The Road To Better

Sometimes deciding on the “best way forward” can be confusing and often too full of reasonable choices. Taking a slow, cautious approach ay at times seem like the right path to take instead of a “quick and easy” option. Likewise, the costs involved in progress and growth may be difficult to accept… however selecting a low-cost opportunity may result in the “you only get what you pay for” reality. 

This month’s Inspiring Innovations LEARNING MOMENT: “The Road To Better” recommends taking a “refresh yourself” time in determining the best way forward. Whether The Road To Better action is about your world of work or on your homefront, selecting a simple and specific path and journey most times is the best approach.

Hello again, and welcome to the April 2026 Inspiring Innovations Learning Moments podcast. This is your regular host, discussionist, Marv Pickla. And as we all wait for maybe that, and maybe not so patiently, for the more warmth and sun of the spring season, I guess I found it a little bit more challenging these days to find that great topic because, you know, across the country and across job sectors and and even neighborhoods, it's tough to find, you know, the right inspirational piece message to take and use in this learning moment's time. Past 30 days, the past 30 days, I've thought about and observed potential clues for the best learning moment topic, but I found myself professionally confused. Yeah, I'm saying it, professionally confused to think about leadership and communication and innovation and maybe some form of growing up lesson that I could creatively share this month. But strangely, I have to admit that no specific message topic stood up higher and stronger in my mind. Then almost at that point when I was sitting there thinking, I really don't have a whole lot more to say, four words that I had written in my notes almost seemed to have a special highlight on the page. And those four words find the road to better. Find the road to better. So this month, although this message pulls at my belief that it's it's kind of pure common sense, and it's always a natural thing to improve your position in the worlds of life and work, taking the time maybe to refresh yourself and your journey and find the road to better just seems like an ideal topic for everybody for this new spring season as a point of progress. So here we go. First, how about if we start out by trying to describe and identify what category that you would best select as your road to better? Okay? Would it be about relationships, spending money, job changes or improvements, maybe less screen time, or maybe understanding better what's on that computer screen? As an example, in my career, I found that it is one of the biggest, toughest things for a company or an organization to do to find out what specifically they want to do to be better. And and just think about it. Some companies have said, hey, I want a quicker, faster, smarter workforce. Okay? And in so many ways, that really doesn't tell me anything, rather than maybe confuse the issue. So as you think about finding your road to be better, start by trying to be simple and specific as you begin your journey. I guess I believe it's important that as you apply common sense and simplicity to your road to be better, it's almost logical to think about time and money needed, both should be given special consideration as you consider your road to better. Think about it, if, for example, is better a formal education advancement? And will you have enough time and money to complete it? Or if you believe better will require a major job change, will your life, family balance support that adjustment? Or if your road to better calls for like a physical move from one area to another? Is better really gonna be the end result? Seldom does anyone's road to better apply and affect only themselves or one person. Therefore, you gotta be sure to apply your thoughts about road to better, considerations that include, you know, the other people in your world, and that they would be willing and able to go down the same road with you. Next, on your road to be better, consider the impacts that you're better will have on job performance, on maybe contributing to a better, friendlier community culture, or maybe help in both life and work efficiency, saving money, or making sure that you are getting the best bang for your time and energy? Try to identify early on the positive impacts that will be achieved as a result of your road to be better, and the direct personal areas that impacts that will be felt as you go down that road. Hey, are you are you getting the understanding and feeling of the high value of selecting the road to better and why that's be timely with this spring season? Well, another consideration you want to look for when you're looking at the road to be better, consider who will care the most if you're successful, and and why this issue is needing to be better right now. All of that's important. So finally, I would suggest that if all possible, to maybe look around and see if you can find others that have taken the same road to be better and similar to the one you're thinking about. And if you find someone, don't be afraid to talk to them and get the pros and cons of their path and determine, try and determine if their road to better is right for you. Or if maybe you need to make a few adjustments just to make it a better fit for you. Because remember, no two people and circumstances are ever going to be the same. And that a perfect road to better does really not exist. Perfection doesn't exist even on the road to be better. So if better is achieved, just being better is achieved, you're a winner. Okay, and also I can't leave out the road to be better topic without suggesting that if all possible, have the road you choose to be special, unique in some way, and then be positive, progressive, and an example of growth to others, so that they could pick up on your example and maybe go on a better road themselves in the future. We need more positive, progressive life and work examples right now, and so try hard to pick the right road. Well, as always, I have used up, you know, my standard learning moments time. But with this discussion of the road to be better, you know, make sure that you even consider that it has a timeless application purpose. You can use it any time, today and tomorrow. So in closing, I please want you to remember, don't pick a road to the to be better that is too big or too complex. Size and simplicity really does matter in this situation. Number two, make time a major road to be better consideration. And maybe, just maybe, in this situation, instant gratification, that kind of model may be best. And third, that if you are satisfied with your current road to just maintain, remember that change is going to follow you and it's gonna happen. And it's gonna be happening to you and around you every day. So maybe, just maybe, if you choose your road to be better, that's better than someone picking it for you.
