This month’s Inspiring Innovations LEARNING MOMENTS Podcast was easy to put together and fun to share! A great friend reminded me that Being Somebody’s HERO!... “just requires a little common sense and doing what’s right.”
In the podcast I try to stress that EVERYONE at some point in time has the opportunity to be a HERO. Fortunately I was even able to share a cool line-up of recent local event HERO examples to make clear how often easy and appropriate it can be.
Take your time to listen and consider the “TIMELESS” value the content of this podcast can have.
Enjoy the listen and consider Being Somebody’s HERO today!

Hello again, and welcome to the July 2026 Inspiring Innovations Learning Moments Podcast. As always, this is your discussionist host, Marv Pickla, and it's great to be able to take some time, some fun thoughts and ideas, and share them with you for this midsummer podcast. And as I considered different topics that would be important, I think, to talk about this month, it's hard not to be pulled in that leadership direction. You know what I mean? With the country celebrating that 250-year anniversary of being in existence and all the good things that have come around because of the leadership that's happened, and a lot of the uh reminders of the historic events and remembrances that have been shared about some great things that have happened in this country. So it's almost a necessity to look at the component of leadership as a vital discussionist topic, and then maybe, just maybe, push everybody to professionally and personally move forward in this area, especially at this time. So there you have leadership will be the topic, but we're gonna scale it back and pick a little component of that. Are you ready? Let's get started. This month, we're gonna talk about being somebody's hero. Yep. Simply put, we're going to cover a number of different aspects of the importance by leading and being someone's hero. First, I want to point out that in your lifetime, everyone, yep, I said everyone, will be placed in an opportunity for being somebody's hero. You may not think about it as a situation that's hero-like, but I'm gonna tell you, bottom line, the opportunity is exactly where you will be placed in being somebody's hero. Just think about it. Something as simple as picking up a piece of trash in a public park. Somebody with you might say, hey, that's why the park has maintenance people, right? But to others, young and old, you are considered a hero for just doing the right thing, the helpful thing. You know what I mean? Next, consider any number of workplace hero options. What if in the in the break room, the lunch area, and it was a complete mess and for ten minutes you decided this place needs a pickup job and at least make it look a little better? Do you think about that as a hero example that you just did? Do you think company owners and other company leaders wouldn't recognize that as a hero option? And who you then had gone that extra mile without being told just for the benefit of others? Do you think others may want to replicate those kind of hero actions, your actions, and be looked upon as a hero too? I think you bet. Another area, special example, was this last week, our group at the area's community college sponsored the first ever what we called Imagine Me Youth Entrepreneurship Fest, and that's the first time it's ever been tried in northern Michigan. And based on all reviews, the event was really a great success. However, for me, the greatest takeaways from this one-day event was that everybody participating was somebody's hero. What do I mean? First, and these aren't in any particular order, but first, the donors, by donating their money from all over the place, covered all the costs for the whole day. Heroes. Next, the young people, the young people, ten to seventeen, having their own marketplace booths and selling their unique items. Heroes. The local businesses and community leaders who help teach the mini learning sessions on starting your own business. Just short-term ones, but all fun ones about starting your own business. Heroes. And the local radio station who agreed to do remote broadcast on the event, right out in the front steps of the building. And they made sure they interviewed every young entrepreneur that had a booth. Heroes. And then there was a small band that played excellent music, country music, you know, blues kind of music, for three hours for free in support of the event. Heroes. And finally the roving mentors that helped answer questions of the different people and young people that were there that had questions about starting your own business, money, marketing, all those kinds of things. The event organizers, and then the backup support personnel that made sure every table and chair was in the right spot and all the supplies that were needed right there to make everyone involved feel special. Heroes. These examples are true experiences that let you know that there's such diversity that can be applied when thinking about being someone's hero. Okay. So for this month's message, being someone's hero, this inspiring innovations learning learning moments podcast is number one, to let you know that in almost every leadership situation, someone is watching. Okay, and someone's watching. And every leadership moment that is critical, that you think before you act, and decide if your actions will be considered to someone, that you're a hero, or would it be something else? Number two, that age doesn't matter when being someone's hero. Doing the right thing, doing it the right way and the right time. It can be exemplified at age five or at age one hundred and five. So make the right decision and be somebody's hero. And three, finally, always remember that being recognized as someone's hero may not be in that immediate gratification zone or occurrence area. Instead, it may take time for it to be realized as a hero action. And maybe, maybe before you get to be someone's hero, it'll take a year or whatever. It doesn't matter. It will happen and it will be appreciated and recognized. And that's okay. So be it. Well, guess what? Our inspiring innovations, learning moments, time is long gone again. But please share this important being someone's hero message with others. Why? Because I believe this one again has that timeless value for all any time. Thanks so much for listening this month, and we will continue our discuss discussions next month.
