Unknown Speaker  0:15
Hey, and welcome to

Unknown Speaker  0:19
another.

Unknown Speaker  0:20
I'm Mike. And I'm Jess. Reverse. Yeah threw you off there, didn't we? Ah ha ha ha.

Unknown Speaker  0:29
The Count over here. Ah

Unknown Speaker  0:32
I love to count. So hockey's over because the Bruins suck.

Unknown Speaker  0:39
You know? It happens chars old to go had better things to do with life.

Unknown Speaker  0:46
So now we're on to football Mike's piece to resistance food bowl.

Unknown Speaker  0:54
Yeah. The the new America's pastime because baseball is irrelevant now.

Unknown Speaker  1:00
more

Unknown Speaker  1:02
boring baseball, why don't you tell us how many fantasy leagues you were in? Um, actually this year? Very few compared to years past? What is very few for you, Michael? I think it's seven.

Unknown Speaker  1:15
It is seven. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker  1:19
Think about whatever. Does she win?

Unknown Speaker  1:24
a bagel tomorrow morning.

Unknown Speaker  1:27
I did max out a couple years ago at 10 leagues. And it was it's a lot. Yeah, I don't know. I just don't really have that much self control when someone like x asked me to join a league. And I'm just like, Yeah, sure. I mean,

Unknown Speaker  1:45
he's in seven leagues, and he wouldn't even let me pick one player for one league. So no, I told you. You could. He's got keeper leagues, Jess. Yeah, this was a dynasty league. And you were doing a rookie draft. And I said, Listen, if you want to pay my entry fee, I literally know what none of that means. I just wanted to pick a player off of their name. And he would not let me even look at his laptop. So.

Unknown Speaker  2:08
But the leaves I'm in have kind of evolved a little bit over the years.

Unknown Speaker  2:14
I think only one of them requires a kicker now so that's good because kickers are annoying and then a lot of them are dynasty leagues. So you have like the same players every year. You can keep a certain number of players and then trading draft picks. A lot more intricate, intricate, and interesting. It's like this is like a full time job. I mean, just go ahead and GM a team I wish friggin crazy. I don't know how he I did DraftKings like once. And I couldn't even keep up with it for a fucking summer like little. That was something on you told me on our first day. to draft Yeah, you're like, Oh, I love DraftKings. I liked it. And then I then after we started dating you you never did it. Because you didn't you don't watch sports or football. And just watch hockey. Right? You're not? I mean, you're not a football person. Yeah, well, DraftKings has like every sport, you know, there's fanduel too. It was really only football that I knew enough about Yeah, every team and people and things like that now I probably do know more about hockey and people. Hockey people. Yeah.

Unknown Speaker  3:24
I feel bad because I've taken you from your passions.

Unknown Speaker  3:28
Someone Yeah, don't argue with that. Well, but

Unknown Speaker  3:34
I mean, we also don't have TV so it's not like I can just sit here on a Sunday watch all the football games because which I would totally do if we had TV but we don't so CBS all access now. Gives me like what one your watch the past.

Unknown Speaker  3:52
Speaking of change, we got portable, changing room. That was our segue. Speaking of change, we have a changing room so you guys don't have to change in the VM anymore. Shout out to Brandon Phillips.

Unknown Speaker  4:08
Yeah, not that changing in the van is that bad, but this thing is cool. You just like flip it, and it becomes a tent. Yeah, it's like a pop up. Little Yes, single person changing room. It's really neat for multiple reasons because it's easy for us to just carry on. Shoot for you guys to change in the middle of the woods rather than behind a tree.

Unknown Speaker  4:30
Yeah, this is for on our engagement sessions when we like to have a couple different outfits for couples to wear. It's also great if we're on a long drive and I decided I have to pee and there's nowhere around because COVID is closed everything. I can just set up this tent on the side of the road. Pee and get back in this

Unknown Speaker  4:48
does not have well it does have a bottom but it does. You have to attach it so you can leave the bottom off and dislike p wherever. Yeah, and then fold it up and go. Yeah. If this happens

Unknown Speaker  5:00
We promise we'll hose it down. Yeah, but well you don't pee on the tank. Oh, just my I'm not peeing on the tank. I would expect you to put it in my Insta story though because pretty much everybody already knows that I'm like an excessive beer.

Unknown Speaker  5:16
So I definitely expect that if we're using the tent on the side of the road that Mike's gonna live streaming in our

Unknown Speaker  5:24
live stream. I was saying that if we don't stake the thing down it's just gonna blow your

Unknown Speaker  5:30
head and right I was trying to make a

Unknown Speaker  5:34
live stream mike got it. See? I'm just more subtle with my puns. I don't change the pitch you call you call it subtle or

Unknown Speaker  5:47
I'd like you to finish your sentence please

Unknown Speaker  5:51
know

Unknown Speaker  5:54
who we talking to today, Shannon

Unknown Speaker  5:58
beauty

Unknown Speaker  6:08
I am skin in the lane in ima holistic esthetician and clean beauty makeup artist. That's a mouthful.

Unknown Speaker  6:19
So the holistic part means that I take a kind of grander look at the body when it comes to skincare. So I get really involved in like diet and lifestyle and kind of like

Unknown Speaker  6:32
like mental well being I am Reiki certified. So I do work with like energy. And I kind of implement all of my knowledge with all of that to work with this skin with any you know, conditions like low xisha acne type things like I just kind of look at everything, as opposed to just like this skincare product someone's using it is that kind of the difference between like a makeup artist and an aesthetician? Yeah, definitely an aesthetician is doing facials, waxing, like list extensions like lash extensions. And then a makeup artist is simply like applying makeup. Whether it's like a maternity night out or like bridal, which I do all of that. So I'm in a salon and then I offer almost all those services.

Unknown Speaker  7:20
And then clean beauty and the makeup portion just means I use organic makeup and I focus on a natural look. So how did you get into this business? I got started by working at lush cosmetics. And they had really extensive training in skincare in they do use like natural ingredients ethically sourced. And so I was really immersed in it kind of on accident I had applied to there in Sephora, but at the time, Sephora didn't really have people with colored hair or tattoos and I was already tattooed. So I went with lush, because they did have women that were tattooed and like people that were tattooed and had colored hair so I knew I fit in better.

Unknown Speaker  7:59
I love lush. So I walk into that store. And I literally I'm like Hello, just Yeah, I love everybody is so nice and friendly every time that we're there and then, you know Evan is like Oh god, they're talking to her. She's getting more products in her hands. And I'm like, I love this. I like I like Elon Musk.

Unknown Speaker  8:22
Yeah, that's how I fell in love too. I I realized I really loved working with skincare and haircare. And at the time, I was a manager so I was teaching other people how to sell it. But it was like old bummed me out because I wanted to be the one selling it. I wanted to implement my knowledge and that's kind of when I started looking into aesthetics. And like as opposed to like the retail Avenue. Yeah, right now you are a brand rep what Who are you brand rep for and what does that mean? We call it brand ambassador for aislin Cosmetics, which is a an organic makeup company, actually locally on the started in Amesbury, Massachusetts. I think their headquarters is now in New Hampshire, but they are local, what is really kind of special about their products, compared to like just general makeup that you like, maybe buy at Target or something. Yeah, so they do use certified organic ingredients. So all of the ingredients are listed on the back end completely like on Fedora. It's like you can say all the names, um, it's also in my opinion, good for your skin ingredients like a lot of like the foundation has like aloeswood Super soothing rosemary and tea tree which are good for fighting acne. So there's this misconception of like, makeup actually being detrimental to people that have acne whereas I feel like Azan actually has a foundation that would assist with acne, it absolutely wouldn't like get rid of it but it wouldn't harm it. It would it would be like soothing and feel good on the skin. So how do brides go about booking with you for for makeup trials and then you know potentially for like weddings and

Unknown Speaker  10:00
Like that.

Unknown Speaker  10:01
I do work with a company on their called lady Lux beauty. And then I also have just started kind of doing it through the salon because I do have a hairstylist that likes to do bridal as well. So there's like two avenues. I mostly direct people to my website, because then I can go through either avenues from there depending on what they're looking for. Because there are limitations with like, say the bridal company, you have to have a minimum of six people. But for me, I like doing intimate weddings. I'll go to you know, city hall and do like just one bride like I don't mind doing small, more intimate. I think it's really fun. And I love getting to know people. So I can do it a different couple different ways, because I'm more willing to do you know, different vital signs. Yeah, yeah. So we did that styled, shoot together. How did you kind of get into doing that it's like a good practice for the full wedding days and stuff like that. Very, very good practice. So I was lucky, I met a woman when I was in esthetics school, who already had an established makeup company, so to Sarah, and she brought me on her shoot in her weddings as an assistant. And I would help her with doing people's makeup and just like learning and I meet a lot of contacts, like the wedding designer, Lillian like, I met her. And so when I wanted to do a style shoots really showcase my wedding style and bridal style, I just started reaching out to people. And you know, if people were willing, like awesome, like you guys, like I just kind of reach out in, see if people also want to participate. And then it kind of just came together from there. I really love our style shoots it, we are gives us a chance to be creative, and you know, a little bit of time that maybe don't have on a wedding day. So you're just trying to get stuff done that we can kind of think outside the box, you can use it to try out some new techniques or something like that, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely less pressure because you're obviously you know, creating a look on like their most important day, we're in a styled shoot. It's almost like my important day because I'm able to, like create the looks that I want and showcase and I feel like it's a lot of creativity, like creatively wise, it's a lot more fun. Yeah, no more fun. I really love weddings. Those are really fun to me to like creatively, I just get to explore a little more. Yeah, so what other types of work do you do? I know that you kind of mentioned paternity and things like that. I pretty much will do anything. I've I've done people's like headshots for their website, because with my natural style of makeup people really feel like themselves. Because I try to make it almost like just like your best skin day versus like someone who is wearing makeup. So yeah, maternity headshots, I've had someone pop in because they were going to a barbecue, and they just wanted their makeup done. And I was like cool, let's do it.

Unknown Speaker  12:52
I think that's awesome. And then it does again that comes back to one of the things that I really like about your style is that it's not overly heavy and overly done Are you know, brides still look like themselves on the day of their wedding and not like a completely different person then you know, they look like every other day of their life. So I think that that's and I feel lucky that I have that ability because like more power to people like there's definitely an unusual like that style of makeup and I'm so thankful that there are rights that want my style because it's not that I'm unable to do a heavy makeup application I just simply don't want to it's it's just it doesn't make sense to me to keep adding and adding I feel like I'm able to create the look people want without so much makeup. So I love it there is like that space for me in the industry to like people that want that. I think we're getting to more natural brides too. I think that's kind of a trend that we're growing in with boho and things like that. And yeah, it's and everything we're getting like a more natural vibe to brides and I love that. So

Unknown Speaker  13:56
any advice for brides or people that are interested in makeup or skincare in general? I think ask a lot of questions. I think if if people are like me like estheticians and makeup artists, I love genuinely talking about it. Like I welcome questions. Like if I see a Facebook group and someone's asked a skincare question or make a question, I will answer. So I feel like ask as many questions as you want on to really feel comfortable to learn about your skin. I feel like sometimes the things that like I talked about have become so normal to me that like getting to share it with somebody where maybe it's not as obvious is really amazing. Especially with skincare because I feel like there's so many marketing trends versus like what's actually good for your skin. I think that there's a lot to be learned, you know, something that's being advertised

Unknown Speaker  14:46
from the drugstore or from like someone famous who isn't actually an aesthetician and creating new skincare lines. There's this marketing of like wanting to buy that and wanting to own like this gorgeous packaging, but it not being suited for your skin and you're not getting that education.

Unknown Speaker  15:00
Because it's the person behind it, it isn't their goal, per se. If it's getting your skin clean, that's kind of just their goal. Yeah, I think that's really important. I learned a lot from Tick Tock I hate to say, but it's like, tick tock opened up a world of like, new skincare things for me to learn about. And it's been very, very useful. So that's been fun, an interesting,

Unknown Speaker  15:24
I love that your skincare talk is fun, I think, um, you can definitely learn a lot, I think, again, looking for people that are licensed in it versus someone that just is like the ordinary, you know, nothing. That's a good brand, like for sure, like, I've used stuff from it, but I feel like people kind of get into these like, like, I don't know, certain categories of makeup brands that they just want to promote because it's popular, versus like, what is good for everybody. Because sometimes, like the most simple is good for somebody, even if you want to be trendy, like my sensitive skin people like unfortunately, you've got to go with what you know works for you versus and cut out dairy because I've noticed that that's helped with my skin a lot. So I've taken nutritional skincare and unfortunately, especially dairy specifically in this country, the way it's processed with hormones. It is a big issue is actually why I see acne in kids as young as like 11. You know, there may not even have their menstrual cycle yet, you know, so it's not hormonal acne, it's literally because their bodies can't process all of like, the sugar in the dairy in you know, there's cheese, milk, yogurt, like all these things that are good for you for maybe like protein or the probiotics. But in such a large amount. I think people kind of don't realize they're consuming so much. And it does it affects the skin greatly. Yeah, that's one of the biggest things I've noticed since starting my dairy free journey was that it was like, oh, like, I still get a break out here there. But it's not like as bad as before or if I eat something that has dairy in it. And then the next day, I'm like, Oh my God, look at my face. So it's like,

Unknown Speaker  16:59
definitely noticed that so at least cut out dairy before your wedding, you guys.

Unknown Speaker  17:04
Yes, I would say that's probably a really good one. Especially actually in thinking of like, I'm gonna get a little gross but like mucus in the throat like even a speaking a lot that day. That's probably good to cut out before as well. Yeah. Well, thank you so much for talking with us. Absolutely. Thanks for calling guys. Of course. Thank you. Bye bye. little session by me.

Unknown Speaker  18:32
It was actually very informative learned a lot about how skincare Yeah, go a long way when talking about makeup and stuff. I feel like it's really easy. I know for me at least to get pulled into like Instagram videos. It's like, Oh, I need that stuff. That's Yeah, rip out all my blackheads and it's like, but is it really? So? consult your estheticians? Yes. Oh, that's what they're there for. Always consult professionals cut out your dairy.

Unknown Speaker  19:03
Maybe not a lot, but maybe a little. So what's next time? The season finale.

Unknown Speaker  19:12
