00:00:50 Speaker 3

I remember when it was 1999.

00:00:54 Speaker 2

One the other day.

00:00:55 Speaker 2

I was like.

00:00:55 Speaker 2

I'm gonna be 33 next year I.

00:00:57 Speaker 2

Was like I really just don't feel that old.

00:01:00 Speaker 3

I'm already.

00:01:00 Speaker 2

I feel sometimes I feel like I look.

00:01:03 Speaker 2

Like it but yeah.

00:01:05 Speaker 3

00:01:27 Speaker 3

And while you're looking for a name drawing.

00:01:27 Speaker 2

Lots of erasing.

00:01:29 Speaker 2

And redrick.

00:01:31 Speaker 3

So make sure you check that out.

00:01:33 Speaker 3

We will announce the winner of that contest on January 1st.

00:01:37 Speaker 3

But before we do that, we've got some real life hunts to tell you.

00:01:41 Speaker 3

Or just one, maybe.

00:01:43 Speaker 2

Just one just one for this episode.

00:01:45 Speaker 2

To round out 2022.

00:01:47 Speaker 2

And it's a great win.

00:01:48 Speaker 2

This one comes from Lauren and it's one I recorded with her a couple weeks ago.

00:01:54 Speaker 2

So we're gonna have to let her know this.

00:01:55 Speaker 2

One is airing soon.

00:01:56 Speaker 2

But Laurence's story comes from a college town in Georgia. So take a listen.

00:02:07 Speaker 4

My name is Lauren and I have had.

00:02:11 Speaker 4

I guess the pleasure getting to have some paranormal experiences in my life.

00:02:16 Speaker 4

Although these all kind of happened in one specific time frame, between the time I was like 19 and 21 and I can't really explain why they started and.

00:02:30 Speaker 4

In that range, they weren't even all in the same city, but it kind of just was compressed into that time of my life, so I don't know if I was like sensitive during that time or or I just had happened to live in spooky places during this time, which is saying a lot cuz I I live in Charleston now and I have.

00:02:49 Speaker 4

Experienced and I've lived here for like 15 years and I've experienced nothing since.

00:02:53 Speaker 4

I've lived in Charleston, not even on Ghost walks and stuff.

00:02:56 Speaker 4

So anyway, I guess who knows what to chalk that up to, but my first my first experience.

00:03:04 Speaker 4

Science was when I was a sophomore at at college and I was living in one of the older dorms on campus and the way that our dorm rooms were set up, it was kind of like 1 little common room and two bedrooms.

00:03:20 Speaker 4

Kind of off to either side and.

00:03:24 Speaker 4

My roommate at the time and I would periodically smell burnt coffee in our room.

00:03:31 Speaker 4

Which was unusual because we didn't have a coffee pot in there.

00:03:35 Speaker 4

No one on our floor, and it was a small, really small dorm.

00:03:39 Speaker 4

No one on our floor in the building really had a coffee pot, so this we couldn't pinpoint where this stalls coming from.

00:03:48 Speaker 4

And then a couple of times.

00:03:50 Speaker 4

During that time when we were like smelling the snow, I would wake up and there would be sort of a dark mass in my bedroom shapeless.

00:04:03 Speaker 4

But so dark that I couldn't see through it.

00:04:06 Speaker 4

And for context, I had a street lamp right outside my window that cast a fair amount of light into that room, and so the fact that I couldn't see past, you know, three feet or something in this mass.

00:04:23 Speaker 4

But there was something there blocking the light or void of light.

00:04:28 Speaker 4

And it didn't really necessarily freak me out, other than the fact that I couldn't see through it, and I couldn't figure out what it was.

00:04:34 Speaker 4

It didn't feel.

00:04:37 Speaker 4

You know, evil or like it was going to hurt me.

00:04:40 Speaker 4

It's just there.

00:04:42 Speaker 4

Also, during this time with the Black Mask and the the burnt coffee smells I had this dream that.

00:04:52 Speaker 4

I was on campus and there had been this huge snow.

00:04:55 Speaker 4

This really deep snow, which for upstate of South Carolina was like 3 feet like, you know, unheard of cheap.

00:05:04 Speaker 4

And I was walking around with a professor who I didn't recognize and I didn't know and he seemed like a welcoming.

00:05:12 Speaker 4

Kind of guy and he was just sort of walking through the snow with me.

00:05:17 Speaker 4

So Fast forward to a few weeks later when I'm working in the library late at night.

00:05:24 Speaker 4

And I am a little bit bored trying to entertain myself until it's time to lock up and I start looking through the old yearbooks from the mid mid late 70s and I found this one yearbook.

00:05:42 Speaker 4

Opened it up just kind of randomly.

00:05:45 Speaker 4

And there was.

00:05:47 Speaker 4

All of these pictures of a very deep snow.

00:05:51 Speaker 4

It's almost exactly what I saw in my dream.

00:05:55 Speaker 4

Turn the page a couple of pages and there was a full page in memoriam to the professor.

00:06:05 Speaker 4

Who I was speaking with in my dream and.

00:06:09 Speaker 4

And I wish I I I totally wish.

00:06:11 Speaker 4

I could remember this man's name, but.

00:06:13

It it gave.

00:06:14 Speaker 4

Me, it gave me chills, but it also was like you.

00:06:18 Speaker 4

Know ohh perhaps.

00:06:20 Speaker 4

Perhaps he was like took a.

00:06:22 Speaker 4

Liking to me and my roommate and.

00:06:24 Speaker 4

Was like looking out for us.

00:06:26 Speaker 4

And just wanted to be seen like.

00:06:29 Speaker 4

We never felt we were like.

00:06:31 Speaker 4

Oh wow, that's weird.

00:06:32 Speaker 4

But also like ohh, he's he's here and he he cares.

00:06:35 Speaker 4

He still cares about students so so that would be like my first real.

00:06:41 Speaker 4

Like oh wow.

00:06:43 Speaker 4

Sort of.

00:06:45 Speaker 4

So shortly so actually, right after my sophomore year, I transferred schools and I moved to Valdosta, GA, which is a weird town in and of itself.

00:06:59 Speaker 4

I'll get into that a little bit later to explain one of the stories, but it's a weird town and it and.

00:07:04 Speaker 4

I don't know anyone who didn't have a ghostly.

00:07:08 Speaker 4

Counter there think trying to think about it earlier. I was like everybody has some kind of story in Valdosta but yeah, and and it was, it was I had several sort of poltergeist thing so there was 11 duplex. I was living in with my boyfriend at the time and he and I.

00:07:29 Speaker 4

Were standing in the kitchen.

00:07:30 Speaker 4

Like in the middle of the day, you know after class we were making a a grocery list and a bottle of mustard came flying out of.

00:07:41 Speaker 1

The cabinet on.

00:07:42 Speaker 4

Complete other side of the room and it was just.

00:07:44 Speaker 4

Weird and we but we looked.

00:07:45 Speaker 4

At each other we were like we didn't hallucinate.

00:07:47 Speaker 4

That right?

00:07:47 Speaker 4

Like that just happened.

00:07:49 Speaker 4

You and.

00:07:49 Speaker 4

I both saw that.

00:07:51 Speaker 4

So that was at.

00:07:51 Speaker 4

His house and then at my house.

00:07:54 Speaker 4

I would wake up periodically to hear.

00:07:58 Speaker 4

The sounds of my kitchen cabinets opening and slamming shut.

00:08:02 Speaker 4

That happened a number of times.

00:08:05 Speaker 4

And then one morning I had a mantle fireplace and a mantle, and I had all these candles and stuff like that sitting on the mantle.

00:08:15 Speaker 4

One morning I woke up to have all of just everything that was on my mantle scattered in the middle of the floor and.

00:08:25 Speaker 4

I didn't have like a cat.

00:08:27 Speaker 4

There was no.

00:08:28 Speaker 4

There was no one.

00:08:29 Speaker 4

I lived there completely alone, no animals, nothing that could have thrown the entire contents of my mantle like into the center of the den.

00:08:41 Speaker 4

And I could never really.

00:08:43 Speaker 4

Explain that one so there was something there it didn't really feel malevolent other than just maybe a little.

00:08:52 Speaker 4

A little ****** *** about.

00:08:53 Speaker 4

I don't know my decor or something.

00:08:57 Speaker 4

But I was I was glad to move.

00:09:00 Speaker 4

If someone were to do some research.

00:09:01 Speaker 4

On Valdosta it.

00:09:02 Speaker 4

Has some dark.

00:09:03 Speaker 4

History some you know, racial baldness.

00:09:10 Speaker 4

There's a lot of.

00:09:11 Speaker 4

Spooky stuff that probably continues to happen down there.

00:09:16 Speaker 4

It was a Middletown and it was on.

00:09:18 Speaker 4

It was like in a major corridor for railroad as well, so lots of transients coming through a fair amount of crime happening there.

00:09:30 Speaker 4

You know, like even now, it's like on the I-95 corridor and there's a lot of like drug busts and stuff like that. So it's kind of a crossroads sort of town and always has been.

00:09:40 Speaker 4

Which I think might contribute to some.

00:09:42 Speaker 4

Of that activity, but in particular it's an unusual place because it has a city within a city.

00:09:51 Speaker 4

There is a small town.

00:09:53 Speaker 4

It's incorporated separate from Valdosta called Remerton and Remerton.

00:09:59 Speaker 4

Comprises probably.

00:10:02 Speaker 4

I'm going to estimate about 5 acres or so in the center of the city, and it was incorporated specifically for as a mill village, so we'll go there today.

00:10:14 Speaker 4

There is an old mill mill building.

00:10:17 Speaker 4

They may have done something with it by now.

00:10:19 Speaker 4

It's been a really long time and then probably like.

00:10:23 Speaker 4

5 streets deep by three city blocks.

00:10:26 Speaker 4

Wide Ish of former mill houses that have been turned into small businesses.

00:10:33 Speaker 4

And for a long time, and probably even now, many of them are restaurants and bars and stuff like that.

00:10:39 Speaker 4

And they're exactly what you would think.

00:10:41 Speaker 4

Mill Village homes look like.

00:10:43 Speaker 4

They were designed and built for two families.

00:10:46 Speaker 4

They have two front doors, big front porch, you know, quaint looking but simple.

00:10:52 Speaker 4

Very simple.

00:10:53 Speaker 4

Places and there was tons and tons of paranormal activity.

00:10:57 Speaker 4

And all of those I worked in two buildings there and one of them was like a sort of like a.

00:11:04 Speaker 4

A hippie shop like a head.

00:11:06 Speaker 4

Shop kind of place.

00:11:07 Speaker 4

And I would be there by myself and hear people walking around and talking and that sort of thing.

00:11:13 Speaker 4

And you know, I would get up from wherever I was sitting in the back and go to investigate and find out there.

00:11:20 Speaker 4

There was nobody there and that that actually happened at another restaurant downtown now.

00:11:25 Speaker 4

That I'm thinking about.

00:11:26 Speaker 4

It as well.

00:11:27 Speaker 4

That was sort of similar where I was working upstairs and there was.

00:11:31 Speaker 4

I was always like voices and footsteps and stuff like that that was.

00:11:34 Speaker 4

Nobody, nobody's actually there, but the the experience that I remember that really got me was it was one night boyfriend at the time was working at an establishment that's now closed called it was called Louisiana's and it was a bar restaurant in.

00:11:54 Speaker 4

One of these millhouses and I was coming from another job and I was just bringing him some dinner and the way that the the way that the bar was set up was that we walked in the front door immediately and it was almost kind of like a shotgun house.

00:12:13 Speaker 4

Not really the you would walk in the front door and then there was another.

00:12:17 Speaker 4

Doorway directly in front of you and you would you could like walk all the way straight to the back porch if that makes sense, but you would have to walk sort.

00:12:27 Speaker 4

Of through the.

00:12:28 Speaker 4

Kitchen, so I'm walking through the bar.

00:12:33 Speaker 4

Turn a small corner to drop his dinner on a table and in the corner of my eye I see a woman heading towards the small office and she's just she's wearing.

00:12:51 Speaker 4

All black

00:12:53 Speaker 4

And the office area would have been like where a laundry area might have been.

00:13:00 Speaker 4

You know, before it was turned into a bar, now there was a woman.

00:13:05 Speaker 4

That was working at this bar at this time, who I thought was really cool, but she didn't want anything to do with me and I was like I'm gonna make her my friend.

00:13:18 Speaker 4

So I'm walking.

00:13:19 Speaker 4

And she, she sort of had to pinch it like.

00:13:21 Speaker 4

She had dark.

00:13:22 Speaker 4

Hair like dress, kind of goth and stuff like that.

00:13:26 Speaker 4

So as I'm walking through the bar and dropping off this.

00:13:31 Speaker 3

Bag of food I see.

00:13:33 Speaker 4

Who I think is shanae out of the corner of my eye and I.

00:13:37 Speaker 4

Was like I've got her.

00:13:38 Speaker 4

Trapped to make her talk to.

00:13:40 Speaker 4

Me, you know, like I'm gonna I am going to say hello and so I turned.

00:13:45 Speaker 4

I was like hey shinae and and nothing I didn't hear anything she just walked into the into the office and it was it's close quarter so I was like.

00:13:54 Speaker 4

Oh my God, she's just ignored me again.

00:13:58 Speaker 4

What the heck?

00:13:58 Speaker 4

And so I turn around, take you.

00:14:01 Speaker 4

Know go back.

00:14:02 Speaker 4

To go back through the bar and I look.

00:14:06 Speaker 4

Across the like, Catty corner across to the complete other side of the building where the stage.

00:14:13 Speaker 4

Is and there is shinay.

00:14:16 Speaker 4

Probably 40 or 50 feet away.

00:14:19 Speaker 4

Like there's no way she could have gotten from the office to the complete other side of the building without us crossing paths, we would have had to use.

00:14:30 Speaker 4

The same hallway.

00:14:31 Speaker 4

And I got.

00:14:32 Speaker 4

You know, I I got to the corner of the bar and the owner was like you look like you've seen a ghost and.

00:14:38 Speaker 4

I was like.

00:14:40 Speaker 4

Well, that's funny.

00:14:40 Speaker 4

You say that and I told him what it had just happened.

00:14:45 Speaker 4

And he was like.

00:14:47 Speaker 3

Oh yeah, yeah, that's.

00:14:48 Speaker 4

I don't remember the name of the woman he was like, Oh yeah, that's so and so.

00:14:55 Speaker 4

She's she's just back there doing her laundry.

00:14:57 Speaker 4

We see her every now and then and then goes on to tell me this laundry.

00:15:02 Speaker 4

List of other ghost stories about this woman that she's been around ever since.

00:15:08 Speaker 4

He renovated the home to turn it into a bar that she has done everything from shove entire like those big steel trays full of low country, boil off of cooler shelves.

00:15:24 Speaker 4

I mean those things weigh a good 20 pounds.

00:15:28 Speaker 4

At least locked people in closet.

00:15:34 Speaker 4

And he said that every once in a while he'll leave a glass of whiskey out for her to to keep her calm down, because she she is.

00:15:44 Speaker 4

She's not sure about having a bar in her home, but yeah, I was that I.

00:15:50 Speaker 4

I could have sworn that I saw shanay

00:15:53 Speaker 4

Going into the office it looked.

00:15:55 Speaker 4

It looked just like her and it was not.

00:16:01 Speaker 4

After Valdosta I moved to Clemson.

00:16:04 Speaker 4

And I was just living in an apartment and I was like, well, there's probably nothing here.

00:16:08 Speaker 4

And then I moved to another apartment in Charleston.

00:16:10 Speaker 4

I was like, yeah, probably nothing here either.

00:16:14 Speaker 4

And then moved into my current home, which was built in 1940.

00:16:18 Speaker 4

8 and I was like.

00:16:20 Speaker 4

Alright, here we.

00:16:21 Speaker 4

Go, there's gotta be.

00:16:24 Speaker 4

Something around here so far, so far, no.

00:16:28 Speaker 4

Nothing, and we've been in this home for almost 12 years, so so yeah, so I don't know if it was just like a time in my life where I was just more sensitive.

00:16:39 Speaker 4

If I happened to just also be living in places.

00:16:42 Speaker 4

That had more.

00:16:43 Speaker 4

Activity, if it was some combination of the two, but I haven't had any sort of.

00:16:50 Speaker 4

What the sense that I got from the two spirits that I experienced most like personally was not that they really wanted anything other than to just kind of continue their lives in some fashion, you know.

00:17:10 Speaker 4

If I felt like the professor wanted to continue to interact with students, and you know his life was cut short and he he was looking for ways to do that, I feel like the the woman who's no house that was.

00:17:25 Speaker 4

Just trying to stay in her home that she loved and you know that's all she wanted was just to.

00:17:32 Speaker 4

Kind of go about her.

00:17:34 Speaker 4

Her daily business and she didn't want to leave.

00:17:35 Speaker 4

So I think you know curiosity and and thinking.

00:17:38 Speaker 4

About like what what do we?

00:17:42 Speaker 4

What do we really want to get out?

00:17:43 Speaker 4

Of life and.

00:17:44 Speaker 4

And how we might?

00:17:46 Speaker 4

Continue those patterns or want to continue those patterns afterwards.

00:17:53 Speaker 2

Again, we are back with a dream situation where there's sort of a spiritual connection happening.

00:18:04 Speaker 2

I love that story that Lauren shared about seeing the man in her dream and then sort of finding out who it was later.

00:18:12 Speaker 2

You know we we just talked to.

00:18:12 Speaker 3

That's what she found out who he was, yes.

00:18:13 Speaker 2

A lot of people.

00:18:15 Speaker 2

I'm blowing and also like kind of a satisfying ending too, and not having to like always wonder like.

00:18:23 Speaker 2

Who the heck was?

00:18:24 Speaker 2

That you know, is it someone I just like pass in a grocery store and they happen to be in my dream.

00:18:28 Speaker 2

Where you know you have dreams like that where you're.

00:18:32 Speaker 2

Like who the hell was that?

00:18:34 Speaker 3

Oh 100%.

00:18:36 Speaker 2

But we always.

00:18:36 Speaker 2

Talk to so many people that have like sort of dream experiences so I love to hear about those.

00:18:42 Speaker 3

I know who knew that so many people had dreams that were like reality, and I mean I don't.

00:18:53 Speaker 2

I have dreams sometimes, but it's like very sporadic like I'll have a couple nights of dreams and then it'll be like a couple of months before.

00:19:01 Speaker 2

I really have a dream where I remember it.

00:19:03 Speaker 2

You know what I mean?

00:19:05 Speaker 3

Yeah, I I don't remember mine usually every now and then I I will, but they're never good and they're never like prolific or or anything like that.

00:19:18 Speaker 3

They're all.

00:19:19 Speaker 3

They're always very like dumb and stupid.

00:19:21 Speaker 2

Well and usually.

00:19:22 Speaker 3

Sometimes I wake up crying.

00:19:24 Speaker 2

Yeah, those are always.

00:19:25 Speaker 2

Interesting where you wake up and you're still sort of like experiencing whatever's in happening in the dream like your emotions.

00:19:33 Speaker 3

Dreams are definitely weird.

00:19:35 Speaker 2

Yes, and I.

00:19:36 Speaker 2

Have had some that have like sort of stuck with.

00:19:38 Speaker 2

Me like.

00:19:39 Speaker 2

Weird things that happened in the dream that I still like.

00:19:43 Speaker 2

Think about today.

00:19:45 Speaker 3

100% I couldn't. I can remember this dream very vividly.

00:19:50 Speaker 3

And I could have sworn a as a young child that I had it multiple times, but I'm not really sure.

00:19:56 Speaker 3

But it was me.

00:20:00 Speaker 3

And my mom, we were at my dad's house and my mom and dad were divorced so there was really no reason for her to be.

00:20:07 Speaker 3

At that house.

00:20:08 Speaker 3

I remember her saying we need to get down in this like cellar area because this guy was coming and he had a huge like jacked up truck and he was like coming to like.

00:20:20 Speaker 3

Like kill us or something along those lines and I remember we went down this tunnel to hide and then I would wake up and I swear I had it multiple times because I would remember it so vividly and I had to be maybe like 10.

00:20:35 Speaker 3

The first time I had the dream.

00:20:35

That's so weird.

00:20:37 Speaker 2

The last one I had.

00:20:38 Speaker 3

Well, that's I'm not sure what that had.

00:20:40 Speaker 3

To do with anything.

00:20:42 Speaker 2

No, just like a drain.

00:20:43 Speaker 2

That sort of like sticks with.

00:20:44 Speaker 2

You that you know you still remember.

00:20:46 Speaker 2

I definitely have some like that that are a little more bizarre and scary, so I'm not gonna share them, but I had one recently that like woke me up after it.

00:20:59 Speaker 2

And it was sort of like, you know, obviously.

00:21:01

It was in the body.

00:21:02

I I I.

00:21:03 Speaker 2

Don't remember like every detail of it.

00:21:05 Speaker 2

I just remember sort.

00:21:06 Speaker 2

Of like the scariest moment.

00:21:10 Speaker 2

And obviously, like our podcast, we talk about ghosts and stuff.

00:21:13 Speaker 2

Like that so in the dream, I don't know.

00:21:15 Speaker 2

If we were recording a podcast.

00:21:17 Speaker 2

But it was something like ghost related and we were in this like.

00:21:22 Speaker 2

It wasn't a closet it.

00:21:23 Speaker 2

Was kind of like a.

00:21:26 Speaker 2

A seller situation.

00:21:27 Speaker 2

I don't know.

00:21:28 Speaker 2

It was weird like it was dark all around us and it was me and you.

00:21:32 Speaker 2

And we we were looking at this video on a phone.

00:21:36 Speaker 2

So you know when it's really dark around you and you have your phone out.

00:21:38 Speaker 2

And obviously the light is really bright.

00:21:40 Speaker 2

You can't really like see any detail of what's around you.

00:21:44 Speaker 2

And before this happened in the dream.

00:21:50 Speaker 2

I had gotten this weird.

00:21:51 Speaker 2

Phone call it was like a voice message or something and it was just this girl and I can't remember who it was or like why?

00:21:58 Speaker 2

But she made this weird sound and it was kind of like the sound that the girl from the ring makes or like something like.

00:22:04

Oh yeah.

00:22:06 Speaker 2

Yes, and first of all, first of all the grudge.

00:22:08 Speaker 4

The grids.

00:22:10 Speaker 2

Yeah, first of all in the dream like that had already scared me in the dream like I already had this anxious feeling.

00:22:17 Speaker 2

And then we're in this dark area.

00:22:19 Speaker 2

We're like looking at this cell phone and it's like we're trying to see what this person sent us.

00:22:25 Speaker 2

It was like a video and I.

00:22:26 Speaker 2

Think it was supposed to be like?

00:22:27 Speaker 2

A ghost or something they captured, and then we're looking at it like nothing's happening and all of a sudden I look up and there's like these faces around us.

00:22:35 Speaker 2

And then I wake up from the dream, but it was like the anxiety I had when.

00:22:39 Speaker 2

I woke up.

00:22:41 Speaker 2

I was sweating.

00:22:44 Speaker 3

I mean, it's just like, yeah, and I thought about it for days after that.

00:22:47 Speaker 3

Like the feeling that I had in the dream and isn't it crazy that even when like dreams can be not super scary or not super sad like in the dream you're really, really sad or you're really really scared and like.

00:23:00 Speaker 2

Yeah, like your emotions are very heightened.

00:23:03 Speaker 4
