S10E4 - When Energy Becomes Currency: From Burnout to Rebrand & Finding Your Audience!!

TSWP Season 10 Episode 4

The most honest creative choice isn’t shipping another episode, it’s pressing pause long enough to design a better return. From a buzzing hallway at Podcast Movement in Dallas, we open the notebook on rebranding a personality-led show, reframing “loyalty is everything” into “loyalty in everything,” and admitting that energy is a real currency that needs a budget.

We trace how breaks happen... burnout, life, grief and why a clear season ending, a simple plan, and transparent updates can save trust and even grow a stronger audience when you come back.

We get practical about medium choices: why audio can rebuild intimacy and consistency, and how short video clips amplify reach without crushing your bandwidth. There’s a deep dive into brand iteration too... moving from a £50 starter logo to a human-centered mark that finally matches the host’s voice, plus the uncomfortable magic of constructive critique. Along the way, we revisit the messy origins: depression, breakup, too much drinking, and a late-night Twitter vent that sparked a podcast. The arc doesn’t stop at personal healing; it expands into community teaching youth to podcast with just a phone, building entrepreneurship skills, and creating a safe, creative space where loyalty shows up as action.

You’ll hear tangible advice for getting unstuck (micro-commitments over perfection), how to communicate pauses and returns, and smart ways to track what actually converts using a link-in-bio tool. We also share a heartfelt farewell to season ten, plus invites: a free-pass weekend at Becoming Lovefest in Atlanta and the details to connect with Loyalty in Everything and Wrap Shit with P. If you’ve been waiting for permission to pivot, consider this your green light.

If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who’s stuck, and leave a review on Apple or Spotify—your words help the right people find this conversation.

SPEAKER_02

My my bad, but y you've been coming lately a lot, like this come what okay, but um I'm I'm coming.

SPEAKER_01

I'm coming everywhere, okay? I'm coming to your city.

SPEAKER_02

So um hi chick talkers. Welcome to talking with me. And I'm y'all to follow the chip talker.

SPEAKER_00

Tit talking, always talking, tick talkers come on in. Tick tock is always talking, toppy stick with paint.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, don't we all like talking shit anyway? Talk to you with it, the podcast movement.

SPEAKER_00

Top stick with paint. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

What's up, Holland? Another year a podcast movement.

Energy, Community, and Monetisation

SPEAKER_02

Another year, we made it one more year, man. Technically, it's like our anniversary with podcast movement because we started last year with DC. How do you feel now that you have gone to uh movement, you've gone to evolution, and we are here. We were in DC, Chicago, now we're in Dallas.

SPEAKER_01

Come on. And it feels good. You know how you show up somewhere and everybody's like, hey, Landy, hey Paula. Like, we are the energy, we divide. They don't understand. All right. It's no show into Paula and loyalty shows up, okay? We got our boy EA out there because he comes with the flavor. We like a trio. So you gotta have all. The best threesome ever. Come on. And not literally, but hey, yes, the best threesome you ever see, for sure. Because, you know, it's it's not all about that. You know, sometimes people don't realize energy is monetization, right? So the energy we bring, it monetize off the bat because when you bring good energy and people can really see your vibe, they're gonna keep coming. They're gonna come continue to support, support, support over and over.

SPEAKER_02

So yeah, it's about my my bad, but you you've been coming lately a lot, like this come what okay, back to the topic.

SPEAKER_01

Sorry, my bad. Um I'm just saying, I'm coming. I'm coming everywhere, okay? I'm coming to your city.

SPEAKER_02

So, um, you know, uh I'm stopping my podcast talk shit with P and I've been talking about change and rebranding. Did we say you're stopping talk shit with P? Yeah, baby, for now, for now. For now. You know, um, the tongue gotta stay in now, not out.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_02

What have you learned about yourself? Or what have you grown? How have you grown since the first time you came to Boca's moment?

Audio vs Video: Finding Your Comfort

SPEAKER_01

Well, so um what it what it taught me is so I started my podcast with video podcasting. Um, some people, you know, of course, start with audio. So I've been listening, like seeing the benefits of having that audio as well, not just having a video, but I think it's more of me getting in my comfortability of just having that conversation. Because I feel like when I'm on a camera, then I feel like at least I'm speaking to somebody, but it's kind of awkward for me. But just learning how to pivot and use both. Use your audio and your video because they both serve the purpose and also it can open and expand your reach, you know, as far as who you want to reach to.

SPEAKER_02

I love that. And as a person who um um I don't wanna get too passionate in your business, but uh, we are talking shit with P. I'm gonna say I get in people's business and I I get too personal, but what about you?

SPEAKER_01

That's why I became a podcaster because I love I'm nosy as hell. I love being in people's business, y'all. Listen.

SPEAKER_02

Right? Like as a podcast when you have a guest, you're allowed to deal with it.

SPEAKER_01

Like I can get nosed, I can get all up in your business on purpose, okay?

Burnout, Boundaries, and Balance

SPEAKER_02

So with life, you have kind of you know, sometimes you take a break and the break becomes longer than the initial time. Yeah, so I've been on a break for a while. Yeah. What would it take you to get back out there?

Transparency, Storytelling, and Tribe

The Loyalty Reframe: “In” Not “Is”

SPEAKER_01

It's funny you asked that um sometimes, you know, starting out in the podcasting where sometimes I feel like we can overdo it because you want to show up so much, you know, and sometimes you can over-think extend yourself when it comes to your podcast and just really showing up for your audience because it takes energy. So the more you show up, the more energy it takes for you to have to be there. And so, and not only that, life was life, and you know, I'm still going through life, going through challenges and things that I'm experiencing. And so just learning how to balance it too. So I started to dial back and then started to realize, hey, because I wasn't in the, I never I didn't get to the point of monetization as of yet. Okay, I always say yeah because it's never too late to pivot and to, you know, revamp and rebrand yourself so you can really put yourself out there. So I had to kind of, you know, just take a seat back to really, you know, look at what I was doing, the value that my podcast was bringing, because I'm a storyteller. I like to tell people stories behind just what you do. Okay, a lot of us are podcasters, right? But who is Paula? Who is loyalty? People want to deep dive. And I feel like the more transparent we are with our stories, the more we're able to really see our tribe of people. So um it's it's funny as when I'm coming back out because I was challenged. I had a friend of mine call me, like literally out of the blue. She was blowing my phone up and she was like, Man, I got this artist. He's in Atlanta like right now. I told him about you, and he's so excited, you know, because she's seen my work, you know, even though I had pivoted for a minute and I felt like that was confirmation for me to really put myself back out there. And then she came to Atlanta and she was a big valuable part of my journey. Her name is Arya the Boss. She even helped me with um coming up with the loyalty in everything name. I started with loyalty is everything. A lot of people didn't know that, right? But I had to pivot and change is to end, right? And that's why I know it's more welcoming. Yes, it's because it's about loyalty in everything, not is, because is loyalty everything? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Uh we know some people don't know the first thing about being loyal. Come on, that's speaking. I know, I uh I know when you listen to this, you know yourself.

SPEAKER_01

They know who they is with their unloyal asses. They know they know who they are, okay?

SPEAKER_02

It's funny because loyalty should be everything, yet it isn't funny enough. But I like how you say that because you know, as I said, uh when you're taking a break, or when you're pivoting, or rebranding, or stopping, uh sometimes you might feel like you're failing, or sometimes you might feel like you're derailed, or whatever. But sometimes that pause is needed for you to figure out your next step. Because should it be like, okay, yes, I'm still podcasting and just dropping episodes every day, but there's no direction when you can sit down and figure and come up with a plan so to direct for your podcast to grow the right way.

Pivot Without Shame: Lose and Regain

SPEAKER_01

Right? And it's pros and cons to it. Now, don't get me wrong. Now, when you pivot and your audience is used to seeing you at a certain level or a certain consistency, when you stop doing it, you know, with no explanation, because sometimes life happens like that. And I couldn't, I didn't have an explanation at the time. I was just going through it, and mentally I had to get myself in check, right? So sometimes you're gonna lose some of your audience, and that's okay. But my thing is if it's really your audience, even when you come back to the platform, and the more consistent you be when you return, then you can regain that audience, and you may even gain a bigger and even better audience than before.

Origin Story: Talk Shit with P

SPEAKER_02

And that's the thing. If they stop when you brand it, they really want your fans or your come on. So, and I feel communication is key, right? So when you're taking a break, let the people know. When you're coming back, let the people know. I'm really lucky over like when I think about 15 episodes, season 10. I'm literally supposed to be dropping it in September. And I'm delaying. But in my head, because literally I could have just been like season nine, we're down, we stop. But I want to make sure my audience knows like we are ending this. I want to give them a proper ending season that way when Willie Brando comes back, they'll be like, you know, she did tell us she's gonna be gone for a while.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I have a question for you though, Paula. So when we talk about talk shit with P, like where was your where was your original idea around it? Where made you even come out with the talk shit with P? Uh being drunk.

Investing in Brand: Logo Lessons

SPEAKER_02

So uh COVID, with everything that was going on, I was going through a breakup, I was drinking too much shit that I was going on back home. And then most of you know I went to school in Malaysia, so I have people who are Asians who I consider family. I mean, we have Jay here who's Asian and is my family. Right. That nigga. Hey, this is talk shit with P. You never know what you might hear. Um, but um, so and I was really getting depressed, and I saw myself going really under. And I wrote an email to my ex. Um, and then I went on Twitter. That was when Twitter was Twitter, not ex. Uh, I went on Twitter and I started bitching about all my feelings and the letter. And then a friend of mine who until today I call her my manager because she really helps run ideas with me. Like she she gets first hand in for what is coming with talk she will be, whether it's match or anything. She has supported in so many ways, she just doesn't like being in front of the camera or anywhere, she's literally behind the scene, like really behind the scene. Right. I didn't even know she was following me on Twitter because that's how silent she likes to be. She's like a ghost follower, right? Okay. Uh, but then she was like, Paula, you got a lot of shit to say. You should start a podcast. I was like, you know, I should fucking start a podcast. I woke up the next day, I didn't rub a beer from the fridge, I actually showered. I called my dad and my dad said she actually showered y'all. In 2020, I mean, how many people were actually showering every fucking day in 2020?

SPEAKER_01

Now listen, I want I want to speak on something because you said something about depression, right? And people don't really understand the levels of depression. And even to that point, that's part of it. Like, you get to a point that you don't want to do any self-care, you're not trying to wake up, you're not attempting to even go take a shower, something that simple.

SPEAKER_02

So, yeah, so you don't even want the light, you just want to be in your dark corner and just chill. So I woke up, I did that, and anytime I say I want to do something, if I tell my dad and my younger brother, shout out to Alvin, he just signed his birthday was literally a week ago. Right. Um and then whenever I tell them, they really hold me accountable. They're like, okay, give us a date of your launch. I tell them I was technically supposed to launch by the end of April. They're like, give me this. And then from there, I went and I called one of my talented friends. Um, and I was like, I need a logo. Right. And they're like, And your logo is dope, by the way. If y'all haven't seen her logo, maybe she got tap in. But that's after two years of my podcasting journey, we rebranded to that. It's not a logo I started with.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, wow. See, I'm at that point where I'm ready to rebrand with my logo and things of that nature, just to kind of, you know, get more eyes on it.

Constructive Critique and Iteration

Grief to Mission: Creating from Pain

How to Get Unstuck

SPEAKER_02

And sometimes simple is best. And it is, because when I started, when I my first logo was just purple lips, and then it said talk shit with pee, and then T SWP were coming out of the mouth on the side and the mic, like we are talking shit and whatever. Right. And it worked. But then when I went to Portfest, I met um an incredible guy who uh I I don't know why his name is not coming up right now, but um, he reviewed my property, it was doing free reviews, it's amazing on Instagram and whatever. And I was so nervous because again, we want constructive criticism, but you also don't want to look the person in the eye when they tell you what you're doing wrong. Absolutely. To grow, you need it, right? Absolutely, you need it. So I went and we were looking, and it was like, Paula, you're doing amazing. Everything you're doing is right, but you have so much energy that we need that energy on your logo. Right. I was like, but people keep on saying you shouldn't put your face on a logo. Well, they know you to know you to know you know. But wait, that's that's right. So I it was like, that's if it's a business or a market, but you are literally having conversations with people about personal stuff. They need to feel it. That's when we literally, this logo, we went back and forth for a month. When I came back home after protest, we started rebranding, we started thinking about ideas. So there was my illustrator, there was the guy who gave me the idea to change the logo, and then there was Adam Sidley, who I trust in everything that he tells me to do. Okay. So those people, the logo, he would send it to me, I would send it to them because I was like, I literally pay, and that's why sometimes it's important to invest in your business. My first logo, I only paid 50 bucks. My second one was 350. And it's not sometimes we should always invest in our business. Yeah, because I know sometimes you don't have the left, but you gotta pick certain, you can't always just wait to get money. You can say, hey, I'm not gonna Uber it's this week and let's invest on our new logo. Then eventually it took me forever. Like when you go listen back to my old episodes, I didn't get a jingle or a proper intro and outro until season 405. Every year, I would I would search the people who are doing it, get the price, and then I'd be like, I'll come back. At least now I know how much it is. I go hustle for that money and I come back. Absolutely. So we're even going back with all those people because I was like, if I'm paying 350, I want to make I'm gonna make sure it's right. Absolutely. And then there was a time we were like, something is missing, but we don't know what it was. Like it was not giving me the wow factor. Right. And we were going back and forth, back and forth, and eventually we were like, let's take a break from it. We literally stepped away for two weeks, not talking about the logo and not looking about, and then he woke up one day and he sent me a logo, and I looked at him and I was like, It's still the same logo, but he just switched it. When he turned it, I was like, now it makes sense. And because at the moment when we're trying to figure out which works, we were so invested in, we were thinking maybe because when you say it's missing a wall factor, you think you have to add something, but it wasn't about directional taking of songs, come on, and it became amazing, he works great with it, and I and I love it. And talking talk shit with P has been talking with P since. Oh started because of depression, breakup, and and getting drunk.

Where to Find Us and Support

SPEAKER_01

And that okay, so to what I was saying about your logo, it speaks for who you are, it's it speaks for everything, everything that that P stands for. Look, the mic don't like us today, but it's okay, okay. It is okay. Speak for yourself. Only on my side, only on my side. It just don't like me. No, so listen, my mic just don't like me today. I don't know, okay, but we pivot. We don't matter, it doesn't matter, okay? You stay ready and gotta get ready. But y'all have to check out her logo because it speaks for who you are. Like when I see your logo, I'm like, okay, yeah, that's definitely P. It's her personality, it's everything embodied into that. So I could see you through even your logos. You know what I'm saying? Thank you so much. Absolutely. And even to like why I started my my um podcast, for me, it was more pain that I my pain was a little different. Um, I went through grief. I lost my brother, unfortunately. Um, he passed, he fell asleep at the wheel, and he and he died unfortunately. He read off the highway and hit the exit pole. And it changed my life in a major in a major way. Um, I had to process my grief in so many different levels from being angry because there was nobody to blame, right? But the world is mad. You want something, you when somebody, when you lose someone, you you're angry at the world and you want somebody to blame. But when there's nobody else involved, who do you blame? And I can't blame God because at the end of the day, everything that's good.

SPEAKER_02

I have been guilty about blaming God. I'm not mean, I'm getting better. But I get when you're in that moment of frustration and you're like, damn God, I've been giving you my own. I'm trying. Why gotta be this? And then I'll be like, but Paula, clearly there's a reason, okay? So but it's hard to kind of get yourself from then I'm gonna stay up. So we're gonna wrap it up since the mic is acting up and I I don't wanna whatever, but um what advice would you have for somebody who's stuck? Because I feel like that's where you are right now, content-wise. So maybe when you say it, because sometimes you know, when you're giving somebody an advice that you should be giving yourself when you eat it.

Farewell to Season Ten

Tools Plug: Stamp It Social

SPEAKER_01

That's so crazy you asked me that question. Because do you know? Okay, so you know we're on the owl app, right? All right, so if y'all don't know about Al, I'm gonna tell you all about it. Make sure when you download it, put in my referral code, loyalty, L-O-Y-A-L-T-Y. But on the Al app, one of my first questions I have is how do you get unstuck? Oh wow. So that's why it's crazy that you ask me that, right? Because then that's when you gotta really be transparent. The biggest thing a lot of people are stuck, including myself, because we're in our own heads. You have to get out your heads, and we're our biggest critics. A lot of times we don't show up because we feel like it's gotta be this way and it's gotta be that way. We make so many excuses, but excuses are for those who make them, right? And I'm not so big on excuses, so it's really no excuse. So it's like you really, just really gotta tap out of your mind, right? And just do the work. Don't worry about who's parading you, don't worry about who's um not supporting you. Just continue doing, especially if that's the mission that God placed you on. You have to be consistent. So, okay, friend, I hear you challenging me to get back on my podcast and I hear you, okay? And not only that, you give it up to the people. I want you to give it back to yourself. Right. So um I've been challenged in a bit amazing way. Like, so I don't know if the podcast is necessarily coming back for myself, full circle, but because of my new mission with me being the youth um coordinator, I have been called to do a youth podcast with our church, right? So I attend Kingdom of God International Ministries, which is in South Fortin, Georgia, very close to Atlanta. And yes, we have a new mission to rebuild our youth ministry. So part of that youth ministry is about me, everything that I've learned and that was instilled to me as being a podcaster. I want to teach our youth and teach them how they can do it from as simple as a phone. You don't need much equipment. Yes, you can have all the fancy, snapsy stuff, but you it's not necessary to start. You can start with your with your mobile device. So we're gonna start there and then we're gonna work on entrepreneurship and other things. So I really want to kind of pour into them and maybe more behind the scenes and really kind of show them how they can also be the limelight and we back to you, you know. So that's I think that's my new mission for sure. I love it.

SPEAKER_02

And right where you are then, so let the people know. Shout out to EA, he just poked by. That's the third we were talking about. Yes, that's our triplet. But um, speaking of that, right? Let the people know all the amazing stuff you do. I'm so mad you don't have the lip gross over here for us to do uh while he's licking, we might have to go get the bag.

Atlanta Lovefest and Awards

SPEAKER_01

Hey, hey, bro. EA, go get the go go grab our bag over there. I don't think he's listening to his head. He's not listening, he's listening to his headphones, but it's okay. So let the people know all the amazing stuff you're doing and where they can find me. Absolutely. Absolutely. So, guys, you can find me on at loyalty and everything on every single platform, okay? And that's L-O-Y-A-L-T-Y. I is in Indian, and is in Nazi, and you're gonna spell out the word everything. So loyalty and everything, and that's what it's really about. Of course, you can also go to our nonprofit organization. So, yes, I do have my own nonprofits, the LIE Foundation.org. Of course, L-Iefoundation.org. That's where you would love if you want to support the mission. We're pointing to our underserved, underprivileged youth community, which is so needed. We actually have an event on August the 23rd calling the Saving Our Youth Community Summit, and we're calling the full community out because it is a community effort. We need everybody. We need you, you, you, and you, your children. We need the adults, we need the parents, we need your neighbors, okay? Because there's a big initiative, there's a lot of violence in our city, and it takes for us all to do it. So that's definitely how you can support me. And what about you, P? Because I need to know how can it tap in with talking shit with P what talk shit with P, okay? Let's put some respect on it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

When you met me, how long have you known me? Two years, three? I think it's been about three years now. When you met from when you known me that first time to now, what was the impression? Then what's the impression now?

SPEAKER_01

Well, when I first met, I'm like, who the hell is this wild child? I have no clue. She's very colorful. But listen, she jumping on everybody. Now to know her is to really know her, y'all. I would tell you, she's definitely my sister. Um, definitely gotten me in some rooms. Of course, you know, my thing is you put me in a room, I can I can sell myself to any crowd, okay? So I appreciate the opportunities, of course, my sister. And this is just the beginning, you know. So you need good friends, good community, of course. And so you are definitely part of my community, sister. And hopefully I've been able to give you just as much value as you've given me throughout our um friendship, our sisterhood, the whole nine. Because you keep packing my fridge. Yeah, so we're gonna have that chicken soup, y'all. Y'all make it to catch us, okay? Catch us on talk talk shit with P as we cook the chicken soup, okay? That's gonna be our next episode.

SPEAKER_02

All right, thank y'all for for hang thank you for hanging out with me. Thank you for being part of this and talk shit with peace with you. Okay, listen up, y'all. I'm about to give y'all a great ass tip, okay? Y'all know I barely read my DMs and God don't get me started on tracking my links. But now I'm lucky organized. And you wanna know why? I've been obsessed with it. Like, for once, I know which post made your run to my link and which ones have flopped harder than my ex is mixtape. Sorry. Plus, here's a kicker. Get this right, there's a seven-day free trial because we don't do commitments without a test drive, y'all. And if you're feeling spicy, or should I say extra spicy, use code polar20. So if you're a content creator, podcaster, or just tired of shouting into the void, go check out Stamped Social because your content deserves better than linking bio with zero context.
