You have been warned. So if you continue. That is your own, at your own peril. And if you have watched the episode, welcome, we're excited to discuss it. I'm Lauren, the Director of Development.
Ali: I'm Ali. I am the Head of Marketing and Publicity.
Tosca: And I'm Tosca. I'm the Founder and CEO of Passionflix and the Director of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Lauren: Beautiful. So what is one word that you'd use to describe this episode?
Ali: Revealing?
Lauren: Hmm.
Tosca: Oh yeah, that's a good one. Um. Heartbreaking.
Lauren: Mine was gonna be emotion.
Tosca: Oh yeah.
Ali: Just the feelings.
Tosca: I know. So many feelings. Lots of feelings. Feelings. Mm-hmm. But also revealing and also. Uh, information. Mm-hmm. Yes.
Lauren: So, speaking of information, this episode is where the vampire world really starts to feel real.
What were the big pieces that you knew you had to include to really sell the world?
Tosca: Well, so now we're halfway through the season. Mm-hmm. And so at this point, we need to explain the law. Of this world. And the only way to do that is through exposition. Mm-hmm. And so, um, and this is how it's told in the book as well,
Lauren: right?
Tosca: Because the person that needs to learn about this world is Beth. Mm-hmm. And Wrath is explaining it to her. So this is why we have thou very long dinner. Yeah. Um, but it's, it was, it's needed. And, and it's also, you know, we start the episode with. How a transition happens, right? Where we see Marissa and Young Wrath and then we explain to Beth, um, what the Vampire race.
You know, who they're fighting, um, what their weaknesses are. Mm-hmm. Uh, things like that. And so I think it, it's, you know, it's necessary information and I think, I think we told it quite well.
Lauren: Yes. I love that. That, and so speaking of that dinner scene, um, Fritz is really the emotional, like, bridge between the human world and the vampire world.
Um, especially for Beth. Uh, what was it like directing the scenes between Olivia and Gene?
Tosca: Oh, great. I mean, listen, that dinner scene was so complicated because in the book there are like five courses. Mm-hmm. And um, and so we're trying very hard to stay true to the book. So there's all these things that are happening.
But Gene, our wonderful Fritz, he has to walk in and out of that kitchen with a new meal and place it. Very particularly each time and, you know, when you film a, a dinner scene, that that took the better part of a day. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. You know, 12 hours of shooting
Lauren: Yeah.
Tosca: To film that. And that's us. You know, that's him walking in and out of the door with a new plate of food and out with the old plate, and then in with the, it was just constantly walking in and out.
He was such a trooper. Yeah, he was. And he had to keep track of. Everything. Yeah. And be like, okay, and now I'm serving this and now I'm taking this way. Mm-hmm. And now I'm serving this. And while these two wonderful actors are staying in character, um, but we had to switch out the food halfway through conversations and everything.
Oh yeah.
Ali: Yeah. So, yeah, it was fun. The founding and signature members were there that day too. They were. And so they were, they were great because when you were going through the scene over and over, everyone would be like, oh, are we gonna get it? Are we gonna get it? And at the end, everyone would cheer.
'cause it was so complicated. There was a lot of courses, like you said. So com really fun. So whenever it was nailed, they got really excited. It was really cute. Yeah.
Lauren: And so can you talk a little bit about casting Gene? What made him perfect for the role?
Tosca: Oh gosh. I mean, you know, we had a bunch of people who auditioned, which was great.
Um, but as soon as he appeared he was perfect. He actually, I recall him doing a different accent, not an English one, and then we asked him to re-audition with the English accent and he also had a beard. Oh, that's right. So, and we're like, okay. So we need you to shave your beard and speak in an English accent, uh, or English esque accent.
Mm-hmm. Um, and uh, initially he was like, you know, I don't know what it is with men and beards, but he did. A lot of people do not wanna get rid of their beards. Right. And, um, and so he was like, oh, it's my daughter's wedding. I've always had this beard. I'm not really sure. But then I was like, but we'd like you to be Fritz, and Fritz doesn't have a beard.
And he was like, I'm totally in. That sounds great. Also, um, his wife is a fan of the series and has read the books. No way. And so it was like I've got to, my wife is saying, oh my gosh, that I have to do this my, and he was, and I mean, what a joyful person to work with. He's just fabulous. I'm just so thrilled that he's our Fritz.
Yeah.
Lauren: I also love that his wife is a fan of this series that's such a small world, and it's just a nice little kismet moment.
Ali: I sent him the screeners to watch. We send our actor screeners so they can see the episodes ahead of time. And he said, and don't worry, I watched it alone. I said, Gene, it's okay if you watch it with your wife.
So I hope, I hope you've gone back and watched it with your wife.
Lauren: Oh my God, I wanna know what that conversation must have been like. She's like, what do you mean I can't watch it with you? What do you mean you have to watch this on your own? That's not fair. I was so cute. I would, I, if that was me, I would've been upset.
I was like, excuse me, we're watching this together. Yeah, no, and I, but I do love that you get the. Like when he's driving Beth home, you get the hint of, uh, like the history between them like that he was there all the time.
Tosca: Exactly. The amazing thing about working with a Gene and doing that driving scene where we really understand that he and Darius have been a part of Beth's life for.
Ever. Yeah.
Lauren: I, I loved it. I, I thought it was really sweet. That was a moment from the book where I was like, oh my gosh. Like, that's, like, that's her learning more of her history as well, that she didn't even realize was. Happening at the same time. And so I, and he's just this, he portrays Fritz in such a sweet way.
Like a grandfatherly type way almost. Yeah. Yeah. And so it was like when she hugs him after he drops her off, I was just like, oh, that's why I said emotion was my word. I was just like, all the feels this episode. 'cause Yeah,
Ali: I agree. You could feel they had such great chemistry. Mm-hmm. You could. He did. He just did such a good job. Yeah, I,
Tosca: yeah, he was wonderful. And you know, he was, there was a lot of dialogue for him to remember and so many facts. Yeah. And he knew it perfectly. And one of the things that people might not realize is when you have so many facts to tell and you have to physically act as well, you kind of have to match your actions with the words that you're saying.
Right. So as you can see. He's starting some of the conversation as he's walking to the car. Mm-hmm. Then he has to walk around the car, then he has to get in the car. Yep. And he continues the conversation and then he drives to Beth's and then gets outta the car and continues the conversation. And, um, and so just technically, I was highly impressed with Gene because he nailed it.
And also he, you know. We're not really driving. Right. But he made it seem like just, you guys know, we don't actually drive when, when people are driving in movies, they're not actually driving. Um, this is all movies. Um, and so, um, so he was, he really portrayed that driving well. I was like, that's impressive.
Um, and yeah, and he's there to. Tell us about Beth's childhood. Yeah. Again, so it's like all this information, information that her, her, her, her, her life in the system, um, what happened to her mother, all these things. Um, it's, uh, it's all revealed
Lauren: and it gives people who may might not have read the book yet.
Like little bit more information as well. Yeah. Which is nice. Um, so after watching this one, does the brotherhood world feel more dangerous, emotional, or both? Where are we landing?
Tosca: I think it's quite. Emotional actually, especially with, uh, Tohrment. Mm. You know, I mean, come on guys. Yeah. Nice fucking suit.
Lauren: Oh my God, that was one of my favorite parts when I re-watched it recently.
I was just like, oh, you tell him so good.
Tosca: Yeah. Yeah. Um, you know, there's a few things. Obviously we have, um, wrath and his. Almost comical attempt in the mirror to smile.
Lauren: My God, that was amazing. Yes. That was like, I, I can be, I can be warm. I could, could be.
Tosca: Right. Exactly. I could be charming. I'm gonna, I'm going on a date.
Right, exactly. 300 years later. Oh gosh. Um. So that was great. And then of course, you know, the struggle of, it's a struggle for him to be open and vulnerable like that. Right. And Tohrment calls him on it. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And I really loved that and I loved how Joel did it did. So he's just so good. And, and of course, Robert's reaction, Robert's just great.
Right?
Lauren: No, that scene between the two of them was probably one of my favorites of the episode. Just 'cause it's like, like, oh, it's such a good moment.
Ali: I've seen a lot of people talking about that online, waiting for that moment. Oh yeah.
Lauren: Oh my God.
Tosca: Yeah, that's really good. Tohrment is fantastic in it and, and really shows the, um, for lack of a better word, intimacy between the brothers Yeah.
And how close they really are. Yeah. Um, and this episode is really, in my opinion, like. The Marissa episode. Yeah.
Lauren: So, yeah, speaking about that, I know we briefly mentioned Wrath and Marissa in the very beginning, like the, we see hi him transitioning with her help and then we immediately see her standing at the window as if she was the one remembering that memory and I, oh, it's so good.
But what was your reaction when you first saw the scene come together in the final cut?
Tosca: It's the scene after he feeds on her. Right. That to me is the most. Beautiful scene. Mm-hmm. Right. And I actually pictured that scene from the very beginning, like as I was reading the book and when we were putting together this, the scripts, how we filmed that scene, it was exactly how I pictured it.
It's just basically on Marissa. Mm-hmm. And her back's towards him. She's not looking at anybody. It's actually, you know, I think I mentioned this before, but. Marissa doesn't really look at anybody and she's very closed. And so, but this moment, I mean, God, it's so heartbreaking. Yeah. But voicing what she knows to be true.
Mm-hmm. And releasing wrath. Yeah.
Lauren: From the covenant. I know that was, ugh. Oh yeah. Well, and yeah, the way you filmed that was. Brutal in terms of like the viewer just having to, like you see her face the entire time. You see the tears in her eyes streaming down her cheeks, like you can see the raw emotion that she's portraying there.
It's devastating. Yeah. Because she's devastating. You feel her devastation. Yeah. You do. All she has wanted for over 300 years. 'cause Yeah, he's been alive for over 300 years. Is is his affection? Yeah. Is is any kind of actual like mating partnership with him? Yeah. And all they've been doing is using each other for the, for the food, for the feeding on, yeah. Blood. But like, it broke my heart.
Tosca: Yeah, and Victory did such an amazing, she's so great. She is. She really is a rock star.
Lauren: Oh my God. I'm obsessed with her. Yeah. She's also just like the sweetest human in the world, the sweetest human. We, I don't know. I don't know if we ever posted about it, but she sent you a neon sign that says, directed by Tosca Musk, which I think is just such a cool thing to have in your office.
I love it. She's very, very sweet. So this episode also peels back some of Butch's layers. Mm-hmm. Um, we see him investigating, getting fired, and most notably, we get the powerful line. This won't bring your sister back. Yeah. From Jose, which is just Ah, right. To cutting him, way to cut him at the knees, you know?
Right. In the, that moment. But what were you hoping the audience would take away from these moments with Butch?
Tosca: I don't want Butch to be a two dimensional character. Right. And it's hard because he's constantly like, ah, I'm butch, and I'm running around and I'm mm-hmm. Gonna, you know, beat people up and solve Yeah.
Solve problems and save people. Yeah. Um, and, and so that, to me, that line in particular where some people are like, I don't understand why you'd have that line in there. And I'm like, it's a glimpse into the future of what we will learn about Butch. Right. And so it's important to give those little tidbits in.
Mm-hmm. These. Episodes. Yeah. So that we, we know what's coming in the future seasons.
Lauren: Yeah.
Tosca: So, um, you know, I loved it. I thought it was, it's heartbreaking what happened to Butch. I know. Yeah. And his sister, so. Um, I think it's for those of you that have read the books, um, yeah. You know, how much of an impact that has, that line has, um, on Butch.
Mm-hmm. And so I just, I wanted to make sure that some of that was brought in to this season. And Michael Roark is amazing as Butch always. I mean, he's so good at such, so, uh, so many levels. He plays this complex character so
Lauren: well, so well. And he nails the accent. He nails it. Michael Roark is not Bostonian.
He's not, he's not from Massachusetts, but he plays it very well. Yeah. And I, I know that that was an important layer that Yep. Jr wanted for the character, so I'm glad he could pull it off. He was so good.
Tosca: It's also, you, you know, Mike Roark has blue eyes, these Twinkies. He does, he has beautiful blue eyes and suddenly he has to have, uh, like hazel eyes, I think, right?
Yeah. Yeah. And he's like. Wow. Okay.
Lauren: So like, I think this is the first time no one's wanted me for my eyes.
Tosca: Exactly. I was like, no.
Lauren: And so we got to see a fan favorite moment in this episode, which is, and this is one of my favorite moments too, when to goes to Beth's apartment for the first time. Yeah. Oh yeah.
Because Wrath sends her to watch him. To watch her. Yeah. Tosca, what was your approach directing that scene? Uh, and why do we think this res moment resonates so much with fans?
Tosca: It's a moment where we get to see Tohr as a genuinely caring person. Yeah. Again, so we get to know him a little bit and see how he is also, he's protective.
Mm-hmm. We also learn what a shellen is. Mm-hmm. We understand that Beth's been marked. Yeah. Um, and we also learn a little bit about Wellsie. So again, it's, there's a lot of information that we need to, uh, that we provide in that, in that moment. So we needed to do it in a very. Caring, informative, friendly way.
Lauren: Yeah. That was also Beth's moment learning that, uh, vampires eat real food Yes. And drink real food. Exactly. Which was a really humanizing moment for me too. And it, and it helped 'cause there's so much vampire content out there that like every author changes and even movies change, like Yeah. Mm-hmm. What the specific lore is.
So I found it really interesting with, with Jr's universe is that. They can eat and they love eating. Yeah. And they eat a lot to eat and drink a lot. And it doesn't, 'cause I remember with Twilight, it tasted bad for them food. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. Um, but that, that the way to said it, it just has necessary nutrients.
Yeah. It's like they're taking vitamins by sucking each other's blood up, just like it's too funny. Yeah. Um, but I like that there was a little learning moment for us. And Beth, like you said, that happens a lot in this episode. We're learning through Beth.
Tosca: Yeah. And then of course. You know the Godzilla rooting for the Monster. I know. Rooting for the monster. Yeah, that was great. That's cute.
Lauren: I also, I want, I'm glad I'm remembering to bring this up. I am so excited that we have added black cats to the Passionflix family lore. 'cause I have two black cats. I don't know if people know this. I have two black cats and we had cats in Wallbanger.
Yeah. Mm-hmm. Or one Cat. One cat in Wallbanger. Played by three cats. So it was excited when we, that we actually featured Boo in the show too.
Tosca: Yeah. Boo was great and so great to work with and so it was also, you know, important to have Boo in the room with them.
Ali: And another fan favorite. Yeah.
Lauren: Ali, do you what, why do you think that the moment when tour shows up resonates with fans?
Ali: I think it's kind of what you said. I mean, it's, it's. Where you really start to see them humanized. And you feel the love.
Lauren: Yeah.
Ali: You just feel how, how connected they all are in their world and the love that they're already, you know, having for Beth or, you know, Tohr's there to help protect her. So I think just welcoming us into their world.
Yeah. And bring it, it's emotional. It's good. It is. Yeah. Yeah.
Tosca: I also really like the production design of Beth's apartments. It's so good. The team did an amazing job and I just, we had a great team. I love those, the colors that we used, and it's really, it was very. I liked it a lot.
Lauren: It's really close to how I pictured it when reading the book, which was nice.
Yeah, and I hope I, I wonder if that's the same for other fans as well. Yeah. Back to the dinner scene a little bit. Yeah. Robert said that the brotherhood dinner scene felt like a stage play almost Tosca. Can you talk a little bit more about what it was like directing that scene?
Tosca: What was it like for me to direct the 7,000 hour dinner scene?
Lauren: Yes. Yes. That scene. Um, better all the information. I'm more bringing this up 'cause I want to mention J 'cause JR was on set that day. Oh yeah. And did she, what was her reaction?
Tosca: Oh, she loved it. I mean, she got so excited and she actually, um, at one point when I, I forget what it was, but basically, um, as they were doing, as they were saying the lines, she was like, yes, that's great.
That's amazing. And you, and she, you can't actually make any sound while people are filming because we can. We hear it
Lauren: right
Tosca: And there's no one else at this dinner table except for them. So if you hear somebody screaming, yes, that's amazing in the background, then um. Yeah, you have to do it again.
Lauren: Yeah.
Tosca: So,
Lauren: but I also, I feel like I remember her saying that I'm so, like, I feel like she apologized to you at one point for the fact that she wrote the dinner scene.
From what I remember, she, she said Next time they're gonna have McDonald's, like, I'm so sorry. Next time they're gonna just have McDonald's. They're just gonna,
Tosca: that may be the case. I think that I was just like, I was like, oh yeah, okay. Sure. Go. You were on. Yeah, McDonald's sounds good. Wrappers is probably what I would've thought of. There's likes wrappers noise. No, no, not McDonald's. Well, I know, and that's. And how about I ice cream?
Lauren: Oh, and that's, that's another thing I wanted to mention. The last thing I'll mention about the dinner scene was that the moment where he feeds her uhhuh, the strawberry, oh, I, I feel like Joe can maybe edit together moments in other passion flicks movies where they feed each other.
'cause
Tosca: it's become,
Lauren: it's become quite, uh, I feel like
Tosca: that's the thing is it's a, it's definitely a romance thing. Yeah. But, um, you know, it, it, yeah. Let me feed you, let me feed you, let me feed you, let me feed you, let me feed you. Mm-hmm. Let me feed you. I feel like there are a lot,
Lauren: there are, well, and I know specifically with, with jr's world, um, we learn a little bit later, or maybe even we learn it in season two, that it's a sign of protection or respect when they want to feed each other or.
Tosca: I think, I think it's, if you let them feed you, then it's a, it's basically committing to them.
Lauren: Got you. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tosca: It's like, okay, so that was a nice little one. Feed me now I'm your girlfriend,
Lauren: basically. Yeah. Yeah. And I, and just to talk about the really quickly, the,
Tosca: because you're talking about Rhage and Mary
Lauren: Yes, I am. Yeah. Yeah. When he, when she makes him food in book two. Yeah. Um, but, uh, at the very beginning of that scene when Wrath is just, I love how you. How it worked out in the edit where you see him like he's about to destroy the table.
Yeah. And then all of a sudden Beth's there. So he is like, oh.
Tosca: I just love that it's like, you know you are going on a date and you're like, oh God, this is so nice. He called me, I got a fancy dress. Yeah. I was like, come into the house and as you walk in for dinner, he's like, come and sit. We're gonna eat now.
And you're like, wow. I was not expecting. That I thought maybe it'll be like a hello and a little kiss and a little hug. I mean, we, the last time I saw you, you did say that you were gonna kill me or bite me, and it might be, you know, bad. But, um, we did have sex and so I was thinking things would be good.
And then, um, and then he's like. Really like mean? Yeah. I feel he's like, like, can you imagine? I, I don't know. I, I, I feel like I have gone on dates like that before, but it's like, you walk in, you're like, I, I don't, I thought that we had a thing. It's like, are we good? What's, what's up? What's going on? Like, oh, okay.
And then, um, and he's just so angry at her and she's like, I wanna leave. Yeah. I'm gonna, and I thought Olivia played it so well. She's like, you know what? I don't have to be here. Yeah. I'm gonna leave.
Lauren: Mm-hmm.
Tosca: And then he is like, sit down. Let me amend that. Sit down and shut up. And I was like, I was like, how dare, how dare, how dare. And she handled that well, how dare you speak to me the way. Yeah. And then she's trying not to like throw a fit in front of Fritz. So that was really good.
Lauren: Oh yeah. The grabbing the wine bottle to make it, that's why she's standing up. That's so good.
Tosca: She's like, pour that so much wine in her glasses. Like,
Lauren: Ooh,
Ali: I would have done the same, I need to drink more.
Tosca: Yeah. And then she's like, where do you get off talking like that? And he's like, let me just be very clear. You need me. And she. You know, you know, she realizes she does actually, and not necessarily, she doesn't really know what's gonna happen with the vampire. I think she kind of does, but doesn't really understand the transition things.
Mm-hmm. As, as desperately as we find out. But she does need answers.
Lauren: Yeah.
Tosca: She needs answers about her family, her life, and what a vampire is, and, you know, everything. And, and so I think it's good that she recognized that she's still not happy about it. But she recognizes it
Lauren: and she starts to get those answers.
Yeah. Um, and I, I, I always forget about this moment 'cause the dinner scene is so long, but when I re-watched it recently, I was like, oh my gosh. Yes. They talk about the fact that like, after the transition he'll find her someone else to bite. I know. Mm-hmm. But then he also reveals that that. Is such a painful thought to him.
And I'm like, oh, just, just admit that you like each other. Yeah. Like, it's like just admit the feelings. Um, and so I love that we keep kind of the angst in there too, of like the will they, won't they, because he doesn't want to. And she's like, I don't know what to do. You know? Yeah.
Tosca: And then the same with her when she finds out that he fed the night before.
Yeah, I know. And then she kind of shakes and she's mad. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And then, um. Then,
Lauren: well, I'm, I was proud of him for also asking like, did you have sex? Like, just flat out being like, tell me straight. Like,
Tosca: yeah, yeah. And then he finally cracks.
Lauren: I know,
Tosca: oh, I wanted it to be you. And i'm like, oh, oh, oh my gosh.
So that was really good. I, I mean that, that was really fun. And then, um. Then he was basically like, come with me. And then of course they go down into his bedroom. Mm-hmm. Um, and she's like, um, do you have any condoms? I was like, it's just so funny because she's like, you know, it's probably, I know we've had sex a couple of times, but like, it probably let's do some safe sex now.
Lauren: And then he is so critical about it. He is like, well, you're not fertile. Also, I can't catch human diseases. It's just like. All right.
Tosca: Yeah, that answers that question. And then also it seems like, uh, you know, and this, you know, people who know the series know what knows. They know what the needing is. Mm-hmm.
Oh, yes. And I think that it's a really good, um, way of dropping that little bit of lore in there too. You know, initially when the first script came back, it was like. They describe the needing and what's happening. Mm-hmm. I was like, no, no, no. We don't need that. Let people learn a little bit. Mm-hmm. And also people who read the books know what it is.
Yeah. Yeah. Um. And people who don't, you know, it's interesting to not know everything right away. Yeah, agreed. You wanna find things out and so we'll find it out.
Lauren: Yeah,
Tosca: yeah. Yeah.
Lauren: And I'm glad we, we really tried to do that with these, with the scripts too, was even we were like, oh, well yes, technically we could move this information up, but let's, let's have her find out as it Yeah. As it comes out.
Ali: Yeah. It's not as fun to watch a show when everything's just given to you.
Lauren: Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm, I'm glad, I'm proud of the way we did it. Was there a moment in this episode where you were like. Oh, book fans are gonna feel this one.
Tosca: Yeah. The Marissa scene. Yeah. Yeah. Or Tohrment. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean Marissa, but then, or gut peaches. I know I can't. Peaches. Peaches. This is what this episode is called? Peaches. Peaches.
Lauren: Oh. But yeah, I was gonna say either the Marissa or the Tohr moment, probably just because it's so Well, and also 'cause when. We then see Marissa and, uh, Havers have dinner together and he sees Yeah, her neck, like you start to get a little bit more of a hint of, oh, like this is an insult to their family.
Yeah, their family line almost because. You know, he's the king.
Tosca: Yeah.
Lauren: But you don't even want my sister, like
Tosca: mm-hmm. And, and, um, and then, yeah, exactly. And then Marissa talks about the covenant. Mm-hmm. So we know a little bit more about that. She talks about it twice, both with Wrath and with Havers. So we learn that information.
Mm-hmm. And then we also learn about the scribe virgin.
Lauren: Right. That he, that she has to be contacted and all that.
Tosca: Yeah. That he will go to the scribe virgin and he will ask to be released from the Covenant. And then, um, and then Havers learns that, uh, Beth is. Human.
Ali: Mm-hmm.
Tosca: Mm-hmm.
Ali: I really liked watching Havers and Marissa together.
My God, they, they play so well.
Tosca: They're, they're together. Yeah. Mm-hmm. They're great. I love those scenes. Me Too. And Kellen's such a fantastic person. He's so fabulous. He's so good. And, you know, also in this, you know, we have to sort of drop hints of what's gonna happen with Havers as well, and how he has such a big impact, um, in the future.
Mm-hmm.
Lauren: I love how he delivered the line. He's like, I transfused myself earlier and I feel fine. And in my head I was like, do you feel mind? Yeah. I don't know how convincing you were with that. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But he was so good at that moment.
Tosca: You know what I also like to, and, and something, you know, this is bringing in Mr. XI wanted to make sure while we are talking at that dinner scene, which is forever, um, it was really important for me to flash to, yes, I like X, you did x. See what they are. Mm-hmm. So what a lesser is, so as he's describing what a lesser is, we can see what he's doing, um, at the time that he's describing it to mm-hmm. Uh, to Beth.
Lauren: Yeah, I liked that. And one last kind of talk about wrath, we can clearly see through, even through the dinner, but then the scenes after he's softening with Beth a bit. Um, what do you want people to feel about him at the end of this episode?
Tosca: Oh, I want, I guess I want people to know that Wrath actually has emotions, I guess has. He, he's melting a little bit with Beth. Mm-hmm. That Beth is his home.
Lauren: Mm-hmm.
Tosca: Yeah. And that he likes peaches.
Lauren: No, I can't, not some peaches. Loves, loves peaches. Loves peaches. Okay. So, um, some closing thoughts. Yeah. Uh, what do we think this episode is setting up?
Tosca: Well, again, this episode provides us with so much information.
Mm-hmm. Right? So it's telling us, the world of the vampires. It's telling us, you know, what a transition is like, what we should expect from Beth. Mm-hmm. We, it's telling us, um, what Mr. X is doing. It's telling, it's setting up potentially meeting the Scribe Virgin. It's setting up the future for Wrath. And Beth, it obviously sets up the rift between, uh, Tohr and Wrath.
Ali: Mm-hmm.
Tosca: Well, I guess it. Creates a path for Marissa's future.
Lauren: Mm-hmm. Yeah, it does. That's, that's a great way of saying that,
Tosca: because those, which we'll discover Yeah. In episode four,
Lauren: yes, there's a, yeah, there's a new, lots of changes have happened. Yeah. And so yeah, you get to see that one last time, or just in case it's different.
What was the biggest emotional gut punch or favorite scene for you in this episode?
Ali: Yeah, this one is loaded with the favorites, which I think we kind of touched on, but I mean, I still, my, my favorite part is nice fucking suit. Oh my God. It's just such a good moment.
Tosca: That, so good. Um, I mean, again, I, I think that scene with Marissa is just so wonderful.
Yeah. So. I like it.
Lauren: Those are the two takeaways is more like, I know Wrath and Beth have huge moments in this episode. Yeah. But the Wrath Beth and Tohr moments and the Marissa and Wrath moments are huge. Yeah.
Ali: And I liked getting a glimpse of Young Wrath and I know we'll see more, but he's really great. So it was, yeah, I like that.
Tosca: Yeah. That was nice. Or a character that had almost no lines at all. Mm-hmm. He just had to emote and scream and, uh, go through agony and various things. That actor was very good.
Lauren: Yeah. Yeah. Um, and what I kind of love about the fact that we've been releasing this book as episodes mm-hmm. Is that even people who have read the books, they can maybe guess what the next episode will have.
Yeah. But because a lot can happen in an hour, they don't know exactly what all that will happen. Um, so can we tease any of next week's episodes for either people who have never read the book or people who have of
Tosca: we, we lean into, um. Some happiness, potential happiness for Marissa, which is important.
Ali: Um, and that's one of my favorite scenes of the series, by the way.
Tosca: That's so, yeah. So great. Yeah. It's so beautifully done. And those guys are, uh, just really lovely. And then, um, we also, uh, we see, um. Butch meet all the brothers.
Lauren: Oh, yeah. Oh my God, that's a good one.
Tosca: That's so great.
Lauren: Just you wait people.
Tosca: Yeah, I know. And that, um, and so, you know, those are things that I'm excited about for, uh, next episode.
And also, you know, Beth really, um, Beth meets all the brothers too. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's true. And, um, their reaction to her and how Wrath, um, presents her Mm mm-hmm. To the brothers. Which is quite lovely.
Lauren: Um, well thank you guys for joining for this. Uh, recap episode, which I love, uh, this companion episode.
