Best of M/S: Trumping Trump on Immigration
Show Notes

During our first season we had a show about Donald Trump's ignorance about immigration and scapegoating Latin-American migrants. The issue goes back to what Pat Buchanan in his book “State of Emergency: The Third World Invasion and the Conquest of America” claims. Just like him presidential candidate Donald Trump feels that an invading army of felons will posses North America in the next decades, especially with the rise of immigrant population. We not only question this paranoia but also the ongoing racial bias that claims that by 2050 there will be 102 million Hispanics in the U.S. (Corzo, 2006).
Just like Buchanan, he also stereotypes undocumented immigrants as uneducated, uncultured social terrorists. Him and other social commentators, fear that terrorists and illegal immigrants will work together to destroy this country (Buchannan, 2006).
We also discussed the humanitarian factors that affect immigrants, such as how many of them die trying to cross the border. In 2006 the number of deaths had grown to 3000 as immigrants going through the dessert have died of exhaustion, thirst or were overtaken by the elements (Thornburg Article, 2006)
