Way before COVID-19 came around, Dr. Stasha Gominak was discussing the role of vitamin D for our sleep, mental well-being, immunity, microbiome, bone and skin health, and prevention of chronic disease. Dr. Stasha Gominak is a Neurologist who left her practice to focus solely on treating neurological illness by improving sleep.  Our body repairs itself through sleep, yet sleep problems have become an epidemic since the 80s when everyone started wearing sunscreens and started spending more time indoors.  Vitamin D is well-known as the "bone vitamin or the sun vitamin," but in reality vitamin D is a hormone that affects multiple parts of our body, but we do make it through sun exposure.  Dr. Gominak provides a thorough understanding of the correlation between vitamin D, vitamin B , the microbiome, and sleep disorders.

You may discover that your insomnia, fatigue, nightly leg pains or burning, weight gain, mood or memory problems, high blood pressure, reproductive or fertility problems, or autoimmune disorders, are the result of these vitamin deficiencies, gut imbalances, and poor sleep! She also discusses that the similar issues are happening in childhood resulting in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and even autism. She discusses some interesting findings related to the neurotransmitter, Acetylcholine, as it relates to the parasympathetic nervous system (rest/digest system), nicotine, and its role being a inflammatory pathway.
