NS Wildfires and Evacuation

Jeff - AKA Dr. D Season 7 Episode 11

Little warning, dry conditions left families transitioning from Sunday brunch to evacuating their homes under intense smoke pressure. My hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia and the surrounding communities are experiencing wildfires. While not unknown, it is the first one of the year, causing chaos and loss - predictable, something that all can plan for, but impactful nonetheless.
We discuss the most recent research, building codes, poor transportation design of neighbourhoods and finish with a four point advice on how to plan for evacuation. Have destination, go at first threat, bring what matters and completely, without exception, know your insurance coverage and timelines. Benign informed is your best weapon.
Make the plan, ensure all family members understand their role. Preparedness is free, planning is free and when needed, it's priceless.
