Show Notes

The Arkansas River in Oklahoma and Arkansas is well out of its banks and thousands of people have been displaced by historic flooding.

A half mile from me in three directions, homes are underwater.

An entire region was virtually landlocked overnight when the Arkansas Department of Transportation shut down all but one bridge across the Arkansas River.

Thankfully, those bridges have been inspected and re-opened - at least for now.

The river is expected to crest in hours - not days. But we are expecting heavy rains and the potential for tornadoes in the area.

This morning, my friend Chris Benjamin - preacher at the West-Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith - called to check on me.

I hung up on him.

Not because I was mad, but because I wanted ALL OF US to be able to hear the conversation.

So I called him back and hit the record button.

It's a full hour and then some. We talked about:

  • The preacher who walked into a local bar to offer his church's assistance in flood preparations
  • The luxury of the assumption of safety
  • Loving our neighbors
  • Feelings versus facts
  • Listening to the wisdom of our tribes
  • The value of a HEART Check in trying times
