The Consumer Insurance Contracts Act 2019 (Ireland)

Helen Tilley
, Partner at CPB, is joined by guest speaker, Deirdre Munnelly, Partner at Mason Hayes & Curran to discuss the implications of the Consumer Insurance Contracts Act 2019, in the Republic of Ireland. The Minister for Finance has now announced that most of the provisions will begin on 1 September 2020.  Proportionate remedies for misrepresentation, changes to duties pre-contract and on renewal and provision of a schedule setting out 5 years premium and claims paid history are postponed for a year, as these involve the most preparations for insurers.

• Preparations by Irish insurers before a start dates for the 2019 Act

• Key changes and some comparisons with the UK legislation - CIDRA 2012

• The proportionate outcomes for misrepresentation by insurance applicants

• The new Third Party Rights regime, which shall apply from 1 September 2020

• Adaptions to claims handling by Irish insurers under the 2019 Act
