All right, very cool. John Livia, Sirius, and Celliness Bodybuilding, and I have one of my favorite bodybuilders, Lewis Breed. What's up, dude? Hey buddy, thanks for having me on. Of course, of course. There's a couple of there's like I become fans of bodybuilders for certain reasons, like weird reasons. First of all, always a fan of the mass monsters, right? That's number one. Then I'm a fan of the guys that don't give up, that just keep fucking grinding, right? Like I become a fan of Blessing this year after he just was would not fucking give up, even though he was right. And and you're the combination of both.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was about to say that's pretty much me in a nutshell. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But uh before we start, I just gotta quickly um plug uh Nutrafit. Nutrafit has this line called uh resurrection, and this is their first uh pre-workout for Lee Priest, it's called Crucifix, and I think their next product came out this weekend called Holy Water, and that's an intra workout. So you could go on Nutrafit, N-U-T-R-I-F-I-T-T for people that are listening, and you put in the discount code Priest, you get 20% off. If you buy a Lee Priest product and another product, and you use Lee Priest code, then you actually get 30% off. And then also vintage muscle. I did a commercial and it is on my Instagram and it'll be coming up here. Vintage Muscle are these uh drops you put under your tongue. That's a breakthrough supplement line, vintage muscle.com. Just wanted to say that real quick. And now we have Lewis Breed. So, Lewis, we're pressed for time, so I'm just gonna fucking ask you the question that I've been asking. I even asked a I won't remember I won't say his name, but I even asked a IFBB judge why you get no love when you compete. Because it looks like to me, you're round, you're big, you're hard as nails, you come in shape every time. You you never disrespect a sport by coming out of shape, and for some reason they don't reward you. Um his answer was it's your shape, but your shape isn't that bad. You know?
SPEAKER_01So I mean this what do you think it is? Um, like this comes you know back and forth a lot, you know, from people that watch the shows, people that follow me, fans, people that aren't fans, that you know, and it's like I'm not one of these who's a bad loser, you know what I mean. The judges judge it how they see it, you know what I mean. And I if I'm not fit to be a little bit higher, then then then then so be it. But I get it constantly saying, Oh, you were overlooked, you deserved this, you deserve that. And um I know I know I bring a lot of muscle, and I know I bring good condition, you know what I mean. So you've got muscularity, condition, and then shape and symmetry. So I bring two out of the three at the utmost, you know what I'm saying? So yeah, I know I'm not structurally gifted with this tiny waist and these you know, flaring lats and things like that, but you know, my shape isn't terrible, exactly. You know, it really isn't. Um yeah, sometimes I do see if you break it down post-pose, I think, man, I win a lot of those shots, right? You know. Um but I I don't know. You know, I know the trajectory of the sport seems to change a little bit. You know, they tend it seems like they they're they're trying to go for that more sort of classic, real, sort of tapered waist. Um, my wife always says to me, if you were competing back in the day, you know, with Ronnie and Marcus Rule and stuff like that, you'd be fucking well in there.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, well, I was gonna say the perfect guy that I always uh think of when I think of you is is Branch Warren.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00That's what that's what I think of you. No, but here's the thing: you're not you're not competing against Andrew Jack, you're not competing against Samson Dowder. You're not gonna I mean I can understand Patrick Moore giving him, especially the last couple of shows, he really came and diced. Um, so you did Tampa. What place did you did you uh no no I didn't I didn't do Tampa, I did Atlanta. Oh right, you did Atlanta and you did Texas. What would what was your place in Atlanta?
SPEAKER_01So I I got fifth at Atlanta, you know what I mean? And and after that initial first call, I you know, everybody was like, my coach said, even James said backstage and his coach, and that they were like they all they all sort of had me top three. They had Regan, James, and myself, you know. Um, and then I ended up fifth. Um, I did speak to one of the judges, um, and they he said you could have quite easily been third if you were just better in your transitions when you pose. Um, so that was obviously food for thought that I took away with me. But you know, I thought the look in terms of muscularity and condition was you know, was I mean, we should always step on stage at our absolute best, but I think it was my best. Um I I I think I was a little unlucky not to place a little bit higher, and then I went to Texas and you know, I dropped down to sixth at Texas, um, which is which was which was quite disappointing, right? Um, but like you said, you know, uh maybe the judges just don't favor there's only so much I can do, you know. Um I am I am gifted with what I'm gifted genetically, you know. So there's only so much muscle and so much condition I can bring, and I'm always one of the best conditioned guys up there. I'm always one of the most muscular guys up there, right? You know, what else can I do? Right. So now you know what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, at Texas, you came in sixth. Who that was the show that Patrick won, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so who came in? So Regan was second, right? Yeah. Who was I don't remember who was third, fourth, and fifth. Do you remember? Um it was um Ken, Klaus as Ken. Class is Ken?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. What's he called? Ken, that's his name on Instagram, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, I know what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then John John Dewitt. Yeah, and then there was another guy. He was fifth at Tampa, actually.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I know who you're talking about. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's relatively new. Yeah, I beat him comfortably in Atlanta. Um, yeah, I think he was about eighth, eighth at Atlanta, something like that.
SPEAKER_00And then so it is my opinion, and I'm not just blowing smoke up your ass because you're on my show. Um I I wouldn't have obviously I wouldn't have had you beaten beating Regan and Patrick because of their shape.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, and I totally get that, you know.
SPEAKER_00But Colossus Ken. I mean, he's huge, but he's always he's he's never nailed it. Yeah, he's I mean, he's a young dude and he's got a lot of new muscle, and I get it. Yeah. But to put him ahead of you, I don't understand.
SPEAKER_01I thought I might yeah, and I thought I might have picked John as well, you know, John Dewitt. Um he comes in quite sort of hard and and nailed. Um, I'm I'm a little bit more muscular than he is, but you know, the judges see it the way they see it, but it's frustrating. But um well, it's been like this for a few years now, so it is. You know, I'm always in that first call out, but I always land anywhere between I've had a couple of third places. Yeah, I remember that. I remember um but anywhere between sort of there and sixth, that's what I sort of always sort of end up. Um, you know, which you know, you're always in that that that top six at any pro show. That's always you know a feat to be you know we to be uh you know happy about, but I just feel I do feel sometimes I get overlooked, but the judges they they judge it how they see it. Maybe they don't they don't quite like my shape and my structure, maybe you know, and there are guys with phenomenal shape and structure. I get that.
SPEAKER_00I don't understand how you get overlooked anymore. People know who you are at this point.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all know when you're just starting out, you're not a name, you're not familiar to the judges. It's difficult, isn't it? You've got to pay your dues, you know, get in front of the judges a few times so they see your face, they recognize the physique. Yeah, and I get that, but like you said, I've been you know third and fourth, you know, for the past three years now. Um, so yeah, it it's a little bit frustrating, but I still love it. I still love it. I still keep coming back, you know. We head to Italy next week. Okay, you're doing I was gonna say you're doing Italy. Yeah, yeah. And we're gonna do I'm gonna do a whole run now. Um I'm just like, you know what, let's let's just go for it. So we're just gonna hit as many shows as we can, providing we can bring the look, providing we can uh stay fresh and not get too sort of tired and fatigued. Right. Um, yeah, so that that's kind of gonna be the plan.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think that's why, again, and these are all just my personal opinions. I think that's why the hardcore fan really respects you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because no matter like you don't give up, no matter what, and you and you and you lose with grace.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh, 100%. You know, I'm so happy for the other guys that plays ahead of me, you know, and each one that does, I see their strength, so I understand why the judges have picked that. You know what I mean? You know, I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm not like that in the slightest. Um yeah, as much as it can frustrate you. Yeah, I am a I am a humble loser, and I'm you know, I'm I'm grateful for every competitor that I'm up against, and I know they've all worked just as hard, you know.
SPEAKER_00Because one of my pet peeves is a man that can't control his emotions. It's yeah, it drives me crazy.
SPEAKER_01We saw that we saw that with Michael DeBoe last week. We saw it a lot this year, yeah.
SPEAKER_00We saw it a lot, and to me, I mean, I don't know if you ever watched the movie The Godfather, but there's there's a great line where Brando says uh uh women and children could be careless, but not men. Yes, and you know, taking controlling your emotions as part of being a man, and if Michael DeBull coming in third, or Charles Griffin not being compared to Joe Palacios, or Martin Fitzwater jumping up and down because Nick came in second, if that if that's your attitude on stage, what what's gonna happen when shit really hits the fan in your life? Yeah, and and that's how I look at it. I'm like, what if something terrible happened? What do you do? Just crumble and fall apart, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like there is, and we are supposed to be professional athletes, you know. If you can't on, you know, if you want to go backstage or go home, you know, and and smash up the kitchen or cry or get angry, that's fine, you know what I mean. But you're on stage, thousands of people are watching the live stream, thousands of people in the audience, you know. And if you can't conduct yourself just for those five minutes and put a smile on your face and congratulate those that placed higher than you, then I ask myself, you know, you know, we've we're supposed to be the strongest mindset people in the in the world with this game. That's right. And if you can't keep your mindset together in those moments, then like you said, imagine when shit really hits the fan.
SPEAKER_00I it it blows me away how how I don't know. You know, I I have this conversation with Lee all the time and Jason Arnes. Because Lee got screwed out of a lot of fucking shows, and he same as you, he just put a smile on his face and just let it go, and so on and so forth. But you know, I grew up what a guy my father was cold as steel. You didn't know if he was angry, he never never showed a fucking emotion. He was a rock, it was unbelievable. So that's how I grew up. And everybody, my entire family would depend on it. He was the he was the rock in the family, and I'm talking cousins, aunts, uncles, his brothers, his sisters, my me, my brothers. He was the guy you went to for issues and problems, and he just fucking stood hard. I don't understand these guys that just collapse on stage. It baffles me. It's like you it just baffles me. And so that's why I have a lot of respect for you. Because even I could see that you're probably not being rewarded unless you know, I'm not a judge, don't get me wrong. This is just my humble opinion. I could see that you're not being rewarded and you still go out with grace. And the best part is too, you're you're showing your son, because I know you have a son, you're showing your son how to conduct yourself as a professional and as a man. Yeah. And to me, that that speaks volumes of your character.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. And like, you know, I just consider myself a normal person, but I know there are a lot of people out there that are fans of mine and consider me a bit of a role model, you know. And like, if yeah, if you can't hold it together, and you know, I mean, people are gonna see that, and I just never want that, you know. I'm I I am who I am, you know what I mean. That what you see is what you get with me, but um, yeah, it um I don't like to see that, and and it it it shows uh you know a true side of your character, um, and that always worries me.
SPEAKER_00But um so body let's go on to some fun questions. Go on. So when you're when you're backstage, out of all the people you competed against, who is the most impressive guy you saw backstage? Well, you look at him and you go, fuck, what am I gonna do now?
SPEAKER_01Andrew. Andrew Jacked.
SPEAKER_00Uh everybody says Andrew Jack.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just because he's just obviously he's he's he's incredibly tall as well, but it's just yeah, he is just like uh up close. He's more he's more in impressive up close than he actually is when you see him on the stage. It's just everything's so big around, it's like he was built by the gods, right? Um, so yeah, he's the most impressive physique backstage when you've gone fucking hell.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely. I I asked uh I asked Dorian Haywood the same question, he said the same thing. Andrew that seems to be everybody's answer, Andrew Jack.
SPEAKER_01I think like if you judge the show backstage, Andrew Drack will be Mr. Olympia. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But when he gets on stage, you know, though those few floors show and you know he drops a couple of places, but yeah, but from a backstage stage perspective, Andrew, you know, and Andrew's such a great, quiet, humble guy. Me and Andrew trained together in Dubai a few years ago.
SPEAKER_00Um I've heard nothing but good things about him.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, he is he is just that.
SPEAKER_00He's just such such even when he had that uh even when he had that disagreement with um Kamal O'Garney. Yes, he didn't say a word, he just bowed out, did not react. And and and to me, again, that speaks volumes of your character. It's like here's a guy talking a lot of shit about you in public on podcasts, everybody saying it, and he just doesn't rise to it, doesn't get under his skin, nothing like that, and it's the best, and then you know, that's the best way to be, and then just you know, he just continues to let his physique do the talking, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Um, and uh yeah, yeah, he's just a great individual, um, a great, great character. Um, but just so yeah, just so humble with everything as well. Will you be at the Olympia this year? I am at the Olympia, yeah. Obviously, the aim was to try and be there competing, right? But that's not the case. But I am there anyway. Um, so it'll be great to catch up with a lot of the athletes. I've got a uh I've got a competitor doing the uh amateur Olympia as well. So I'll be I'll be busy with that. But uh yeah, it's gonna be great to be there because uh if I can't be on stage, at least I can uh catch up and get a couple of workouts with a few of the guys and catch up with everybody, which is gonna be yeah, it's gonna be fun.
SPEAKER_00Um are you gonna be there with a booth with any sponsors? Um meet and greet or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01Well, I've only just confirmed that I'm going yesterday. So um I will get in touch with my sponsors now. And uh yeah, and because I know I'm going, I'll I'll I'll arrange and I'll sort of be on be on the booth over the course of the weekend, which will be cool.
SPEAKER_00Okay, very cool, very cool. So now gun to your head. Go on. Who's win? Gun to your head. Somebody jumps out, fucking puts up Smith and West into your head, and he says, Who's winning the Olympia? Like who do I want to win or who's gonna win? Like, who's who do you think is gonna? Well, we'll do both. I because I I go through the same thing. Who do you think is gonna win?
SPEAKER_01Who do I think is gonna win? Um it is like that this year, isn't it? It is like that. It is Andrew's made crazy improvements. Samson's the biggest he's ever been if he can bring back condition.
SPEAKER_00His progress picks are in fucking sane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think it gone to a head I had to make a decision within a split second, I'd say Samson. Right Nick is my you know favourite physique, and he's a friend of mine just because I see a lot of similarities in Nick to myself more than anybody else of the top guys, right?
SPEAKER_00Right, right.
SPEAKER_01You know what I mean? So, you know, Nick is my favorite. I think Samson with the muscle he's added. Andrew's phenomenal, but I think there might still be a few gaps in his physique, um, which still need, you know, you know, he's phenomenal. But um, just when you compare him, if Samson's gonna be bringing that amount of tissue, I think it'll exploit a couple of gaps in Andrew's physique. Derek is well, Derek's two-time Mr. Olympia, but he shouldn't be if you look at the other guys there. But on the day when he won it, he won it rightfully so. But if everybody else if everybody else brings it, you know, you know, Derek, I mean, Derek deserved it, don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_00But Derek got a little lucky. Andrew wasn't the Andrew of the Arnold classic. No, Samson really missed it because he tried to come in way too lean. Yeah, Hardy was a little bit off. Yeah. And Nick came out. Nick was flat as a boy, he did not way off, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it was like every everybody was excuse me, everybody was off. Yeah, and uh, yeah, so Derek, yeah, rightfully so, won it.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01But like I said to you, if everybody else is on, then you know, Derek could be anywhere between first, right the way down to fourth. Yeah, I know, you know, but that's why it's such an exciting obviously gutted that Haddy's not gonna be there this year. That is a shame. But um, with the way Andrew's looking, with the way Samson's looking, and with Nick after his show in in Tampa, like, yeah, man, I'm excited to see it. I'm excited to see it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, me too. I'm I'm a huge fan of Nick and Samson. Are my are my two uh favorite as far as the elite in the top five, yeah. Um, and Nick, it's you know what it is, Nick, and Nick grew up not far from me. I live in New Jersey, he grew up in South Jersey. I mean, I grew up in New York, but I moved to Jersey, and the way he is with his mom and the way he treats his mom, and uh, I just uh to me, you you gotta love that, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love it so much, man. And his mom's his mom's great. Yeah, um, you know, she's such she's such a cool woman, yeah. And just just his whole persona, yeah. You know what I mean? And you look, he's like arguably the most popular open bodybuilder on the planet, but like the stick the man has got for his physique and like the way like and the way he's just taken it on the chin, you know, he's he's he's an incredibly strong-minded character, and the way he just you know, he's just come back better, you know, after you know, admittedly him not being far from his best last year, and then to come back the way he has done this year. Yeah, I'd love for him to win it. I don't know if yeah, yeah, I don't know if they will quite give it to him, but I would love for him to get it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the only it's very you have to be a special bodybuilder to beat uh Nick, you know, you gotta be a Samson or an Andrew or a Derek. That's really it, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, but you know, the muscularity the man carries is just phenomenal, and he's hard with it as well, isn't he? Dude, it's nailed shots are insane. Oh, like nobody's touching those rear shots, you know. We all talk, we all talk about Derek's rear shots, you know what I mean. But just the thickness through his abductors and hamstring in that rear shot, that's why for me, his rear shot blows Derek's away.
SPEAKER_00His rear, it's gotten better. Like, I don't I don't know how these you know, everybody talks about the uh the bodybuilders of the of the 90s into the early 2000s, but these guys today, their talent level is deep. Yeah, it really is. They you know, and the older guys don't seem to give them much credit, but between the size and the shape and the structure and their and their hardness, I mean the talent level is severely deep.
SPEAKER_01Now, and I love big, you know, like the Dorian Yates, the branch warren, you know, and the that real hard look. And you know, I'd like to think that that's what I bring, you know. I mean, and I absolutely and I absolutely love that. When I see somebody hard and nailed, yeah, man, I just take my hat off to it because it just looks fucking gnarly.
SPEAKER_00It really does, like a Hartie Chupin. It's sad that he's not gonna be there this year, but uh he'll be at the Arnold. Now, um growing up, who was your who was the guy that you looked up to as a bodybuilder and was like, Oh, I I want to be a bodybuilder because of him. Yeah, Jay Colour. Yeah, love Julie. Yeah, Jay, because what
SPEAKER_01When I started bodybuilding, it was it was Jay and Ronnie, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, going at it.
SPEAKER_01Jay Cutter was my number one, and then a clo and then Branch Warren because I just thought he looked crazy. Yeah, yeah. I became what I mean. Yeah, and it's crazy crazy to this day, you know. I know them both now on a personal level, and that still to this day is like a bit mind-blowing, you know, when they were like idols of mine, you know.
SPEAKER_00Oh but yeah, yeah. The fact that I'm friends with Lee Priest, I'm like, Jesus Christ. Like he he called, he faced, he was in Anaheim, and I just got home from work, it was late, it was Friday, and he FaceTimed me, and it was him, Joe Palacios, and Hunter Labrada. And I was like, Jesus, I'm I'm a fucking shithead on a microphone on YouTube, and these three are calling.
SPEAKER_01The thing is, man, yeah, it's so cool, man. The thing is, you know, I'm a pro bodybuilder, and you know, I do all right as a pro, but I'm also a bodybuilding fan. I'm still a fucking bodybuilding fan, you know. So it's yeah, it's amazing to be able to like uh be on both sides um of this game, and yeah, and I absolutely love it. Um, so I'm looking forward to the Olympia.
SPEAKER_00What uh only a couple more questions, then I'm gonna let you go. Um, what young guys do you like coming up?
SPEAKER_01Young guys, um of the young yeah. I I think you know we we spoke about Ken Colossus. Ken, I think he's got a lot of potential. Uh once that physique matures, like you said, he needs everything's bubbly, but it's a little bit soft, it just needs to harden up and mature. Um, and he's got really good sort of shape and structure when he opens up. He's definitely gonna be um gonna be impressive over the next few years. Um who else have we got the young guns coming up?
SPEAKER_00Um I like that uh knee hot kid, I think from Turkey. He's in the 212. Oh, the 212? Yeah, I think he is phenomenal.
SPEAKER_01Oh, crazy good.
SPEAKER_00Because he's already what 22, 23.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's absolutely insane. Yeah, 23 years old, and already, you know, you know, if yeah, without a shadow of a doubt, you know, he can win that Olympia and hold that reign for a good few years.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I could I could see him, I could see him moving up to the open too, because he's got that shape where he could put some more muscle on, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he wouldn't need to be the biggest, right? Just because the way he's put together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, he could certainly do a Derek or a Hattie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. What what bodybuilder do you think had a new bodybuilder? Well, not new, new for the top five, has the best chance of breaking into the top five that hasn't been there before yet this year. That hasn't been there. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Who we got? Um I'll give you a hint. I was already thinking of somebody. Um, I'm trying to think who who's who we got in that crew.
SPEAKER_00Um, top five. Because Hardy's gone. Yeah. Handy's gone. You know, we don't know what Martin's gonna show up.
SPEAKER_01No, Martin's very hit and miss, isn't he? You know, if he's not on, he can be will easily be way out of the top five. Yeah, and yeah, then it leaves it, it leaves an open spot, doesn't it? Um I think Tony O. I was just about to say Tony Owen literally just about Tony Owen. But the thing is, he's not the he's not the biggest, but he's just bubbly and round and shapely, and he's always nailed. Yeah, um, and he's a bit of a uh although he's not small, he's a bit of a giant killer in that lineup, isn't he? You know, um, and if he's on and everybody else is off, he can definitely squeeze in and around that area, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think he he has the best shot. Man, he is so impressive to see.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, he's just his he's one of them physiques as well, man. If you see him in a t-shirt, you go, oh, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then he takes his shirt off and he goes. And he takes it off and gets on stage, and you're like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. All right, last question. So, what is Lewis Breed have in the future? I know you're competing in Italy, you're gonna be at the Olympia. Any uh business endeavors, anything interesting happening, anything with the family?
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, well, um, you know, I'm uh yeah, we're gonna go do a big push of shows over the next few months. Um, the goal is to qualify for the Olympia, but good, you know, whether that's ever gonna happen, I don't know. So we'll give it a big push. I'd really like to do the Arnold's at the early part of next year because I've not had the chance to step on that stage. That's nice, yeah. You know what I mean? And that would have great would be a great way to finish a long season. Um, and uh from a personal perspective, I'm enjoying the coaching side of it. Um, so you know, and it's a nice transition into you know when you give up the trunks, moving on to the coaching side of it, yeah. Um, and there's a couple of opportunities with uh gyms and things like that, but yeah, hey, I'm I'm I'm still a competitive bodybuilder, things going on in the background, but I'm gonna hit her on a shows, head to the Arnold. Um, if we can if we manage to get a qualification for the Olympia next year, I'd love that. And if I did, if I'm honest, that would I think that would be my last show. Really? I think so, yeah. Yeah, you know, I mean it's uh how old are you now? I'm 30 37 or 38 38.
SPEAKER_00Um so if you make it to the Olympia, you think that would be your last show?
SPEAKER_01That would be my last show, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, all right. Well, I hope you make it to the Olympia, man. And yeah, um, listen, man, uh much respect and love, and thank you so much for coming on. I truly am a big fan of yours.
