The Messiah: The Son of God
Scripture: Luke 1:35 (NASB)
“…the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.”
When we look at Jesus, we see God—His compassion, His power, His grace, His truth. Everything the Father is, Jesus reveals. He is not a distant reflection of God, nor simply a messenger of God — He is God made visible, God made touchable, God made near.
And yet, the wonder of Advent is that the One who holds the universe chose the confines of a cradle. The One who spoke galaxies into existence chose the language of an infant’s cry. The eternal Son stepped into time, into frailty, into the limitations of human life — not to impress us, but to save us; not to overwhelm us, but to invite us near.
As the Son of God, Jesus shows us what God is really like:
A God who draws close.
A God who listens.
A God who heals.
A God who loves without measure.
Some of our perceptions about God are marred and muddied — clouded by our stories, our struggles, or the storms we’ve walked through. But when we look at Jesus, clarity begins to dawn. His patience reveals the Father’s gentleness; His mercy unveils the Father’s heart; His tears show the Father weeping with us; and His cross displays the Father’s love, poured out in a way no heart could ever mistake.
And in His resurrection, we see the Father’s power to restore all things.
If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
If you want to know how God feels about you, listen to Jesus.
If you want to know how far God will go to save you, follow Jesus to the manger… and then to the cross.
The Son of God came so that we might become children of God — welcomed, forgiven, embraced, and made new.
