Hester Peirce is the Commissioner for the SEC, holding the office since January 2018. Prior to joining the SEC, Commissioner Peirce conducted research on the regulation of financial markets at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. She was a Senior Counsel on the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, where she advised Ranking Member Richard Shelby and other members of the Committee on securities issues.
Some of the talking points Commissioner Peirce and I go over in this episode include:
- The SEC is only one of the entities that have an impact on the crypto space.
- The importance of regulating to allow this new technology to take hold in other parts of our lives.
- The crypto space is not asking for no rules, they’re asking to KNOW the rules.
- Regulators need to have public discussions and not make all their decisions behind closed doors.
