Discipline or Abuse? A Conversation about Athletics, Group Fitness, and Performing Arts
There is a thin line between environments that encourage discipline and environments that encourage abusive tactics to control people's bodies and lives. In our second podcast unpacking discipline, Mallory, Meredith, and Lara look at discipline in athletics, group fitness, and performing arts.
Meredith shares her experience with discipline as a professional dancer and yoga teacher. Lara explains her complicated feelings on the language and cueing used in group fitness. Mallory describes how the fitness industry is built on a business model rooted in a distrust of our bodies. The group finishes the podcast by giving tools to navigate toxic fitness environments.
