Play to Win

Steve Season 2 Episode 170

Too many of us approach life with the philosophy of "play not to lose".
Once, when I was in college, I was able to play on a intramural basketball team. Our team made it all the way to championship game. At half time, we were losing that game so badly that we decided to change our approach.
Instead of playing safe, we were going to play without any fear.
Amazingly, we came all the way back and even won the game at the buzzer.

But playing not-to-lose takes away your power.
Playing not-to-lose means playing safe.
And ironically, when you play that way, ironically, you often lose anyway.

The college prep equivalent is making all your decisions through the filter of "what is most impressive to an admissions officer"?

Listen in to learn why that is the wrong question to answer, and what you can do instead to play to win.
