Below 100 is a commonsense approach to officer safety that focuses on areas under an officer's control. Although it is the responsibility of every person wearing a badge, regardless of rank or assignment, to take individual and collective responsibility for officer safety, leaders have an important responsibility that cannot be ignored. Leaders directly influence the culture of their organization. True leadership means challenging resistance and pushing past excuses so that safety isn't just encouraged—it's expected. Leaders have positional authority, and with it comes the absolute responsibility to do everything possible to ensure officers make it home to their families. Protecting our communities starts with protecting our officers.
Today’s guest is a nationally recognized leader in officer safety. Dale Stockton is a 32-year law enforcement veteran, retired police captain from the Carlsbad, California Police Department, and the driving force behind Below 100 —a national training initiative focused on reducing preventable line-of-duty deaths. He’s trained tens of thousands of officers, served as a California POST Commissioner, and was honored with a Lifesaver Award by NHTSA. He’s also an FBI NA grad – session 201 - and holds a master’s degree in Criminology from the University of California, Irvine. If you remember reading Law Officer Magazine (back in the days of print!), you’ve probably read one of his hundreds of articles written during his decade as editor-in-chief.
