The ABCs of being a positive warrior today, the letter C

I can is more important than IQ

On a crisp November 6, 1986 amidst the towering skyscrapers of New York City, Bob Ireland, forever etched his name into the New York City marathons tale. He was the final finisher, placing 19,400 in 13th place for days, two hours and 48 minutes 17 seconds. He was also the first person to run a marathon with his arms instead of his legs. Come on now. Bob was a 40 year old Californian whose legs were blown off in Vietnam 17 years prior.  In 1986, he recorded the slowest time in the marathon's history. When he was asked why he ran the race, he listed a few reasons but finished with saying success is not based on where you start, it's where you finish.

I can is more important than IQ.

Today could be the beginning of the most epic story you could ever tell. When your grandchildren read the story of you, this chapter is going to be something special.  You have something special in you.  You just need to wake it. Do it today, because it is your birthright to be excellent.  Do it today, because you can.

When you pump the brakes on showing up for you, for your dreams, for your aspirations, for the best version of you, what’s holding you back?  Is it fear?  You’ve got to stop living in the past. You can't unscramble eggs, let it go!  There's nothing wrong with you having fear, there is something wrong with fear having you and what happens is it paralyzes you.  It's time for you to share your gift to the world. How long are you gonna leave your gifts wrapped up? There are people out there that need you.

I can is more important than IQ.

The next “C” I encourage you to dial in today is Comment.  As in the comment box.

The comment box is not generally filled with accolades.  It's often filled with negativity, vibes, vents, rants….How often do we think to leave a positive comment in the box?  In the evaluation?  In the review?  In the description of a teammate behind their back?  How often do we put ourselves in others' shoes and think, I’m going to help somebody today, feel like a million bucks.  I’m going to light up a smile on someone's face today and let them know they’re fantastic?

I challenge you today to do one or more of the following.

  1. Catch someone doing good.  Catch them and let them know you caught them.  Point out that random act of kindness.  Point out the helpful hint they offered.  Point out their positivity.  Point out whatever it is that was good.  You’ll feel good, they’ll feel great.  Consequently, they’ll repeat the behavior and so will you!  We don't forget what we feel.
  2. How open minded would you be to taking two minutes out of your day, two minutes, and writing a three sentence thank you note or positive note to a teammate?  To someone you spend the day with?  How open minded would you be to showing gratitude to another?
  3. Could it be possible you send a 25 second positive voice text today?  Could you squeeze in 25 seconds, you’ve got 24 hours in a day, could you squeeze in 25 seconds to let someone know they’re awesome, that you’re thankful for them?  It takes no special ability to be kind, I think you have it in the tank!

One last C…………..just want to squeeze it in here.  There are two types of class.  First class and no class.  What will it be for you today?  You don’t get to ride the fence.  There is no gray area.  There is no “kind of” classy.  There is no sometimes.  A winner, a champion, a person who makes a room better simply because they’re in it, believes this is non-negotiable.  You’re either first class or no class.

What happens tomorrow is determined today's actions.  Not yesterday, today.

Are you like most people and fall into the trap of overestimating tomorrow?  Do you underestimate today?  Do you allow yesterday to take you hostage?  Don’t allow it to happen.  You’ve got phenomenal in your blood,  in your veins, running inside you right now, ready to go.

Today, take on the identity of a person who believes they can, believes in the power of positivity and believes in a first class or bust mentality.

I’m rooting for you!  Make it a great day.
