Episode #50 Youth Involvement In Court
Show Notes

In Episode #50, we chat with two CASA Coordinators, Emella Kamara and Jennifer Falkowski. Both coordinators share insight on the benefits of youth engagement during their court hearings. They discuss some barriers as well but also discuss how the virtual court appearance option has allowed more youth to attend court and feel comfortable doing so! By virtually participating in court, youth have missed less school, have been able to have some physical distance between themselves and other parties to the case, and have been able to speak more directly with their judge through the use of the breakout room function. Both Emella and Jen discuss how their CASAs identify if a youth wants to participate, then works with the triad to determine how they will participate. Youth may participate in part of the court hearing (then determine which part), all of the court hearing, or make an appointment to meet with the judge at a seperate time. Enjoy this chat with two awesome coordinators!
