I remember meeting Kathy for the first time in about 2010. She and her husband were already very successful real estate investors.
They have gone through many challenges and have made some REALLY GREAT CHOICES.
About Kathy:
Kathy and her husband, Paulo Shikanai started buying real estate in 1996 with ‘Freedom 55’ in mind.
So far, they are not retired, but they would say that this is by choice.
They have bought and sold a few properties internationally, but still own several single-family homes and about 10 multifamily buildings in Regina and 2 hotels/villas in Roatan, Honduras.
When they met in Japan in 1994, Paulo, being Brazilian, didn’t speak a word of English, but he trusted Kathy enough to send 50% of his salary back to Canada to buy single-family homes.
They moved to Regina in 1999 with 2 kids in tow and started Regency Property Management and Real Estate Inc. managing thousands and thousands of rental properties over the years.
Just like the game Monopoly, they sold some houses to upgraded to multifamily.
Working directly in the rental market allowed them to pick up some great deals along the way using unconventional methods such as ‘no money down’ or OPM (Other People's Money".
Their new goal is to learn how to invest in the US market and provide others with the opportunity to own cash-flowing multifamily buildings abroad.
A second goal is to eventually move their equity from their mid-size, aging buildings in Regina to newer, larger projects in the States in hopes that their two adult children will continue to own cash-flowing real estate into the future.
Kathy and Paulo’s passion and drive to learn and grow in this industry keeps life interesting! All for the love of real estate!
