The Bible Provocateur
BibleProvocateur is a podcast that refuses to let Scripture be tamed, sentimentalized, or softened for modern comfort. Here, the Bible is allowed to confront, unsettle, and provoke—just as it always has. Drawing deeply from Reformed theology, church history, and careful exegesis, this podcast presses hard questions about grace, law, repentance, faith, judgment, and the sovereignty of God.
Each episode engages Scripture with historical depth and theological honesty, interacting with Reformers, Puritans, and classic commentators while challenging popular assumptions in contemporary Christianity. This is not reactionary outrage or shallow controversy—it’s principled provocation, aimed at exposing error, sharpening doctrine, and calling the church back to a robust, God-centered faith.
If you’re tired of devotional fluff, allergic to theological clichés, and convinced the Bible still has the authority to offend before it comforts, BibleProvocateur is for you. Come ready to think carefully, repent deeply, and worship a God who refuses to be domesticated.

Testimony Tuesday: Audrey Tyson (Part 3/3)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A soft voice can still be a refusal to hear the truth, and we don’t want to confuse “nice” with “faithful.” We start by calling out the spiritual marketplace behind prosperity gospel preaching and modern “prophet” culture, then we pivot into something far more personal: Tyson’s testimony and the kind of encouragement that lands right where it’s needed.
We talk about what it looks like to examine ourselves without spiraling into shame, how forgiveness grows out of remembering how much we’ve been forgiven, and why worth isn’t something the world gets to assign. From there, the conversation sharpens around biblical truth and division. We challenge the idea that division is automatically bad by looking at how God separates light from darkness, and we name the real culprit behind destructive division: lies. That leads to a practical discipleship question many Christians avoid, whether we actually take Christ’s commands like orders or keep trying to rewrite them to fit our comfort.
The night also holds space for healing. A therapy practice of writing to your childhood self becomes a gospel exercise, asking how you’d speak hope to the version of you that endured trauma. We talk about how salvation changes purpose from serving self to serving others, and we share worship, nerves, and the courage to keep showing up with humility. We close by reflecting on why people chase counterfeits when they don’t press into the deep things of God, then we end in prayer for boldness, sanctification, and lives that stay at Jesus’ feet.
If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs steady truth, and leave a review. What’s one line you would write to your younger self today?
BE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Prosperity Gospel Called Out
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so with the whole Joel O scene and I think Bethel was like trying to do a school to teach people how to be a prophet, you know, and so I there was some pastors who just were fed up with it. And so they did a documentary on the falseness of the prosperity gospel and a lot of these pastors they call out by name. It's a it's a wonderful series. I think there's like three. It's like um three documentaries. You gotta watch them, they're really good.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you never heard of that before. But uh anybody else have did I miss anybody? Anybody else have something they want to add or ask our sister?
SPEAKER_04I want to add something. I just I just want to brag on you for a second. I have been so blessed to be with you as much as I am. And I have we all have just this group that God has so beautifully put together through all the the division from other people, and and he has left us with such a solid group of people, and you are one of them, and you you mean so much to me. You have blessed me in so many ways, and we've seen we've witnessed the sides of Tyson, but I'm gonna tell you something about you. You are one person that no matter what happens, there's one thing that you have taught me, and that is to really learn how to examine yourself, and you talk about it all the time, and you know why you talk about it? Because you do it, you do it a lot, and it seems like no matter what comes your way, no matter who's right or wrong, you know how much you have been forgiven, and you forgive others, and you examine yourself, and you know, so many times, like we were having a conversation earlier today, when you were like, you know, I try to, I always find myself in a place where I have to prove that I'm worthy. And you know what? I'm gonna tell you something. God has qualified you as worthy, and you just continue. It it is not the world that qualifies you, sister. It is God Almighty who qualifies you to do everything that you do, and it is by his grace that you have made it out so beautifully in this world that was ready to eat you alive. And by the grace of God, you are here giving your testimony. And so far, you have survived 100% of your worst days. And as you're sitting here today, again, you have blessed me. You have blessed all of the people that we fellowship with every single day. You are you are such a joy. There is something about your smile, something about your laugh. I look forward to it every morning when I wake up. And I know that if you're in the room, the gospel and the word of God will be defended right alongside each and every one of us. And you, and just like Jonathan said, you will not waver, you are not shaken by the things of this world. And I know that the Lord is just smiling down upon you, sister. And I love you so much, and I want you to know that. And I know that each and every one of us feel the exact same way, and whatever you're going through, the Lord is always gonna bring you through because you trust him and you rest in him. And so, you know, your business that you have built so beautifully, y'all. If y'all want some good soap, this sister right here, go on her page, and it is wonderful. And he has blessed your hands to make it, and you you use your business to glorify God and the people that you come into contact with in your business, and he has he has given you increase because you have been a good steward with the things that he have has given you, sister. And I love you so much, and I I know everybody feels the same way. So I really wanted you to know that.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_07Hold on, so go ahead. Hold on one second, because Meg, um, I said I was not gonna cry and I'm not, okay.
SPEAKER_08But Meg, you I look for you every day too. Like, I've been texting you like, come here, come there, come here. Your passion. I feel like we ping-pong off each other very well, and I absolutely adore you. If I had a sister in real life, I would hope that it would be you, somebody like you.
SPEAKER_04So you do, sister. We're sisters by blood. That's why I tell Jonathan all the time, we're I'm your sister by blood. You're not getting rid of me. Real blood, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ that was shed for every single one of us.
Patience With People Who Resist
SPEAKER_01She and she's right, she she won't go away, so you might as well just listen to quiz, sister Meg. Uh Sister Vanessa, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I just, well, first of all, I want to say, you know, you're a beautiful person inside and out. And how do you speak of the sovereignty of God blesses everyone? And what would you think if you had somebody that you know that speaks God's word all the time and then was afraid to speak the truth to somebody that didn't want to hear it?
SPEAKER_08Um what what what would I say to somebody who didn't want to hear it?
SPEAKER_02What would you think about somebody that okay, somebody that you think is a very good Christian and that speaks truth a lot of most of the time and then all of a sudden you see something that that person doesn't want to open up to people that don't understand.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02What would you think about that?
SPEAKER_08So in the scripture, the parable Jesus is talking about, you know, if there's a tree that's not bearing fruit, you know, why make it use up the soil? And then he says, you know, kind of give it three years and then another. And then if it doesn't bear fruit, then you can throw it away. You know. So I think that's encouraging us to be patient, be compassionate, be understanding, stand on truth, but also understand that we're called to walk hand in hand with our brothers and sisters. Maybe they're carrying burdens that we're unaware of. You know, there's all kinds of things that come into play with people hanging on to their flesh. And, you know, if we're honest, we were the same way and probably still are struggling with fleshly things. And so I would just encourage you to let God be God and kind of grow in understanding when you are to step aside and let God shake them up, or you know, when is it, when are you called to walk with them and and try to teach them? But I would probably think that they're depraved just like everybody else. We all are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we all are, that's for sure. Brother Pat.
Why Truth Separates By Design
SPEAKER_00I want to say something based upon like to Vanessa. Vanessa, one of the biggest lies in our society is that division is inherently bad. Well, well, that's pretty interesting because what's one of the first things God does? He separates the light from the darkness, he divides the water, he separates the sheep and the goat, the wheat and the terrors. And I'm gonna tell you something. When we talk about ungodly division, right, very often people will say, well, listen, you just shouldn't, you shouldn't tell people the truth because you've got to understand a lot of people have had different perspectives, and for the sake of getting along, you just should you should mute yourself and you know you don't want to be arrogant. Let me tell you something. It's lies that cause the bad kind of division, not the truth. So if somebody comes along and blames the truth for division, that person's a snake. I'm gonna tell you, that's a snake in the grass. That's a false brother right there. That type of person. That's an accuser of the brethren. That is what that is. We need to see that for what it is. God's people hear his voice and they rejoice in the truth. They're not enemies of the truth. So I don't care how religious a person pretends to be, how soft-spoken, how kind they appear to be on the outside. If they are an enemy of truth, they are none of his. Amen, brother.
SPEAKER_02I agree. I just wanted to ask the question what other people thought. Thank you, brother.
Taking Orders From Christ
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, that's good. That's excellent. I'll I'll tell you something else, because sister, you you know, having been in the military uniform, like I have, and some of us have, and you've been also in an officer uniform or police officer's uniform, and so you understand what it means when you get an order. And when you get an order, you don't get the liberty of trying to interpret that order in your own way. You know, when when you you when you get an order, you take it just as it is and do just what you were told. And see, and and the thing is, somehow, there's, you know, amongst us, those of us who call ourselves Christians, we don't abide by that when it comes to the Lord of glory. When it comes to the Lord Jesus Christ, people think that we can just lollygag with his word and and take whatever his commands are and do whatever we want to do it or do it our way. That's not how it goes. That's not how it goes. If there's anyone, you know, we took orders from our our older siblings. If you had older siblings, you took old orders from your your parents, you know, grandparents, uh, you know, elders in your family. You take everybody takes orders from their bosses at their jobs. And they will, you people will do, they will do whatever that boss tells them so they can be assured of getting that paycheck. But yet, when it comes to Christ, who grants them an inheritance, making them a joint heir with him and the heir of his father, they don't want to listen to him. So these people that call themselves Christians, they don't want to hear about depravity. They don't follow orders, they don't want to hear about election, they don't follow orders, they don't want to hear about perseverance of the saints and what it they don't want to hear about these things because they are incapable of following orders because they are still breeding rebellious spirits. It's a rebellious spirit. And so that's why when when when we speak these things, that these truths, they may be hard for us to speak, but it's hard only because of it, should only be hard, only because we know how it's gonna affect that soul when they hear these things. But when we understand that we were commanded to preach God's whole counsel, we understand that that command from Him overrides everything, especially those who might resist what we're saying, they might attack us for saying it. So once again, I'm just telling you, just you keep doing what you're doing because you are on the right track and your and your understanding is on the right track and and and never be apologetic. And that's how you are now. Never be apologetic for it. Stay that way. Stay that way, sister.
Call Someone And Encourage Them
SPEAKER_08Definitely. It's good to be encouraged. I appreciate your encouragement. When you called me the other day, it hit different. And so when you called, it meant a lot. It hit right where it was supposed to. And encouragement like that is it matters. So I just encourage all of you, if you're thinking about a brother or sister, pick up the phone, call and encourage them. Because it might they they might be needing it, you know what I mean? We need that kind of stuff. So I appreciate how you reached out and doing that. And I have one request since this is my show today. Evie, can you Evie, can you save me a song?
SPEAKER_06You're so stinking cute. Listen, I would absolutely love to, but one thing I want to ask you, and I Pat, you had your hand up. Did you get a chance to say something? Because I don't want to take your spot, but I have one more thing to say. I don't know if he said anything.
SPEAKER_01Well, go ahead, Evie. We'll get back to Pat if he if he if he's ready.
Writing To Your Younger Self
SPEAKER_06Let me think first before I ask you something real quick. I have one quick question for you. One of the ways that people heal from their past in therapy that they give you kind of like homework to do, one of the ones that really do kind of like homework to do. That was a bad echo. They give you homework and they say, write a letter to your childhood, like whatever big trauma. I went through big trauma when I was 10. So they had me write a letter to that little girl, and my therapist was a counselor. So, I mean, she was a believer. She's a firm believer, performed, she was amazing. So, if you wanted to start that letter in two sentences, how would you write your letter? Like, what would the wording in the beginning of your letter be to that little girl sharing the gospel with her today?
SPEAKER_08To know that even though it didn't feel like it, to know that God was protecting me the whole time. The whole time I was being all those times I was seeking out just somebody to care enough to protect me, he was protecting me the whole time. And to know that that was a fact.
SPEAKER_06Good. Okay, I'm ready for you if you're ready for me.
SPEAKER_01Wait, hold on one second, if you don't mind, hold on one second.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01One second. I want to let Miss White ask you a question and then Pat, and then after that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, hold on, let me see if I can get her back up. Sister White, can you come up and ask real quick, please, sister?
SPEAKER_01Y'all wanted to get her because that's before she had to leave.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because she has to go to bed.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_08My husband and kids are beating on my door trying to tell me hurry up.
SPEAKER_01All right. Well, well, well, Pat real quick, and then Evie, and then we'll be done.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so Tyson, you're saved now. What now? Spray the good news. Amen, sister. Because that's the that's the next thing I think a lot of Christians don't think about is of is I'm saved. And has that changed my purpose or my goal in life? Like you you you get what I'm saying, right? Like before I was saved, I had all sorts of plans. I'm gonna do this and that and the other thing. Has that changed?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so before it was service myself, and now it's others are higher, uh right. Um to view others. So it served my family, it served to the, you know, to their what's good for them, uh, my husband, my kids. So yeah, it shifted everything. I mean, everything. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Man Sister Evie?
A Song And The Gift Of Worship
SPEAKER_06Yes, you gave me time to search a particular song just for you. So this song reminds me of it. I just this came to my mind when I thought about your testimony.
SPEAKER_05So when I consider what you have made, the mighty oceans, the fiery stars, the fields and forest they give you praise my lay I stand I stand of you when I consider what you have done I see your suffer I see your scars all the wonder and all the love my love my god I love you all glory or lana or worship and praise or blessings or power is yours O glory O laner all worship is yours I stand in I stand in I stand of you I man Sister Evie Thank you for giving being so generous with your voice with all of us.
SPEAKER_01We love you so much for that, and and I gotta imagine because you have great control with that voice of yours. I can only imagine what it sounds like live if you sound this good over over Wi-Fi. But thank you so much for that, sister. And hopefully, Sister Evie, I can persuade you to come up here and do your give your testimony to us if you would one of these days. Just think about it.
SPEAKER_06I would love to.
SPEAKER_01I would love to. Well, I I'm gonna write to you today, and I'm you know, I'm gonna see when the last one is, but it's on a Tuesday. If you can do it, and then uh and we'll arrange it because I would love to have you give your testimony if you would do that.
Nerves, Butterflies, And Faithfulness
SPEAKER_06Amen. And I'm so shocked that you guys, every time I sing, I don't know if you guys know, I get so nervous, even when I'm at church, I get so nervous, and everybody always says, we never can tell. And I'm like, I'd be shaken up there. The one day I was so sweaty, guys. I was like sweating profusely because I was so nervous. Oh, it's terrible.
SPEAKER_01You know, you know, the funny thing, let me tell you something, sister, I understand it because believe it or not, you guys probably get a kick out of this, but I I know I said it before, but every time I do these lives, the the last the five minutes before I go live are nerve-wracking for me. I'm telling you, nerve-wracking. It's I I get really nervous, and then my wife will tell you. And so, and then right when I sit down, when I think I'm ready to go, when I'm ready to go, I gotta get up and go to the bathroom with the, you know, the you know, the nervous, you know. But I know what you mean, sister. I know exactly what you mean. Who's that? Brother uh Pat. You're gonna say something.
SPEAKER_00Well, I just wanted to say to Evie, when I was uh, you know, I was a leasing art of Ben. I don't know if you know that, Evie, but the day I knew it was over for me was I had no butterflies. In fact, I felt nothing when I went on stage. And I knew I'm like, okay, that's it. I'm done. It's time for me to stop. So it's not necessarily a bad thing. That nervous, you know what I mean? It's not necessarily all bad. I just I just want to say that to you. Thank you for that.
SPEAKER_06So it says same to you, same to you, brother Jonathan. The time is up and you don't get nerves anymore. The Lord's like, okay, we're gonna sit on down, brother.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, keep keep those butterflies. Brother Pep, you mind closing this out? And because I I know that Tyson needs to get to her family. So look.
SPEAKER_00Do you have to go right now, Tyson? Do I have time for a last word? Jonathan, Tyson can sing too.
SPEAKER_08You can go ahead, uh, Pat.
Deep Things Of God Versus Counterfeits
SPEAKER_00Oh, it it can sing. Is it okay? I want to say something about Tyson's life. When I was saying, you know, earlier that there's a wall of God's sovereignty and the serious things of God, you know, are behind that wall. I thank God that that that gate was open to you, Sister Tyson. But before that, you were in witchcraft, right? And then you got into prosperity. And I just want people to see something that Tyson is a living example of. When you don't have the deep things of God, man seeks other things. And this is a way of understanding religion in general. When you think of modern day shallow Arminian Christianity, they don't have the sovereignty of God and the mysteries that lie beyond. So what do they have? Worldly experiences. The charismatics movements, they don't have any of the deep things of God. So they have to generate emotions and talk about dreams and prophecies. What about super serious people like the medieval Catholics? They were, you had some really brilliant thinkers, right? But they also rejected the deep things of God. So what what did they have to do? Pursue idol worship. And they fell into idolatry. And so I just want to point out something. In in Tyson's case, it was witchcraft. It was it prosperity gospel that she came in contact with. This is something for all of us to learn, you know, from. We must press into God, or else we're gonna press into something very terrible.
SPEAKER_07Amen, Pat.
SPEAKER_00Right. Right, brother. Amen. You want to close this out, brother? Jonathan, would it be possible for Meg to do it? Sure. Sure, sure. That's it.
SPEAKER_01That's just enough to say it. Meg, you want to close this out?
SPEAKER_04I can't believe you said that, Pat, because I was just thinking I'd love to pray tonight.
SPEAKER_00I sensed it. I honestly was that. I know how much you love this sister, and I just, yeah, it would it would be fitting.
Prayer, Testimony, And Sending Out
SPEAKER_04Wow. Thank you, Lord. Thank you. Dear Heavenly Father, again another prayer and a moment with you, Lord, to just give you glory and honor and praise and I thank you. And I'm so grateful for my sister coming up here and being yet bold again in your in her story, Heavenly Father, that you have what the world may look like ashes to some, Lord God. You have turned to absolute beauty. And Lord God, I thank you for her. I thank you for how you are growing her each and every day and how she blesses us, Lord God, with her strength that you have so graciously given her, Lord God. And and Lord, I just thank you for just this group of people that you have so graciously and so intimately handpicked for all of us to be together each and every day, like we do. Lord, you have given not only myself, but I think the others the true understanding of what Jesus meant when he said, Who is my mother, who is my father, but those who do the will of my father, those are my family. And Lord God, I couldn't ask for a better family that you have completely and utterly blessed us with, Lord God. And I just thank you for everything that you're doing in and through each and every one of us, Heavenly Father. As we continue to seek ye first your kingdom and your righteousness, and Lord God, we know that all of those things lined up in your will, Lord God, will be added unto us. And Lord, we are just so grateful. And Lord, I kinda I want to say the same prayer that that Tyson prays, Lord God. And that is whatever you have to do in our lives, Heavenly Father, to keep us at your feet. Lord God, I ask that not only from myself, but I ask that on behalf of all my brothers and sisters, because I know that they have the desire to do the same. That whatever we may go through in life, Heavenly Father, that you keep us in a place that is ultimately surrendered to your will and your purpose that you have in us. Lord, in our lives where sometimes your voice may be quiet, Heavenly Father, if you know that our ears are not hearing at the moment, Lord God, please make your voice louder. Because we are your sheep, Lord, and we know not another voice. Sometimes the world just gets so loud, Lord God, that I just pray that you just continue to be the one solid voice that we all hear. And Lord God, if at any moment that it's not, please, please, Lord God, be louder. Please be your voice that always leads us and guides us into your truth and comforts us and gives us the opportunity to comfort those and comfort others who need to hear you, Heavenly Father. And Lord, as you have given us the grace to preach your gospel and proclaim it, it's not something that can be defended, it's not something that can be objective, it's the one thing that is true. And Lord, I continue to ask each and every one of us to give us the boldness that we need to continue for this journey and the sanctification while we are being conformed into the image of your Son, Heavenly Father. And I truly believe you, Lord God, when the word says that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, because the testimonies that we've been hearing the past couple weeks have blessed each and every one of us because we all have a story. And although sometimes the story doesn't start with you, Lord God, it certainly ends with you. It ends how you rescue us, it ends in how you save us, it ends and by your grace and by your grace alone, Lord God, there was nothing that we could do, but it was simply just by your spirit that you have so graciously drawn those unto yourself, Heavenly Father, to where our hearts are now a heart of flesh that wants to do your will and wants to love you the best way that we possibly know how, that is only enabled by your grace and your son. Lord God, we just thank you for that, Heavenly Father. Lord, I I thank you, I glorify you, Lord God. I surrender to your will. I pray Isaiah 6.8 over each and every one of us tonight, Lord God. And it says, Here I am, Lord. Simply send me. I'll be the ear that hears, I'll be the voice that speaks, Lord God. I will be the one that will be alone. And if I'm alone in this world, Lord God, if nothing else, I have you. And that's all we ever need, and that's all we will ever need, Lord God. And so I just thank you that you are our ever-present help in our time of need, Lord God. That you have always provided a way, Lord God, that you're that your protection and the and the as we learned in Job, that this supernatural protection that you have over our lives makes us invincible in your sight. And thank you once more, Lord, for making us righteous. Because you were the only one that could do it. Because apart from you, Lord God, we can do nothing. And I thank you for that. I pray all of these things, Lord, as we sleep tonight, Heavenly Father, let us all be blessed. Let us continue to have the hunger and desire for your word that leads us and guides us into all truth, Lord. Help us live surrendered lives, being sanctified by your mercy. I give all glory and honor and praise to you and no other name but the name of Jesus.
Final Blessing And Good Night
SPEAKER_03Amen.
SPEAKER_01That will be it.
SPEAKER_04Amen. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for that. Is the choir sleep?
SPEAKER_08I only have one of them with me. Hold on. You say good night.
SPEAKER_01Wow, that's a pretty powerful.
unknownGood night.
SPEAKER_01Good night, Lou.
SPEAKER_05Hallelujah. Love you.
SPEAKER_01I love that. I love that. That's the best part of the night. Oh my gosh. That's fantastic. Well, everybody, thank you so much, Sister Tyson, for taking the time and sharing with us your life. Appreciate you, sister, and keep doing what the Lord is leading you to do. God bless you.
SPEAKER_04Amen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, God bless this group of people. We've all been here for each other. For some reason, God is blessing us. And I'm I cannot be more grateful. And I'm sure many of you feel the same way. So have a great night, Sister Tyson. We love you, sister. Keep doing what you're doing. God bless you all. Be provoked and be persuaded.
SPEAKER_07Good night, everyone.
