Ok, so hate is a strong word, but in this episode we talk about the connotations the word Teacher has in our minds, why we prefer other terms and what they are.

We talk about:

  • Our favourite mentors
  • How the term mentor is more informal and relational in nature. A mentor acts as an advisor, sharing knowledge based on their lived experience. There’s more sharing between, as mentors strive to help their mentees grow into peers.
  • How mentors learn alongside their students
  • How there is a mutual respect of each other
  • How this dynamic leads to shared responsibility and looking out for each other
  • How this dynamic is what creates the village that raises a child
  • Meeting the child where they are at

Quotes:
“These are the moments that shape a student. We don’t remember classrooms - we remember people and the way they made us feel. "

"Every mentor has the ability to leave a legacy with the children in your community. Authentic connection is the key.”
