High Reliability, The Healthcare Facilities Management Podcast

An Unlikely Journey: "It was not exactly on purpose"

Peter Season 2 Episode 15

High Reliability, The Healthcare FM Podcast is brought to you by Gosselin/Martin Associates. Our show discusses the issues, challenges, and opportunities within the Facilities Management (FM) function.

Today we welcome Thomas Elliott to the High Reliability podcast. Tom is the Director of Facilities Management at the Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, CA. Tom is an Air Force Veteran with a varied career path, including stints overseas and in Biomedical leadership.

In between discussions of road rage and pace cars, we find time to discuss Tom's unique career path, including:

  • Hitting the road(s), literally, and finding direction;
  • Transitions from military to civilian leadership, and not "chickening out" (15:00);
  • On the importance of effective change management (29:30);
  • Relationships are built over food and faces (41:30);
  • Education, language barriers,  and the FM professional (54:30).

A show note, Tom sounds great, me not so much. I tried out a new microphone, and subsequently, I sound a bit mumbled but understandable. Sorry for the rookie mistake on my part, it won't happen again!
