a special little song, not a whole song. The whole song will be done soon, but I'm just going to play a little bit of it and I hope you like it. It's called pay it forward and have a great week. I'll be back next week with a new show. See you then. Okay, so this is just the first little bit. It's the chorus, I think of a brand new song. Cool. Pay it forward.

Speaker 3:

[inaudible] I'm on my way to peg.[inaudible] well, them, they hear my voice, but this is, I'm sending it, pass him down. This isn't good.[inaudible]

Speaker 4:

is that like,

Speaker 3:

so when the time comes[inaudible] they'll say

Speaker 2:

Speaker 3:

[inaudible]

Speaker 4:

Speaker 4:

and so I messed up some of the words due to that beautiful interruption. But, uh, I think that's the way it was meant to be. So I'm not going to redo it. I will finish the song though and record the song and send that to my mama and put it out into the world. I hope you're all fantastic.
