Episode #48 The Elizabeth W. Murphey School

September 24, 2021 CASA Delaware Live! Episode 48

In Episode #48, we chat with Mrs. Melissa Briddell of the Elizabeth W. Murphey School located in Dover. The Murphey school is a group home that serves children ages 6-18 then offers a transitional housing option for those over 18 years old. Ms. Briddell outlines life as a house parent, explains the residential breakdown of cottages, and then explains the transitional housing options for youth who have aged out of state custody. Mrs. Briddell tells us that the Elizabeth Cottage houses boys ages 13-18, the Sanford Cottage houses girls ages 13-18, the Florence Cottage houses boys ages 6-12 and the Bradford Cottage houses girls 6-12 years of age. She explains her staff members and provides some insight as to life at the Murphey School. She outlines activities that residents are involved in and encourages CASA volunteers to keep in touch with the house parent and workers at Murphey School to continue strong advocacy for children experiencing foster care.
