Believe Like A Boss
How to Define the Legacy You Want to Leave
Have you ever paused to ask yourself, "What do you want to be known for?" Join me, Life Coach Nandi Camille, as we wander through the serene hills of Colorado and reflect on the power of setting clear intentions, especially in uncertain times. Together, we'll uncover what truly excites us by exploring this pivotal question.
Whether it's perfecting your chocolate cake recipe, nurturing a garden, or inspiring others from the stage, understanding our unique desires can lead us to authentic joy and fulfillment. Through personal stories and examples, I'll share the importance of sincerity in discovering what makes us magnetic.
In the second part of our journey, we'll shift focus to the lasting legacy we wish to create. Reflect on the impact you want to have and the people you aim to influence. We'll assess how your current actions align with your desired legacy and consider any necessary adjustments. This is a call to live mindfully and authentically, showing up as the best version of yourself for both you and those around you.

Speaker 2:Hello, hello, hello and welcome back to another episode of Believe Like a Boss. I am your host life coach, Nandi Camille, and yet again I am recording on the road. My friends, we are camping and I am going to warn you you might hear some birds in the background. You might hear a breeze. You might even hear some bugs. You might hear I was going to say Frazier Tyler in the background getting frustrated as he's moving some things around. There's going to be a little bit of background noise today, but I wanted to welcome you guys to the hills of Colorado. It is gorgeous out here and if you follow me on social media, I have been posting about it all weekend and the beginning of this week Just all the beautiful sights and some of my reflections as we've been walking around and just being outside.
Speaker 2:This week, my friends, we are unpacking two questions, just two simple but I feel like really impactful questions that can help us to set some intentions really clearly, especially when we're in seasons of I don't know or I don't know what's next, really clearly, especially when we're in seasons of I don't know or I don't know what's next, or I just feel uncertain, or I just feel stuck and I'm not quite sure what next step to take. These two questions may help to clarify that, hopefully for you, the first question being what do you want to be known for? Now this question might feel really, really big, but I truly want you to just roll it around in your head, marinate in it for a moment. What do you want to be known for? Some of the first examples that came to mind for me not for me personally, but just when I was thinking about what things people in my life like to be known for maybe you want to be known for making the very best chocolate cake, and for my family, chocolate cake means a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. That's what my grandmother makes and that's what she's known for, amongst other things, but she is known for making the best chocolate cake.
Speaker 2:Do you want to be known for having the best garden in your family? And let me back up when I say best, I think that that does imply a level of comparison best compared to who right? Best in your neighborhood, best in your family? This is not about competition. This is not about comparison. So maybe we don't use the word best, but maybe you want to be known as a really good gardener. You want to be known as having some really fresh strawberries in your garden. You have some of the juiciest I don't know cucumbers that you pickle, and you have some of the juiciest I don't know cucumbers that you pickle and you make into pickles every single year. What do you want to be known for For others of us? Maybe you want to be known for speaking on stages and inspiring people. Maybe you want to be known for putting together really beautiful events. Maybe you want to be known for welcoming children into the world with love and helping families as they enter this next chapter of parenthood with grace and with ease, as you give them tools to help navigate it.
Speaker 2:What do you want to be known for? Do you want to be known for being really kind? Do you want to be known for being a problem solver? Do you want to be known for being really great with your words? What do you want to be known for? The reason why I think this question is so helpful is because when we ask the question, what do I want to be known for? And we answer it with sincerity. That's where our authentic power comes from. I'll say One of the things that I've been seeing a lot on social media now, and I deeply, deeply agree with, is that we are our most magnetic, we are our most powerful, we are the most attractive when we're doing the things that we love, the things that are authentically exciting to us, the things that bring us joy.
Speaker 2:Right, baking cream pies doesn't bring everybody joy, but there are a select handful of humans in this world where it's like, oh my gosh, all I want to do is make cream puffs all day and show you how to make the different kinds of creams for the cream puffs. And you can do it this way, or you can do it that way, or you can add this way, or you can add this season, and they just get so jazzed about that cream puff and that process. I think about that for some educators too, right, they could tell you oh yeah, my fourth grade was this year. We tell you oh yeah, my fourth grade was this year, we're doing this and this is a project that we're working on, and I'm so excited for their presentations because every single year, my students come out with new things. And so, for you, you want to be known for having a really engaging classroom that helps students get excited about the world, their world and about the things that they're going to do with the education and the knowledge that they've gained.
Speaker 2:Maybe that's what you want to be known for, but as we think about what we want to be known for, it helps us to also check in to am I showing up in alignment with what actually brings me joy when you think about what you want to be known for? I want to be known for being kind, and I want to be known for being a speaker, and I want to be known for having a killer podcast, and I want to be known for being a really good friend and I want to be known for making amazing events. Everybody loves my fall party every year. Right, you're thinking about all these things. The implication of that is are you showing up in alignment with what you want to be known for? If you want to be known for having a killer podcast, do you have a podcast? That's first and foremost. And if you have a podcast, how do you feel about it? Maybe you don't feel so great about it right now. What would make it killer? What is your definition of killer and how is your podcast in or out of alignment with your definition of killer when we think about what we want to be known for. Then we have a better idea of how we want to show up and if the ways that we have already been showing up are in alignment with what we want to be known for.
Speaker 2:But here's the second question. I also think that this one is powerful as well. Who do you want to be known by? Right, maybe you want to be known for having this killer podcast, or amazing chocolate pies or meringues or whatever. Who do you want to be known by? Maybe, for you, you want to be known for having that amazing garden, but for you, all you want to be known by Maybe, for you, you want to be known for having an amazing garden, but for you, all you want to be known by is your family. I want my husband to know me. I want my children to know me as their mom and as a gardener. I want those humans to know me, know me right. It really helps us to check in and see what relationships we are nurturing. Who do you want to be known by? That lets us know. That lets you know who in your life is important to you. And then, from there again, are you in alignment with those people Are you showing up in alignment with that desire? If you want to be known for having a beautiful garden and being a nurturing mother and you want to be known by your husband and children, do you bring them out to your garden? Do you tell them about what you're doing out there? Do you share with them the fruits of your labor? Do they know that you love gardening? Have you even started that process? Have you even opened up a conversation with it about it, with them?
Speaker 2:I find that when we and who do I want to be known by it can very clearly design a path for us, whether it's a career path or a personal path, right For me, very clearly, I want to be known for inspiring and helping people live their very best lives in a spiritual manner, in a mindful manner, in a practical manner. And who do I want to be known by? I want to be known by my husband. I want him to know the work that I do and why I do what I do. I want to be known by my husband. I want him to know the work that I do and why I do what I do. I want to be known by my sister and my best friends. I want them to know the work that I do and why I do it. And I want to be known by a community of like-minded women who want to grow themselves, who want to be stewards amongst their communities, stewards of love, stewards of companionship, stewards of forward thinking, stewards of solution mindedness. That's who I want to be known by. And when I think about those things amongst other things, right, I want to be known for being kind. I want to be known for being friendly. I want to be known for being funny, right. But when I think about all of these things and I combine it with who I want to be known by, it gives me a much clearer understanding of how I want to show up in the world. And again, I can check in and see huh, is the way I want to be known and who I want to be known by. Am I showing up in a way that would align with those people and those ideals, or am I not? Have I been actually trying to show up for other people's ideals? Have I been actually trying to show up for other people's ideals? Have I been thinking in the terms of what I think other people want from me and what I think the world wants of me and what I think I should be doing, versus what I truly want to be known for and who I truly want to be known by.
Speaker 2:Stop looking around. This is my offering to you. Stop looking around, looking for your offering to you. Stop looking around, looking for your answers outside of yourself.
Speaker 2:Pause, get your journal out, go to a quiet space and ask yourself these two questions what do I want to be known for? This goes hand in hand with your legacy. What is the legacy I want to live in? Again, this can feel really big, but it doesn't have to be. You can be known by your family for making really good food right. That is special and that is important.
Speaker 2:What is it to you that you want to leave a legacy of, and who do you want to leave that legacy for?
Speaker 2:Those are the questions we're asking today, and as you check in, just lovingly see all right now that I know what I want to be known for and who I want to be known by, am I showing up in a way that is in alignment with those things, with those people, or am I not? And if I'm not, what might I do differently now that would leave me feeling more in alignment with the person that I want to be and the people that I want to be known by. As always, my friends, take what sticks to you, leave the rest. This is recorded on a mountaintop with no scripts, so I hope that you enjoyed it. I will see you guys next week.
