Show Notes

In this week's episode, I speak with Leah who started their career in video production but realized they wanted a different way to share their creativity.  After a lot of introspection, and a little help from fate, Leah is now a barber at an inclusive and welcoming barbershop.  They realized along the way that it's not about a career path or journey, but more like a tree.  Each branch represents a different part of your career and a different part of you.  But when you look at the whole tree, it all fits together.  Whether it's remembering you used to watch your grandmother cut people's hair, to redefining what it means to be creative, to understanding the importance of having a home with the people you work with, your career will have different branches, and that's not just ok but exciting!

More about Leah...
Leah Jubara (they/them) is an Ohioan turned New Yorker and a filmmaker turned barber. After working as a filmmaker for about a decade, Leah was drained, stressed, and dissatisfied. A change was necessary. They discovered a new creative outlet in cutting hair and rediscovered their love of filmmaking by allowing it to be a hobby once again. They haven’t just found a new career though. They’ve found community, safety and joy in the workplace. You can find them at the barbershop Cowlick in Brooklyn - cowlickbrooklyn.com. Or on Instagram @barberstreisand.nyc
