5 Min Friday! Your Body Runs Your Business Whether You Admit It
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We challenge the idea that hustle is the same as discipline by pointing to one metric that quietly controls every other result: recovery. We make the case that sleep, training, and simple health tracking improve decision making, leadership, and long-term business performance.
• why a sleep score can matter more than revenue
• how two bad nights of sleep degrade calls and leadership
• the mistake of blaming others instead of depleted recovery
• training as maintenance that supports better decisions
• choosing one health number to measure and monitor
• a simple framework that ties health to service, relationships, and spirituality

What's up? It's five minute Friday. We're gonna give you five minutes of insights in less than five minutes. So every day I wake up, there's a number I check. Most of you think it might be the bank account, the revenue, my calendar, but what is it actually? It's my sleep score. I use the Fitbit Air and I use this because most people got it backwards. We're tracking everything in business leads, close rate, revenue, churn, and you can tell me your numbers right now, off the top of your head. Now tell me your wrestling heart rate. Tell me your HRV. Most people don't know it because that number decides how good every other number is going to be. So here's what actually happens: you sleep bad for two nights in a row, just two, you don't feel sick, you feel fine, you have some coffee, you overcompensate, but you're slower on the call. You miss the client, what the client didn't say. You get short with somebody
Five Minute Friday Setup
SPEAKER_00on your team, and you don't attribute to any of it to sleep. You attribute it
The One Number He Checks
SPEAKER_00to them. Your body isn't separate from your business. Your body is the machine that makes your business run. You would never have a company on a laptop you never charged. But you'll run off one to four hours of sleep and tell yourself you're grinding. That's not grinding. That's running a machine into the ground. That's your body and calling it discipline. Now, the reason I think this is so important is because our health is our wealth. So I want you to realize that I don't train to look good. I don't train to hit a PR. I train so that I can make better decisions when I do.
How Bad Sleep Breaks Performance
SPEAKER_00Training isn't achievement, it's the maintenance. You don't get a trophy for maintenance. Nobody claps. You just get to be sharp. And I want you to realize that when I train each and every week, when I go to the gym three days a week, when I go to Muay Thai two times, when I do my long run, that helps me mentally. That helps me physically as well. But you have to lock in and you have to realize that when you pick these numbers and you start to measure and monitor, your life is going to change for the better. So instead of just focusing on the business, I want you to focus on your health. I want you to focus on who you are. I want you to focus on who you're becoming. Because without that, we're
Training As Decision-Making Maintenance
SPEAKER_00not gonna do anything. We will achieve nothing. Because the truth is that our bodies are temples, and we have to be able to bring these in together. So what I do here is I do five pillars and I coach people on mental health, physical health, service, community service, philanthropy, relationships, and spirituality. And physical is always the first one the guy's gonna drop. It's the one that feels optional. It's the one that says skip it today with no consequences. It's the one that's holding up all the other numbers. So I want you to check in on a number. I want you to pick a number, whether it's resting heart rate, sleep score, weight, whatever you want it to be, pick a number and start to measure and monitor because that's gonna make the change for you. The more you measure and monitor, the more you're gonna be able to create the person that you want to be. If you feel that you need help with this, I want you to shoot me an email at jordan at edwards.consulting or shoot me a DM on Instagram, JordanF Edwards. And I look forward to speaking with you. Hope you have an incredible five minute Friday. Enjoy.
