Episode #39 A Moment with Mayda
Show Notes

Mayda Berrios entered foster care in her mid-teens as a result of a challenging relationship with her biological mother. From day one, Mayda was a strong self-advocate. She stayed in foster care until the age of 18 when she graduated high school and headed off to Delaware State University where she is currently a Junior. She took advantage of Independent Living Services and was able to seek several resources to aid her in housing, education, and employment. She turned 21 years old in Fall of 2020 and became a CASA Volunteer! In our conversation with Mayda, she is very open about her experience in foster care and provides great kudos to those who assisted her in her journey. This is a great "Feel Good" episode where CASA volunteers can pick up several tid-bits of ideas on how to best advocate for youth experiencing foster care.
