Here we go.
SPEAKER_04All right. Now we're live. Serious and silliness bodybuilding, shooting the breeze. Me, Lee Priest, and Big Sid. We got we're waiting for two others, but let's see if they show up. Who knows? Uh you know who I spoke to over the weekend? And I'm hoping that uh he comes on because I know he said he's going back to the UK. Lewis Breed. Oh, okay. He's he's a good guy, Lewis. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I actually I actually contacted uh Paul Lazand because he's uh he's a uh IFGB judge, and I asked, I you know, I wanted him to come on, but he's like, you know, I really shouldn't come on because uh they don't want judges to run on podcasts and whatnot. So I said, okay, I get it, no problem. So I asked him about uh Lewis Breed and I asked him about uh Tim Boudishane, and it basically they were just saying his structure there, they're they just don't like their structure. And I'm like, I I could I could see Tim Boudishane's structure, I could see that, but but um oh look, it's Aaron. What's up, guys? What's up, dude? But uh Lewis Breed's structure. I don't know. Sid are you familiar with uh Lewis Breed?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I know Lewis a little bit. I saw some of his photos. He looked what do they call him? Uh brick. Brick, yeah, the brick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well good.
SPEAKER_05I didn't get to see a whole lot of what I was busy as shit, but I I saw him and a few of the other ones, but uh I don't know, he looked fucking great to me. But yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Aaron, why do you think Lewis Breed gets no love? You know, I have to look at I did I'm not like putting the physique to I think they had him sixth or seventh in in Texas.
SPEAKER_04You know, I don't I don't know why he doesn't get any love.
SPEAKER_05I don't get it, but do you know I don't know if his mic was Mike working or something?
SPEAKER_04But uh yeah, he can't uh that I forgot the guy's name that came in fifth. He's got a strange name, but what is Lewis Breed's uh what you said? What do you think, uh Lee? Why do you think he gets no fucking love? I don't I don't understand.
SPEAKER_01He comes in conditioning, his grainy is conditioning, you know. I can say he looks blocky and something maybe, but still it's like at what point are we gonna get over? Yes, some bodybuilders are symmetrical, some are a bit blockier, some are a bit more square, like couple of east-quarter fridge back in the day, but he did okay. I don't I don't know because like his overall map size-wise and conditioning, he looks great. So who knows whether it's one of those even pay your fucking dudes, wait your turn. In in bodybuilding, you never you never know what the judges think after time. So I don't know because it looks great to me, so I don't get it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I could I can't really put my finger on it. Like I said, I talked to Paul Lazan, he said it's a structure thing, but uh, I really just can't put my finger on why he gets no love. I didn't think he was gonna come, he either came in sixth or seventh. I don't remember. I thought he was gonna at least break the top five, but no, he didn't because the lineup wasn't nearly as stacked as Atlanta and um and uh Tampa. Let's see if uh Rich has any input.
SPEAKER_01Um I'm just kidding. I'm like shooting out some idiots calls Rich.
SPEAKER_04Can you flip your phone around so we could see you? Oh, there you go.
SPEAKER_05Is that Paul uh Fuad's buddy? Is that who we're talking about?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I'm not yeah, he's a good, he's actually a pretty good dude. I like Paul.
SPEAKER_04Paul Lazan is a great guy, he's an absolutely great guy. He um I could fully understand why he doesn't want to come on because you know uh he probably get they probably get a lot of shit from the IFBB uh uh going on podcasts and talking about you know the judging criteria because that's what I wanted him to come on for. But uh Rich, why do you think why do you think Lewis Breed gets no love?
SPEAKER_00It's tough to say to be honest. Like nothing personal. Um I I heard he's a good guy, it's just I don't feel he's out there um spreading uh uh I guess uh positivity or just be out to really. I don't know. To be honest, like I don't want to assume in this industry it's you're you're always good as your last show, but depends on who you're circle and who you run with, right?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I just can't put my finger on it. I mean I mean, listen, Patrick definitely does not spread positivity.
SPEAKER_00No, no, but exactly. But you look at it as okay, put that aside, and at the end of the day, it's a bodybuilding show, right? So you want to put aesthetics, you want to put uh your bicep into the side. Forget what they say and what they do when it gets down to that point, but it it has some bearing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, what do you think, Aaron? Did you get a chance to look out?
SPEAKER_02I I don't know exactly who you're talking about, I can guess. Um but I I was trying to pull it up. I don't know his Instagram handle though. I got it. I'll pull him up. Hold on, let me see. But just based on what you're saying, and based on what I have been seeing, I and just on the past few shows, I feel like what is I can hear John and I can hear Lee. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I can't hear the other guys.
SPEAKER_02Go ahead, Aaron. Sorry, can you hear me? Yeah, um, I feel like they place the small waist and aesthetics above muscle mass.
SPEAKER_04I don't know that's what it seems like. Here he is. You can you see that, Aaron?
SPEAKER_02I mean he looks freaking. I I didn't air, you know, he's dense and grainy, and his waist isn't terrible, but yeah, he's you know, he's more blocky. And uh yeah, it I feel that the judging just they don't favor these this type of bodybuilder now, and and I don't really know why. Part of me wants to think that just because of what a smash hit classic has been, if you're trying to push bodybuilding in that direction, I don't really agree with it because it's its own thing, and I think you should have a place for the more freaky, big, you know, massive bodybuilders. Um, but just just based on my observation of the shows this year, that's what it seems like. Not every but for the most part, like they give the nod to the small waist, not this.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I uh I uh I agree. Um, I mean all right, let's get to the uh the elephant in the room. Lee, what do you think? You think they should have given it?
SPEAKER_03Let's get to the elephant in the room and talk about this. Oh, Jesus Christ. Did you see that? Go ahead, put it on.
SPEAKER_04What the hell is Lee has all kinds of sponsors and people that send him shit? And I don't even know what it is. Iron Man, not combat mode. That's iron man now. That's gotta be an evil Iron Man. Iron Man's is is gold and red.
SPEAKER_05I don't I don't know what all the names are. That's just Iron Man.
SPEAKER_03Oh Jarvis Close suit.
SPEAKER_04That's Jarvis. All right, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Hold on. This is actually really good. Then we'll get back to bodybuilding. Hold on. Lee, can we tell them what you're doing to your truck?
SPEAKER_01Uh my truck is getting wrapped with Darth Vader. Is going to be on the hood with the lightsaber and on the back and down the sides, has the Death Star and the Thai fighters all fighting, shoot lasers at each other. Sorry, Jarvis, I'm not talking to you. Shut down backup power. Thank you. That's what's happening to the thing. Jarvis, close suit.
SPEAKER_04Go ahead. Tell us about your your your truck before we get up back onto bodybuilding.
SPEAKER_01Jarvis. Open suit. And so it's getting all wrapped and stuff, so it should look pretty good in uh a couple of days. Uh, because my grill that I have on it almost looks like a sport vehicle. And the new metal grill I put in the car looks like Darth Vader's mask. So I decided to make the whole car Wars theme, but I've got to thank Hero Slash for sending this out. They're sending me two more an Optimus Prime one. So Hero Slash Official on Instagram for all your great toy needs.
SPEAKER_04Okay, great. Slash official. Now, here's what I'm getting at with the wrap on the car. Lee will not buy a t-shirt. Uh he gets all the shirts sent to him. He but he he buys t-shirts from Target if he has to buy anything. Yeah. He doesn't. He buys the cheapest sneakers you can buy, he buys the cheapest t-shirts he can buy. Um, and he makes fun of people that will buy like an expensive watch or expensive sneakers, right? But uh, can we tell them how much it costs to wrap your uh your truck in Star Wars?
SPEAKER_01About six thousand, John. But you know what? The wrap protects the paint, and you know what, John, because it's a business vehicle, the wrap is a business wrap, you know, company logo, because uh we'll have um crucifix in the wrap somewhere on top later tape, so it's tax deductible, John.
SPEAKER_04Valid point, valid point. All right, okay. Now that we got past that. All right. Well, let's start with more of a reasonable human being here. Aaron. That's me. Yeah, do you do you think great pressure's on, pressure's on. Do you think they should have given it to Patrick or were you leaning toward Regan?
SPEAKER_02I mean, you you heard what I just said, right? Yeah. Yeah, I know. Um when I look at the two, I think I would have leaned towards Reagan personally. He's bigger, he's a little more complete to me. Yeah, and it's not a knock on Patrick. Patrick is phenomenal. He's finally, you know, the first shows he was doing this year, he was coming in pretty soft. He's finally coming in good, crisp, and it's great to see, you know, so it's not all the love there, but like I don't know, I it's not something where I'm like, what the fuck, you know, like but I'm like, huh. It just it just further um validates what I was just saying, right? About the like who has the smaller waist? That's right. Yeah, like uh we were when I was on here before it was James and uh God, what's his name? The guy who James.
SPEAKER_04Uh James and Tabani or James Tabani. Okay, yeah. Right. By the way, he got his VZ coming to the uh but to me this is kind of that not maybe that drastic, but it's that again, right?
SPEAKER_02Right, right, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Rich, what do you think? Would you what did you think about the call?
SPEAKER_00Okay, well, I'm gonna I'm gonna put on a little rant first. First off, I have to say I don't understand the judging criteria. It's a bodybuilding show, I get that, but then we have judges who never been on an elite stage, don't have an IV control card, but yet you're judging these top shows. I get the criteria, you go through um uh industry expertise and you've been at shows and that, but you don't know what a prep is like. Never been to the trenches of of computing and all that stuff. So it leads me to my point. When I look at those two, I look at the bodybuilding. The first thing I say to myself is what is bodybuilding? Complete body part. If I look at Patrick, great aesthetic looks good, but let's break it down to his bodybuilding show by points. No calves, no hamstrings, no glutes compared to Regan. Upper body, proportion looks very good. But if you go part for part, I don't see how Patrick wins those dominant shots, and you and you make a one-point difference. So you had him winning from the beginning. I wanted to see the comparison. I just gave what shot does Patrick beat Regan handedly say that's dominant. Yes, it was a close show. I agree with Aaron in regards to waste does determine a factor, but I'm looking at overall balance, symmetry, density. My eyes were just drawn to Regan, Patrick because green abs, but my decision choice, not because I I know the guy, I just I'm being biased. I I would have given it to Regan just before for what I see for the bodybuilding terminology. That's just my point of view.
SPEAKER_04Sid, did you watch it at all?
SPEAKER_05I did. I'm biased. Regan's a friend, I would have given it to him.
SPEAKER_01Are we all just ignoring the elephant in the room and those fucking flashing red lights behind fucking? I'm hiding behind rich. Yeah, behind rich. Didn't you see all those red lights flashing behind you?
SPEAKER_04I thought you would have been like crazy shit over there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with couple of fires in the square lights in the cast. The only thing I can see, because I thought they might have gone with Regan cause of his structure, but the only thing I can think of was I was hoping Regan might have been a bit more improved from the week before, which I don't think he really was. He looked to me coming by videos and photos, he looked almost the same, whereas Patrick has been improving. And I think each show these last one, Patrick's always got a little bit better. So maybe just seeing that slight improvement on Patrick and none on Regan might have just edged it. That's the only thing I can think of because I thought overall structure Sean Regan and that. But of course, Patrick, I mean, being improving and Regan came in almost the same. I think they went for Patrick instead.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, uh, my opinion, Regan, it's a at the end of the day, it's a bodybuilding show, and I would have went with Regan because he's just bigger and he has more muscle mass. He he wasn't like I don't think he was a hundred percent Regan, but then again, we really never seen appealed Regan. I wasn't upset that they gave it to Patrick because Patrick looked phenomenal. You gotta kind of give it to Patrick as far as his ninth show, wasn't it? This was ninth show this year. That's that's fucking impressive, and he got better with every fucking show, you know, basically, right? Um, and now he's going to the Olympia. Uh, so you gotta give credit where credit is due. But I would have gotten I would have given it to Regan, Regan's doing Austria, isn't he?
SPEAKER_01Who's the lineup for the episode? Is that Juan in or Juan or what's his name? Is he around?
SPEAKER_04I actually have the lineup with me right now. It's not uh a deep lineup at all. So we got uh Juan Perel, uh Perel's uh Paradell's, whatever his name is. Yeah, he was the favorite to win, but now you got Regan Grimes is in it. You got John Jewett in it. You have another uh another really good European bodybuilder, Damian Kufel. He's he's Polish. And then everybody else is kind of Amir American, is is in it, he's he's pretty good. Um then everybody else is just basically you know second, third tier European bodybuilders. So it's Regan Shorter lose, basically. Exactly. Yeah, it should be Regan Schwartz, but I would not sleep on this kid, John Perdellza. If he comes in, he's got he's got he is a great, great bodybuilder. And if John Jewitt comes in harder than he did at Texas, he's no joke either, man.
SPEAKER_01Really, but uh is it just John Stewart's shape they put him down? Is it because he's yeah, looks a little blocky too, a little bit, but uh conditioning wise and size-wise, he looks great.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's his shape, but you can clearly see it as his shape. What do you think? Um Aaron, what do you think of John Jewitt as far as his uh shape? And to me, he's got to come in 100% peeled in order for them to like really uh give him any kind of success on stage.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I think all right, like we were just you just said about Patrick, you gotta give him credit. He did nine shows. But for I think the first half of those he wasn't ready for, definitely not you know what I mean, but but he he he did pretty good because the structure carries him, yeah, you know, um, and so then he shows appealed and he's rewarded uh because he does have that structure. Somebody like a John Jewitt, you can't you can't play the game like that for him, right? And like I I can relate more to that. Uh most that's the truth for most people, but uh yeah, his uh you know his aesthetics and shape aren't gonna care, you know. That's not what he's gonna win over. He needs to be nailed. Yeah. It is what it is. That's all you can do is just keep showing up like that, and hopefully someone else is not, right? And then you can still lie down there.
SPEAKER_04Rich, what do you think? Give me your opinion on John Jewitt. I'm not a huge John Jewitt fan because of his structure, but go ahead.
SPEAKER_00I I second that um great guy, but if you ask my my opinion, structure doesn't do nothing for me. It's just blocky. It's not something I'd be like, oh, I want to look like that. That's just my take. Um yeah, put him side by side. I I can't see him in that show. To be honest.
SPEAKER_04I wanted to pull up this guy, because this guy everybody's sleeping on, he's a Polish bodybuilder, uh, Damian Kufel. I think he won a show last year, right after the Olympia. If I'm maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. But look at this guy. He is really seems to be really good. Now, I'm not saying he's gonna win, but I'm saying I don't think anybody should sleep on him.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, this guy.
SPEAKER_04This was Romania came in third.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he was pretty big, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and he's he's standing next to Andrew Jack. Yeah, big, really fucking big. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Are the legs are the legs matching up our body? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_04Let me see. Uh oh, this was uh uh eight hours ago. He's definitely in shape, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_01What about that other poor bodybuilder who passed away who competed a week ago?
SPEAKER_04I know that is unbelievable. We'll get to him. I feel uh we're definitely gonna talk about him because he looks good, yeah.
SPEAKER_00He definitely uh well, like I said, people can look good is when you stand beside someone just as good. Right weaknesses really come out, right? So yeah, everybody looks good by themselves.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Right. I I look almost Olympia ready in a hotel room under the right line. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_06All right, we have let's not push it.
SPEAKER_04Uh Sid, did you see the kid that died? Or kid, he's a man, he was 40 years old.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, 40. What what did he do? He just competed what Atlanta? Is that the show?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think he took I believe five or six years off.
SPEAKER_05Uh yeah, I saw a clip of him today that he was saying, you know, that he would disappeared after the show, he got sick, and then he was getting shot out to the uh like what the clinic that he went to. Yeah, he was having trouble breathing or something, didn't he? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he said he came back, he had like um fluid in the lungs. Couldn't we breathe? When you feel shortness of breath, tightness, I'm going to emerge.
SPEAKER_05Like that's just me. I seen a comment that somebody knew him, and he was the clinic, the owner of the clinic was like a friend of his, and he was giving a shout-out to the clinic, and the clinic actually recommended that he needed to go to the ER. Uh that was one of the comments. So uh whether he did or didn't, I don't know. I mean, it doesn't look like he probably did, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_01You know that's that's sometimes our own stupid listeners men think it'll be okay. I'll walk it off. She'll be right.
SPEAKER_05What they give him, antibiotics or something, he probably thought he was gonna be okay in a few days.
SPEAKER_01And that's a combination of just combination of just after the contest, and then it almost sounded like that fucking walking pneumonia where it's just fluid on the lungs and building up and well I said he said he got antibiotics and then he said he gave him a shot of something.
SPEAKER_05Yes, to open up his airway or something. Yeah, yeah, his lungs, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, something about though that You know, it had been five or six years since he competed, and a reason for that was the doctors telling him about his heart. Yeah. Yeah. And so that was the reason that he stepped away.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But then he said he got cleared. Are you ever?
SPEAKER_01I don't think you're I don't think you're ever cured if you have some heart ailment. Like I said, you can love body. Look, I love bodybuilding. But if I got told, listen, Lee, your heart's like this. Look, I'd still live a healthy lifestyle, eat clean, do what exercise I could, but pushing your body, even though when you're in peak condition, the stress on your body in peak condition is a lot. So if you have something that's not right, like a heart or your kidneys and stuff. And remember when Don Long made a come back, I'm like, why, mate? You've been given a second chance. You've had a transplant. Live your life and be happy because they can still train in it, but just change an outlook on life. You know, write a new chapter in your book. So it's sad when you see people do have this passion and they want to come back and do it, but you just know the strain it puts on your heart. Like I said, when you're young and healthy. So as you're getting older, it's not getting any stronger to heart. You know, we all have that, lovers have that athlete's heart. They call it when your heart gets bigger and you think bigger heart, that'd be stronger. No, the bigger the heart gets, the weaker it gets, sadly. So it's sad to see when something like this happens when someone has a passion for the sport. And like I said, I don't want to hear people say, Oh, at least you die doing what you love. But most of the race cars and dragsters, I don't like they said about Dale Earnhardt, he died doing what he loved racing, but I'm sure if he had a choice, he'd rather die in his sleep with family around him. I don't want to die in a car on fire in a fucking crash because I love racing, for fuck's sake.
SPEAKER_04Dwayne, Dwayne Quamina, that was his name. Excuse me. Yeah. Uh you know, bodybuilding is uh I we've talked about this plenty of times, right? I think Aaron Les of you are talking about the bodybuilding is a selfish sport, everything revolves around you. Um, and and it comes a point where like if you are sick, or if you're just not able to, you know, really put yourself in the best shape and out there anymore, and it's or you're not making money, it it it's very it's you gotta be able to tunnel that passion somewhere else. You have to, otherwise, this is this may be the outcome, you know. Um, like I I don't want to speculate. I don't know. He did say doctors said that he was cleared to compete. Um, so I don't know the actual root cause of what happened, uh how he passed. I'm sure we'll find out in a couple of days. But do we do you think we see a lot of young guys dying in the IFBB and women, women and guys. Do you think the IFB should be responsible for any of it? Or is it just, hey, look, these guys, it's up to them. Nobody's putting a gun to their head, they could do what they want, but should there be could should the IFB be doing any kind of look into why these kids are dying so young, or why these girls are dying so young or competitive dying so young?
SPEAKER_01How about the IFB? Maybe just every athlete has to get that, you know, you can get that check on your heart where they do the where they put that contrast in. They do the contrast, the CT scheme. It's like maybe if everyone just has that done every year and the IFB has to get the results, that way, if there's a problem, they can say, hey, it's a bit risky, you can't compete. But then they're going to be like, oh, the IFB won't let me compete, I feel good. But there has to be something where yearly you'll get some yearly check. And if there's something out of whack, they say, hey, maybe sit it out till you get sorted out. But it's hard to say with bodybuilding because things can happen like that. So you might never have an issue, and it could just bang, something could come on overnight. So it's really hard to say when it comes to that. But you should just be self-monitoring anyway for your own safety, not this, I got friends. What I don't know can't hurt me. No, what you don't know can fucking kill you. So get a check.
SPEAKER_04You know what? That is but that is actually a really good idea. Like, it's not like they have to pay for it, it's not like they have medical insurance. But if the IFB just says once a year, you have to go to a cardiologist, you have to get a checkup, and you have to uh send us your blood work, send us all the all the results, um, and we are gonna give you a full warning if you're not healthy, and then it's up to you. But at least the IFBB forces you to actually go and check yourself out. Uh Aaron, what do you think?
SPEAKER_02I know perfect world. But I think bodybuilding, like the IFB is always been bodybuilding, has always been something where they're like, oh, don't take steroids, but we won't look, right? Like it's that's the nature of it, and when it's that type of environment, I don't really know how you can really enforce something like that. Um, and it's already people are already spinning an arm and a leg to like get on stage. If you make people go get these scans and stuff, I'm I'm not saying it's not a good thing. I'm just saying like I can't see a world where the IFBB did something like that and it had a an outcome, like if people were happy about it, you know? I think I think that people surrounding it might be like, oh, that's great, but like the people, I don't know. I to me it seems like uh there's too much like going on that's like we know is going on, but it's not supposed to go on, like to all of a sudden try to enforce something would like really rock the boat. Like, I don't really know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Sid, what do you think? I mean, I I I understand where Aaron's coming from. Yes. But if the IFB actually said, look, you can't compete unless you get A, B, and C checked. We're not saying that the results are going to stop you from competing, but at least you have to know what the risks are here. What do you think, Sid?
SPEAKER_05I think it's it brings up a valid point, but would that put them on the hook for anything? Or they want to deal with the outcomes that opening up a can of worms for them. You know, I understand it definitely sounds you know like a good good idea, but do they want to mess with it? I'm gonna say no. I'm gonna say that they'll be like, oh, that's individual accountability and you gotta do that shit yourself. So it is a double-edged sword, I think. So I would I think for me personally, I think it is a good idea, but getting them to do it. I mean, do you think there's talks about that? I mean, surely there has to be a fucking light bulb come on and say, hey, there's a lot of fucking people dying. There has somebody has to be talking about this shit. You would you would think, wouldn't you?
SPEAKER_04Absolutely. What do you think, Rich?
SPEAKER_00I sort of agree with them. Um if they do it, liability has come to play, right? Liability comes into play. So it's a good idea, but we all know what we find up for, right? We know if the four has become different. So we find up for it. However, with the energy I and uh I'm gonna say millions, I don't know, of money we make somehow to compensate insurance why something happens or reliable for that. Something has to be done at the first thing at the end of the day. Hey, if you preach good health, or if it's preachable, what are you doing after the word into my question?
SPEAKER_04Aaron, when you were competing, was there ever talk about the IFB uh putting together some kind of health insurance or life insurance or anything? No.
SPEAKER_02This is all like uh it's it sounds good. It's very it's very it's like idealism, right? But in this world that we're in bodybuilding, you can say like, yeah, be healthy, but you're what are we rewarding people like nearly killing themselves, right? So it's like how can like it's it's an oxymoron almost. Like you wanna you wanna play, like, well, you need to take care of yourself the best you can, right? But I I I can't see a world where the IFB themselves, it's not like they I mean, you know, I'm not here to talk shit, but I don't think that the IFB really goes out of its way to look after uh the people competing there, you know what I'm saying? Like it is what it is, that's just bodybuilding, and bodybuilders continue to sign up for it and push and and shoot for the awards, and you know why would they do any more?
SPEAKER_01So let's uh how about this? It's even like the blunt force Tanya said, when you look at it, even though it's not called a sport, it is high risk, and you know, it is like you know, an extreme sport when you push your body to that limit and die it down. It is an extreme hobby, whatever you want to call it, sport hobby. Some people say that's not a sport. And sadly, in all extreme sports, there are deaths. You know, people we don't hear about it because we're not in a lot of lots. I'm sure if you're an avid mountain climber or rock climber, that's probably guys falling, women falling off rocks and cliffs every week all the time doing those sports and stuff, or extreme skiers and the ones that climb up those ice mountains. I'm sure they die just as much. But of course, we're not in it, we don't hear it. So sadly, any extreme thing where the humans push our body to the limit, sadly there's going to be death, Sally. And the only way is, like I said, maybe monitor it yourself, take care of it yourself. But when you see it yourself, be smart. Don't be like, well, you know, us bodybuilders, it's okay. I can push it a little bit more. You know, it's like we know when we should've, but we're so big headed that it'll be all right, that won't happen to me type attitude. And sadly, it can happen to anyone.
SPEAKER_04Let's let's take let's take health insurance out of it because this this just popped in my head. Sid, at my job, we're able to get life insurance if we want, and we pay for it. Comes right out of uh my check, right? And it's not much money, it's like whatever it is, like $30 a month or $40 a month, and it's I think it's a hundred thousand dollar life insurance, but they're all levels, you can get all different types and whatever you want.
SPEAKER_01Your wife's waiting to you up it. That's why you're still here, buddy.
SPEAKER_04100,000 ain't quite worth it, yeah. But okay. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So why couldn't the IFBB put something together like that? Well, like, you know, they're not liable about health insurance, but hey, look, um, if you want to have life insurance, you know, I'm sure they could set up something with Prudential or any of these insurance companies, and then you say to your athletes, look, if you guys want to sign up for uh life insurance, here's the part here's the what we have through prudential, and it comes right out of your checking account. You pay for it.
SPEAKER_01But just I just think though, I think with bodybuilding, I think Bob tried to do this back in the when Bob and Sean started. It's not life insurance. Life is just life, though, but life I know they have so many stipulations. I know I wonder if bodybuilding, knowing that you're taking a prohibited drug and you're doing that, that could cancel it because I know if you're a drug user, I know some life insurance, if you're an alcoholic and drink a lot, there's so many stipulations where they won't pay up because your lifestyle. So I wonder sadly, even though training's healthy and eating's healthy, doing the drug side, that might cancel your life insurance like that. It's like that would that look for everything not to pay you if push comes to shove. So yeah.
SPEAKER_04What do you think, Sid? Uh you're right, uh Lee. You're absolutely right. Anything anything through just popped in my head. But what do you think, Sid?
SPEAKER_05Just uh honestly, what Lee just said, the anything they're not want, they're not gonna want to pay, you know. So uh I mean I it bring you bring up a good point, but it's just uh trying to actually put that shit in motion is uh I just I don't think they'd want to you know bring the spotlight to it. It's like bodybuilding. Oh, by the way, we got life insurance. It's like, oh fuck, I might die. Everybody knows it, but you know, you don't want to be looking at a life insurance policy either.
SPEAKER_04About I mean I mean the IFB, look, I don't know the answer, okay? Right, Rich. So this one's few, right? I don't know the answer. All I know is that the IFBB just keeps going and keeps taking money, and they are completely not liable, and they don't seem to give a shit when somebody drops dead. And we have a lot of people dying uh that are competitive bodybuilders for whatever reason. We don't know. It could be something natural, it could be something that they push in the envelope, it could be something that they're sick and they didn't know it. But at this point, Rich, don't you think the IFPB should fucking at least make a statement? Anything, Jesus, something it's been going on for like years.
SPEAKER_00Well, I I agree, it's been going on for years, but we all know the world's model, right? The rich care about the rich and they don't care about the parents. So if they're if they keep on getting money and nothing's broken, why are you trying to reinvent the wheel? Well, why should they go all the way to do something if you're gonna do it?
SPEAKER_04I mean, Jesus Christ, you can't even get a live stream to work right.
SPEAKER_02I don't I don't I don't view the IFUB as an employer either. It definitely isn't. No, it's not, and and so I think what we're talking about here is something that's more of like a union or something, right? But they can't have it, yeah. Yeah, and uh yeah, the fact with the drugs, like the amount that would have to come out of your pocket to have some type of policy would be I'm sure most bodybuilders probably wouldn't pay for it. Um that's the thing too.
SPEAKER_01I would always bring up because I think in a lot of our things we were independent contractors, they called us a lot. So the IB wasn't our employer. We paid for our pro card, and that's why they suspended me for two years because they argued that point. I said, You don't pay me, I'm not under contract with you. I pay to be a part of your organization, you give me the opportunity to compete. And in September you have the Olympia, but in the month before September, there's the PDI, they have a show on where I can compete to make extra money. It's not affecting the IFBV, so why can't I do it? And I did it and got suspended. So I'm like, well, why can you suspend me? I'm an independent contractor. If if a plumber comes to do my plumbing, I can't say, now listen, buddy, you're not fucking going next door and doing my neighbours for fuck's sake. You're only doing mine. It's like that's a very like if the IFB paid out contracts, I could understand, okay, I'm with the IFB, you pay me a salary or you pay whatever. I won't compete elsewhere. But when we're independent contractors, like I raced NHRA, but I had an IHRA membership also, so I could go race with that organization. They never suspended me or said you can't race with us because you raced with them last week. It was just I paid membership in both and I could race in both. So I just hate how the IPB stops athletes who could compete elsewhere, which won't affect the IFB at all, making extra money when the IPV doesn't have shows or doing guest appearances or whatever. So I just I hate how they use those tactics to threaten people or sponsors also. Sponsors get told here in Australia if you sponsor an IFB show, you can't sponsor any other show. I'm like, you're the sponsor with the money. How can they tell you where to spend your money? I I don't get it. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_04It just seems like the IFBB is the money-making machine for themselves, right? And there's only a fucking handful of them at the top. I mean, let's be real, right? And they have and they they hold the ability to suspend you if they want, they hold the ability to pull their card, to pull your card, but they have no liability, and they're not a an employer, and they're and you know uh the judges could stake, judges could pick whoever they want as far as who's gonna win. And we've all sat there and said, Oh my god, where were they blind?
SPEAKER_01And there's just no but it's like it's like we put on a show here, here's the show consequence for them. Like here's the show, here's the money, you know what you gotta do to do it. But if anything happens to you, that's on you. We're just putting the show on. If you want to enter the show, that's on you, and what happens to you, that's it. So good luck, off you go.
SPEAKER_02That's not really their fault because I mean it is what it is. Because and what does everyone want to clamor for? They're they die to get an IFB program, right? Well, die for it. It's a piece of cardboard, right? And they'll die so they can buy one. So why the hell would they do anything differently? Like, the only reason would ever change is if there was some other place that which there won't be, but you know, like, well, if we don't do this, like we're gonna go compete over here, but what the fuck is the other thing?
SPEAKER_01Exactly. There's nobody there, yeah. So they know that too. That's the thing they know. Like, you need someone from Kuwait or someone from over there that has the money and just puts on shows, not even not even have an IFB, no organization at all, just a good promoter with sponsors and backing who could put on at least 10 shows a year with 100,000 or more prize money with no organization at all, just bodybuilding shows that you enter, win the money, you win the money, win whatever you win, and move on to the next one. But there's no IFBB, NABA, NPC, there's nothing. It's just a bodybuilding show. If you want to do it, you do it.
SPEAKER_00I mean, and then what's the rock with it? Sorry, boy.
SPEAKER_01I'm trying to do something like that. I know even when Platt started that WBF, you know, it was a good concept, but then Wida come out accused all the WBF athletes being on steroids, which then is when the media started attacking Hulk Hogan and all the wrestlers. And McMahon went, hey, wrestling's my livelihood, you're bringing a bad light to it. So that's why he got rid of the bodybuilding because we just started, they're all on steroids, it's like like your athletes aren't. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Rich, what were we gonna say? No, I I was gonna say uh towards uh Lee's point, isn't so didn't Rock and his as as wife or manager now or ex-wife, didn't they try to put on some type of show like that, have a bodybuilding show and yeah, I remember him and Phil Leaf forgot.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't Phil Leaf got to join him with yes, correct.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Look, here's the thing the IFB literally just honestly, it just seems like they just take money. If the the if you're a promoter, you have to pay a sanctioning fee months in advance in ahead, right? If you're a pro bodybuilder, you have to pay for your pro card. Uh and then what happens is you go, okay, but the the live stream sucks. And then the IFP goes, Well, that's up to the promoter. And then they go, Well, why is the why are the surprise money so low? Well, that's because of the promoter. The that's up to that's up to the promoter, you know, and it's just they just seem to have no consequence on anything whatsoever. And you know, even on judging, it's like, well, uh, Tyler Manning came out and explained why he judged it the way he did, and then it's all okay, that's it. We're done. It just it just seems like they're an organization that takes advantage and has no consequence, and they they don't care about anything else. And how many more fucking categories are we gonna add so that they could fucking make more money?
SPEAKER_06It's insane.
SPEAKER_01I don't say take advantage anymore because you know what, the athletes could stop it happening if they all, like we said, yeah, if the athletes if the athletes unionized and all united and stood together, because without the athletes, there are no shows, but for some reason the athletes don't get it through their heads. Like the athletes don't have to be rude and be demanding, but at least sit down where you can hear the athlete's side of what their needs are, hear the promoter side and actually talk and communicate and sort some shit out rather than say, this is the way it is. If you don't like it, that you're like, you know, you said go elsewhere. Where else can you go? Nowhere. Like you have to put up with their shit. So until the athletes unite, and like I said, we can have, you know, we tried the athletes' reps and stuff like that, but we do need some rep representation where someone can speak for the athletes and just have things, like I said, could just be little things that need changing just to make the sport that little bit better for everybody, you know.
SPEAKER_04Aaron, what were you gonna say?
SPEAKER_02No, just that it's not taking advantage if people are willingly lining up to do it. And they they own the monopoly. So it's like you could sit there and talk shit about it all you want. Like why would anything ever be different?
SPEAKER_04No, they don't, they wouldn't. There's no reason for them to change whatsoever, they have no pressure.
SPEAKER_02It's not really their fault either. Like, because the body, yeah, like you just said, it's the bodybuilders they want it. They're like, okay, here you go, right? Like, no one demands more, so we're not gonna give more.
SPEAKER_01I told that story once before of Wayne Demilia at the 2002 show that I won. Him and I I walked in the meeting early, he threw the magazine down. What's his shit, Lee? I said, Well, it's the article I did. We had the biggest argument, yelling. I mean, it's fucking he was yelling at me. I I said to my wife, Fuck Kathy, I'm not gonna do well tomorrow. So the other athletes come in, we stopped. Arguing the next day I won. And why next day came over to me and goes, Oh, it surprised you why I said, Well, to be honest, why and after the item we had, I didn't think I was gonna play it. And this is what he said to me, he goes, Well, I'll tell you what, Lee, he goes, I like you because you'll bring up stuff and say stuff in the magazines and it gets good press and stuff. But he goes, In that article, you asked, Why do I and the IVB do what we do? And he goes, I'll tell you, he goes, could you say something like this? And then he goes, I'll suspend you. And he goes, but the other 99 guys would do exactly what what I say, so why should I change? I said, Well at least he was honest about it.
SPEAKER_04I said, You know, every everything that we say about um about it's up to the it's it's it's the individual's decision. You can say that about anything. Like I, for example, my job, right, Aaron. They gave me a before I took my job, they gave me a list of diseases I can get. I think there's five or six of them on this piece of paper, right? And I already had them, so he wasn't worried. Yeah, yeah. And they they tell you, look, if you take the job, you can get five or six of these diseases, and it's up to you. I mean, if you become a preferred if you get drafted into uh, you know, to be a football player, well, I mean, you don't have to take it, but concussions could possibly could definitely happen because it's a very good job, your job in football probably has some thing.
SPEAKER_01If you do get concussed or you do get a disease, they take care of your bodybuilding doesn't.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I mean, so we could point to that. We could point to we could sorry, Aaron, give me one second, then I'm gonna let you speak. We could point to anything, the military. There's no draft, it's a volunteer, it's a volunteer military. Um, but hey, listen, you chose and now you're in, you know, Iran, you know, getting blown up. Uh you could say that about anything, right, Aaron? Go ahead. Your opinion.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you can, but like I think it's a different type of uh organization, or like you know, your job as an employer, uh, the army, like the military is you know, they sure they'll put you, they they own you and they'll do what they want with you, but they also like you know, there's there's um there's obviously benefits and things, right?
SPEAKER_04100%, absolutely.
SPEAKER_02It's almost like a long-term relationship you're having with this type of right. The IFPB is more like like a hookup kind of like like it's it's it's like you sign up, you buy a little card for the year, and it's like, well, you can show up for these things if you'd like. And maybe you can lose the money, maybe not, probably not, right? But like it's it's there's such a big gap there. Like that it I don't really feel like because of that, to me, most of the responsibility really falls on the people doing it. Because the and I'm not again, like, I'm not trying to defend it, I'm just saying like that's just the reality of it. It is what it is, right? Right, right.
SPEAKER_01Let's uh let's ask Sid. Sid's been around bodybuilding, and Sid did free tours of Iraq, which is worse, Sid, Iraq for bodybuilding.
SPEAKER_05Definitely bodybuilding.
SPEAKER_04Well, Sid, yeah, last word on this topic, then we're gonna move on from here.
SPEAKER_05Nah, I mean, I just I agree. You all got every one of you's got valid points. So uh I think it's genius that what the the IFTV. I mean, it's just yeah, I mean, it has to go down to personal accountability. So uh your job, you got a chance for uh five diseases. Fuck when I my first deployment is malarious, and I was getting peanut butter shots, which was uh one shot that had like fucking nine, you know, nine needles that go in you, leaves a fucking mark on you to prevent you from getting shit. So I mean, yeah, they gave you preventatives, and if you get fucked up or whatever, they take care of you. I got fucked up, they take care of me, so you're shit out of the shit.
SPEAKER_01Did they give you shit that you didn't really know what it was? You just told to take it, it'll be good for you.
SPEAKER_05Yes, absolutely. That was the peanut butter shot. So that's all I know. Yeah, it literally felt like fucking peanut butter being injected into his eight needles at once, and it it leaves a little round scar on you. So uh don't ask, well, what the hell was the other one? Cowpox? Yeah, we got injected with fucking cowpox. I do remember that. So but uh yeah, so you know I don't know. That's all I got on that.
SPEAKER_04So all right. Well, I mean, we definitely thank you for your service, that's what she was saying. All right, Rich, let's uh change topics. Here's here's what I was thinking. Regan's got one more shot to qualify for the Olympia. And he will. He he might, yeah, absolutely. Um a lot of these guys are waiting. So the month before the Olympia because they don't want to die too much. Uh, we saw Joe and Joe's a good friend, Palacio's. So we're seeing this with Regan. Um, I mean, we could go down the line, right? Uh and they all want to qualify, but they wait to the last couple of shows because they want to stay in shape and they want to go ahead and just float right into the Olympia. Then there were so many shows that were just not stacked during the year, uh, whether it was in Europe, uh, Detroit, I mean, you go down the list, but there were so many shows uh that were just had no lineups. What is what is this idea of I mean, for example, Regan put out this statement that says, I love bodybuilding, bodybuilding's my life. Well, I mean, you could have qualified earlier and not having to fly to Austria to give it one last shot to qualify. Why are these guys waiting to the last fucking minute? It baffles me.
SPEAKER_00Well, here's my take. Many of them don't have the statue, like let's take the reading, for example. We all know bottom line is uh a big influencer in the YouTube world. Now, let's say if you took that YouTube world knowledge and effort and put it into just bodybuilding lockdown, would you really be talking about it in the same? No. Now we have bodybuilders who take certain shows because it's entitlement. If you do a show that's a weak lineup, what's an extra critique? Oh, but nobody was there. What do they do? They wait to find a show and then it's too late to make it some don't. So it's it boils down to entitlement. And now with the point system change, only certain shows all you have to do is to qualify. So it's almost like uh league store turn up that way. That's my thing.
SPEAKER_04Aaron, what do you think? You've you've competed plenty of times. Uh what's the idea of waiting till the last minute and maybe you'll you'll make it to the Olympia, maybe you didn't your health.
SPEAKER_02I think that's one thing. Maybe they don't wanna, you know, maybe they don't want to blast here all year. You know what I mean? Uh not that they don't take care all year, but you know what I mean. Like maybe they want to try to just get ready, like get that phase all compartmentalized. I don't know. But I know from my experience, like when I did a show here, and depending on what I was doing to get in shape, if the next show, you know, and and then I did a show that was 10 weeks away from that one, and another one that was 10 weeks away, you know how long I would be on like things that I really shouldn't be on for that long, right? Um, and I think that that's something to think about. Yeah, like if we look at it just in terms of your chances of of making it, sure. But uh, we were also just talking about all these bodybuilders dying and stuff, right? So who knows? I don't I don't know, but I know that that's something that from my own experience, depending on what you're doing to get ready, it's something to think about. Like if you can push them all closer together to cut down on that time that you're really you know putting that stress on your body, it is better to do that. Lee, what do you think?
SPEAKER_01Does he have yeah, I used to try to get him out of the way because back when I was competing, we started off with the Iron Man was the first one, the end of February. A week later was the Arnold, a week after the Arnold was the San Francisco show. So you had three shows from the last week in Feb to the second week in March, and generally you hit them. Most people would could you qualify for the Olympiad end, and you had the whole rest of the year just to take those months off till you started prepping for the O. So I think you did a lot of good competition, but back then also. I think the hour was top five, and I think the IMA could have been top three in San Francisco's top three to qualify, whereas now today it's just a win away. Back then, you had a few more changes to qualify also, and then also if you've done the Olympia and you made top ten, making top ten qualified you for next year, so it took a lot of that pressure off whereas now, guys are having to qualify more and sometimes I just don't really think about it. And sometimes too, I think some of them leave it up to date coaches because I've heard a lot say, my coach wants me to do this one or my coach wants me to do that one. To me, you should feel good in what show you want to do, and you tell your coach, hey, this is the show I wanna do, then you should work on doing that show because I know I wanted as one now talking about some coaches now picking shows where if they're athletes in a insider athlete is good, but he can't beat the Reagan's order. Nick Walker said that block don't do that show because it doesn't look good for the coaches resume if the athlete doesn't place too well, which don't make stupid because it definitely comes inside the coaches done its job, it's up to the judges on where they play, so as long as you got your athlete in shaping your foot together then and you'll get your best and that's it, but sadly, I think a lot of these coaches now are just looking for wins and shit like that, which is picking shows for their athletes and not the athletes picking. So it could be up to the coach, it could be the drug protocol. Um, it's a bit of everything combined, you know, it's not one thing or the other, but then like I said, I think then I think sometimes too people think it's like anything, I have time, I have time. And then like I said, when you don't qualify, oh shit, I don't have time, I've only got limited shows, and everyone starts piling in because there'll be a few people I'm sure after the Olympia who are gonna go do those shows in those ones overseas and hopefully qualify. You can qualify in November for the Olympia next g then hey, you got a good time to sit out, but then I don't like sitting out that long either, because sitting out that long when I was competing always made me feel a bit lazy, so I'd always try and do at least three to four shows a year. Because to me, each time you do a show, you learn something, how your body reacts to the diet or order. Because every time you do a show, your diet's always gonna be different. You know, you're coming in at one show looking your best daddy like, I'll do that diet again. You can do that exact diet, you're not gonna look the same. You always gotta make changes. So to me, doing more shows, yes, it's hard on the body, but if you can get them out the way and space them out, that's the best way to learn your body and learn what you need and what you don't need. Because there's a lot of guys out there too who are taking way more drugs than they really do need. The body doesn't need that much, really.
SPEAKER_04So Rich, let's let's take a guy like Joe Palacios, right? Who everybody loves Joe. I mean, he's just a likable guy. I actually was talking to him a little bit today. If he wouldn't, if he would have done a show earlier in the year and say he didn't come, he came in like he did at Tampa or Atlanta. It's a it's a very good possibility that he could have done a show um later now and had fixed the problem if he would have did a Detroit and came in soft or a New York Pro and came in soft. And then possibly have be on his way to the Olympia instead of waiting for the last minute trying and then being like, okay, I screwed up, I'm shutting it down next year. What do you think, Rich?
SPEAKER_00I well with Joe, my I personally think uh his culture adjusted.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think what happened was they his body did three too fast and they just didn't really know how to really prepare it. Because he came up and I was just like, why didn't he look like this? And next one is like growing, growing, growing, and I think it didn't actually understand his body. That's probably why it took a little later on to get stage ready. I think it was wise for him to shut it down and really let the body grow and they can understand it more because Russian Russian yes, you learn more, but he's young and just growing too too fast for the body, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_04Because Regan, Regan could have I've just used Joe as an example, but Regan could have won Regan could have won Detroit, Regan could have won uh the show that you guys were at, uh Sid and Lead in Germany. Um he could have won uh the Arnold Classic Brazil, and then he would have been able to take some time off and then prep for the Olympia. And now it just seems to me that uh they're all scrimping and scraping and trying to get the last qualification in.
SPEAKER_00Well, with Regan, he was he was uh I can say this. He was he was uh preparing to um put another butt in the oven. That's why he took his oh oh really is that what it was?
SPEAKER_04Okay, all right. Uh that's almost almost done. But Sid, what do you got going on? You got uh Aaron, I don't know if you know, but uh Sid manages Lee and he manages Hunter Labrato. Who else are you managing now? You used to manage the Trend twins. Do you still manage them?
SPEAKER_05No, I never uh lined some stuff up, but uh starting to help Ronnie out a little bit, and then uh see you and Hunter are going to cold iron gym soon. Yeah, we go we fly out there Friday and then uh home for a few days and then meet you and Anaheim. I think I got one day home after we go to Anaheim, and then I meet Ronnie for uh a gym down in Florida. Yeah, we're busy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's that's Ronnie and Jay and Honey Rambot, everybody.
SPEAKER_05Oh wow, yeah, they're dropping some big big money. Uh Brian Shaw reached out to me today, so we're uh gonna try to line a few things up for him. So yeah, that's uh busy.
SPEAKER_04I mean, Sid is a uh fantastic fucking manager and uh security, too.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I gotta have that around Lee when he pisses everybody off online.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's for sure.
SPEAKER_05What do you mean? Come on. How about that? You know oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_04My god, that time they all wanted to kill you. Yeah, that's right, earlier this year.
SPEAKER_01Who wanted to kill me? Oh, Hardy. I that's only because I defended Hardy. That's not my problem, for fuck's sake.
SPEAKER_04Um Aaron, what about you? What do you got going on? Regular stuff, buddy. Besides your whiteboard stuff that everybody loves, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I have to say that.
SPEAKER_04They're hilarious. They're great. Your whiteboard stuff is great.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna finish editing one right after I get off of here.
SPEAKER_04Um I'm gonna eat and go to bed. That's it. All right, good. And Rich, what about you? You're competing next year?
SPEAKER_00Um, that's the plan. Um as you know, um dealing with uh some personal stuff with these uh fires, lost our condo with the wildfires in Battle BC. So uh taking some time to regroup, but one more show and before I'm 54 and call it a day.
SPEAKER_01Now, what's happening here, Rich? Have you locked yourself out of the house or what's going on there?
SPEAKER_00Well, we have forest fires in BC there, Lee. Uh they're burning down everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, is that British British Columbia?
SPEAKER_00Yes, correct.
SPEAKER_01Beautiful, beautiful part of the world. My favorite one of my favorite places is Kelowna. I love going to Kelowna.
SPEAKER_00Kelowna is that's one of the places then you know we've had some travesty going down there and can't believe Kelowna. Yeah, Surrey. Did you ever look for the Ogo Pogo in Lake Okanagan? I didn't. Well, you know what? That's another place that I actually went down as well. It's it's it's it's rough out here. But once we get settled, you've got to come out.
SPEAKER_01We spent a week looking for the ogo pogo. For people that don't know, it's like the Loch Ness Monster. I didn't see I sat by that lake for a week.
SPEAKER_04Right. Lee, after you said after you found the Ogopogo. What are you you're gonna be in Anaheim soon, right?
