Job didn’t need a new God. He needed a clearer view of the God he already served and that clarity led him straight to repentance. We walk through Job 42 and sit with an uncomfortable question: if Job repents after years of faithful obedience, why do some voices insist a born-again Christian should never repent again? We press that claim against Scripture, against sanctification, and against real life, where pride and self-justification can creep in quietly.

One of the most compelling moments is Lisa’s fresh testimony about getting overwhelmed by what feels like nonstop darkness in the world: disease scares, rising costs, and the kind of fear that spirals into anger and despair. In prayer, she hears the Lord’s gentle but direct correction: “Are you grumbling? Am I not your provider?” That exchange becomes a map for Christian anxiety, helping us name what’s happening in our hearts and return to trust in God’s providence and protection.

We also dig into the danger of spiritual-sounding certainty. Job’s friends speak with confidence and end up completely wrong about God’s character and motives. That turns into a practical conversation about discernment: how to evaluate pastors and teachers, why style is not evidence of truth, and why subtle sins still require honest repentance. If you want a deeper understanding of repentance, humility, the sovereignty of God, and biblical peace, listen through to the end and join the discussion. Why We Want Things Our Way

SPEAKER_00

You know, kind of have us reflect on that matter in our personal lives.

SPEAKER_05

Right. I mean, how many times, how many times have we all heard when somebody called us or something like that? How come you need to call me back? It's like, well, I'm calling you right now. You know, you get you get these things, and it's just crazy, but man has this, we we have this this thing where we feel like things need to go our way and things need to go according to our will. See, this is that human nature. This is that human nature that needs to be purged and that we die to daily. And before I get to Lisa, I want to say one more thing. Because I believe it was, I can't remember who it was, I think it was Vanessa. Yeah, that brought up about how, because we read in the earlier verses how Job says he repents in verse 6. Wherefore I have worn myself and repent in dust and ashes. Now listen to this for a second.

Job 42 And The Need To Repent

SPEAKER_05

Because I'm sure many of you are going to know what I'm talking about when I ask this question. We know that before this discussion, right now, in chapter 42, we all know that Job was a God-believing man, that he was a servant of the Lord. We know we all have said it long enough. He revered God, he was perfect in God's sight, etc., etc. But notice here, it says here that he repented. Right? He repented. Now, I've been hearing these guys on these other lives and posts talking about and making this stupid argument that if you have been born again, you should no longer need to ask for, you should no longer need to have to repent. There's no more repentance needed. What do we learn here? Job repented. And Job was a saved man before he repented over this issue. Job, after believing for so long, and who knows how long, Job is put in a position having made, having made leveled basically an attack against the Lord for how he is handling his own providence. And Job has to repent. And he has to repent because he doesn't recognize, he's not recognizing God's sovereignty. We can turn and go into anybody's life tonight or go into anybody's church or whatever today, and we will see how many Christians, supposed Christians, that hate the sovereignty of God. They read a passage that deals with predestination, which is clear. And there's only one thing worse than speaking about something that God hasn't spoken about. And the only thing worse than that is speaking against something he has clearly stated. You see what I mean? This this is even worse. To have something that God has actually said, and to have unbelieving Christians rebel against it is insanity. It's absolute insanity. Job is being put in his place and repenting because he spoke about things that were too high for him, too wonderful for him to understand. And it says he repented. So first off, we have him acknowledging his the God's sovereignty. He acknowledges that God knows what's in all men and that nothing that men think can be withheld from God. Then he repents, acknowledging his ignorance. He realizes that he should put his hand over his mouth and say nothing that God has not spoken about. But what I wanted to point out was this whole thing, this whole idea about repentance. Because now there seems to be this new doctrine going around that a true Christian should never have to repent. This one guy, Johnny Chang, this is one of his major tenets. He loves to talk about this. He loves to say this over and over again because he thinks he makes it think he makes he he it makes him feel like he's some kind of a spiritual guru and a spiritual superman. And it's ridiculous. We are we always need to repent. If we have nothing to repent of, then what is the purpose of sanctification and what is sanctification? But the acknowledgement, the awareness of the wrongs that we have done. Yes, we know that God has forgiven us of our sins. Yes, we know that Christ took and bore our sins on Calvary. But we also know that we are mortifying sin in the flesh until we shake off this raggedy, wretched tent, which is this body that is still waiting for its change to happen. So it is important for us to be able to recognize, because this is what it means to become holy as He is, to recognize what sin is, to recognize how awful it is, and to recognize the depths of it, of how offensive it is to our God. It is nothing wrong with repentance. We should always repent when we have done wrong to our brother, to our sister, and to our Lord. Always. These people that are going around saying that if you repent, if you're repenting, then if something is wrong or flawed in your salvation, and perhaps you may not even have it. Because a true Christian has already been forgiven for all of their sins. So why should you repent? Don't fall into this. We need to recognize when sin is being done, even if it's in our own hearts. Sister Lisa, go ahead.

Lisa On Grumbling And God’s Patience

SPEAKER_02

Well, I just I'm I just wanted to share a little bit, a small testimony to the goodness of our Lord and the patience. And it kind of has to go along with the way the Lord is rebuking Job here. So you know me, I struggle with the you know, the evil in our world today. I've had, you know, I've shared that before. And recently I've I've sort of let the you know, the Hontavirus, the now Ebola virus, the gas prices, the data centers everywhere, you know, just this wickedness overcome me. And I've I found myself complaining and not understanding why can't you see people see? Why can't they see? And I while I was in prayer, I literally, this is our God, He's so good. You know, I'm all worked up, I'm so worked up, Lord, Lord, and he's like, Are you grumbling? You know, I have hurt, you know, and I I think am I and he said, Are you are you you are you grumbling again about gas prices and about he said, Am I not your provider? Right, you know, you're not of this world. Why are you concerned with the things of this world? Am I not your protection? Am I not the one who preserves your life? Am I not the only one who gives life and the only one who takes life? And just all these things were flooding into my mind and and I just like I've I was overwhelmed. Sorry. This is very, this is very fresh. I was overwhelmed and mad at myself because he's I'm gonna say, yeah, God was right. Of course he's right. It's like here I am, I'm a professing believer and telling everyone else to trust God, trust him, it doesn't matter what happens, and I found myself not trusting. But he didn't say, Lisa, you're an idiot or you're a dummy. He just reminded me so gently, and it was so beautiful, and it's like he's doing with Job. Gosh, we are so blessed, you guys, to be his children, to be his. Because it doesn't matter what, even in death, you know, we're not, you know, he reminded me of this in COVID. I will not leave this earth one second before he is already ordained, nor will I be here one second longer. And so all this anxiety that, you know, I want to say the enemy, or even my own flesh puts on my mind is just a lie. And he was so kind in just bringing it all back, like just reeling me in, because man, I've missed you guys. I have, I've just, you know, I've been had this to to hear these things. And it's so easy for me to get in my flesh and get, you know, I had to repent. I'm not gonna share those things. I don't I have shared them. You've probably seen some of my reposts. I'm no longer gonna do that. And I I I'm just his will be done.

SPEAKER_04

Amen.

SPEAKER_05

Amen, sister, amen.

SPEAKER_02

I know that's that's just it. I thank you for letting me share that because he's so, so good. And man, I just fall more in love with him every single day, you know.

SPEAKER_05

Yep, that's the way it should be, sister, because I know exactly what you're talking about. It it it is it is astounding because it is so we're so we can be so quick, like you said, to fall away from that understanding that we have that we have been so adamant about educating others to come to the conclusion of and understand. And then and and and some but then we fall ourselves slipping and going, like, wait a minute, how'd that happen? I've been telling other people about this, and here I am falling into the same trap. And but see, this is this is what happens, and this is why we are always to be on watch and on guard over our own hearts. This is what we're supposed to do. And and so it's a it's a great uh testimony, sister Lisa, and I and I appreciate you telling it. I really do. Because I think we all need to do this. And notice Job, he's not a silly man. He's an advanced man in his understanding and in his time from all accounts. And and and the thing is, and it also shows that even the best of us, even the most knowledgeable among us, there are so many things that we have yet to learn. And it's so easy for us to miss an opportunity to glorify God and just and just in just being still when he is being still, when he is being quiet. When he's still, we should be still. When he's quiet, we should be quiet. And and and just wait, and just wait and trust him to know to do what he is going to do because we know that it's always gonna work out for our good. We always know that. Brother Jeffrey and then Pat.

The Subtle Sins We Miss

SPEAKER_06

Jonathan, as I've gotten older, I one of the many things God has shown me in repentance is the fact that we do not understand always the depth, the breadth, and the subtlety of our sins. Now we we we we keep our eyes focused, Jonathan, on the big stuff you know, that that we that we deal with. Okay, fine. Right? We we pay attention to that. But when God draws our attention to some small or subtle sin that's just as hurtful to him as our big sin, but we don't pay much mind to it, what happens? We're the ones that are telling God, you know what, I know just as well as you do how bad my sin is. No, we don't.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_06

When he says we're guilty of sin, end of story. There is no but God repent. That's all there is. Seek mercy, seek grace. That is all there is. That that that pastor or preacher you were talking about a moment ago telling people that if they're not if they have to repent, if something's wrong. Oh no, no, no, no, no. That that's just messed up, Jonathan. I mean, repentance should always be part of what it happens in our lives. Are we gonna be perfect? No. But are we gonna continue to strive to be more like Jesus? Absolutely. That's where our struggle is. Being more like him. Hallelujah. Amen, brother. Brother Pat.

Choosing Teachers For Truth

SPEAKER_03

Well, Jonathan, since you're back, we might as well hurt some people's feelings and stomp all over some traditions of men, right? Since we're here gathered today, might as well do that. Another thing to be learned here from this section is you have the three friends, and they spoke from their own understanding, and as a result, it was 100% wrong. They were coming from men, in fact, it's well representative. One of them came from a theological, one was a pragmatist. You had the they sort of represent the whole of human wisdom in a way, and they were all coming from man's understanding, they're all wrong. And then you have Job, who's right about most things, but time he aired is when he came from his own understanding. And when he fell, I think he got sucked in, or or you called it last time we were together, caught up. He got caught up in the argument with his friends, right? I think that there's a lesson to be learned also concerning pastors. And let me just make this point really quick. You better be you careful who you listen to, and that it's for the right reasons.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Because a lot of these pastors out here, they just sound like pastors.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_03

T. D. Jakes, he just sounds like a pastor, right? Creflow Dollar, he knows how to speak like a pastor, right? He looks like one.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Right? They they have the style, they have the things to it get you excited, they have all these other things, right? But if I want to say this, if you like John MacArthur because he looks and sounds like a pastor, which he did, he didn't have that, that's not the right reason. Or if it's Vodibakum, because for every one of those man qualities, even if it's Spurgeon and his ability to spin a word, right? Which is which we love. Well, you ever heard of William Shakespeare? The devil has secular people that do it even better, right? It's truth. Right. It has to be truth that we seek. All these other things that are appealing to us, style, right? The sound, the way they make you feel, they will lead you wrong. Right. They will betray you, they will lead you into falsehood, and the only way is to receive revelation from God, or else you're doomed. So be careful who you're listening to and examine why do I like this person? Right. What is it about them? And it shouldn't be a personality trait, it shouldn't be the sound of their voice, it shouldn't be any of those things. It should be the truthfulness of God that causes the spirit in you to rejoice in truth.

SPEAKER_04

Amen, brother. Absolutely truth. Absolute truth there. Sister Sean.

Perfect Peace Through Humble Trust

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I was just thinking about Isaiah 26 and 3. It says that he'll keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusted in thee. And I was just thinking about how, you know, body sickness and mind sickness, it's all a result of sin sickness. And we have the realization that there's only one physician and that the doctor knows more about my condition than I do. And I think Joe began to realize that my maker knows me, you know. He said, I whore myself. You know, I spoke things that were too wonderful for me. You know, my my my finite understanding. And, you know, sometimes we have to humble ourselves that we don't know everything. Despite what, you know, people will tell you that you can know everything. No, you can never know everything. God is truly a mystery. And so I was just, that was my thought.

SPEAKER_05

No, it's good thoughts, too. You know, it it is, you know, it like Joe, it says that he it says that he repented in dust and ashes, and we all know that the that the repentance and and in dust and ashes according to their culture was was it symbolizes the exercise of humility, showing humility, true humility. And the only way that you would do that, or the only reason that you would do that, is if you've exhibited pride. And so Job, by his humility, he acknowledges that he was prideful, that his assessments were prideful. And now he's been brought low. And in just the in in just the first six verses of this of this last chapter, Job expresses his acknowledgement of his ignorance, his he expresses his acknowledgement of God's sovereignty, that he knows all things, and that what he gets and what he wills, he always gets. He acknowledges his control over all his providence, over all his creation, and that he sees to it. Job acknowledges all these things in six verses. And notice in verse 7 the Lord moves on now.

God Rebukes The Three Friends

SPEAKER_05

The Lord got what he wanted from Job. Job repented. It took him six verses. Now we don't know what the time looked like there, but I'm saying six verses, and it's over. This is how good our God is. He doesn't linger. When we come to the point where we recognize that he's good and that we were wrong, that we need to exercise humility, then once once that humility and that for and that repentance is sincere, the Lord moves on. He doesn't continue, he doesn't continue to punch us, to punch down on us. So in verse 7, it says, and it was so after Job spoke, and it was so, and after the Lord has spoken these words unto Job, which came prior to Job's repentance, it says, the Lord spoke, said to Eliphaz, the Temenite, My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. Therefore, take unto you now seven bullocks, seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for him will I accept, lest I deal with you after or according to your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Namathite went and they did according as the Lord commanded them, and the Lord accepted Job. Now I want you to notice something at the outset here. And then I think I got Meg next. Yeah, and then Meg can go next. I want you to notice the first thing here is that God tells Job's three friends that they had not spoken of him, the thing that is right. They didn't speak about God, the thing that was right. And then on the flip side, God tells them, You didn't, you didn't speak of me the thing which is right, as my servant Job has done. And it's an amazing thing here. Because he's he's he he's because you know they were going around telling Job that these things or that the reason of his afflictions was because of this perspective about Job that God has. And they were wrong. And this is what we have all been acknowledging all along. See, they were accusing God, they were accusing God of exercising wrath against Job because of his sin that warranted. The affliction. And this is how they were speaking wrong about God. You see? And but when it came to Job's understanding about God and what he's saying, God comes to his Job's rescue again, and he says, My servant, he spoke correctly of me, and God says it twice here. He says it twice here. I want to see what some of you think. Sister Meg, we'll start with you. Go ahead, sister.

Septuagint Fire And Real Consequences

SPEAKER_01

Man, I I've got to read you these three verses out of the Septuagint because it's even more harsh.

SPEAKER_05

I know you're shaking in your boots on this one. Go ahead. I want to hear it.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's fire. It says, verse 7 through 9. It says, and it happened after the Lord spoke all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temenite, You and your friends have sinned. For you did not speak before me anything is true, like my servant Job. But now take seven calves and rams and go forth to my servant Job, and he shall make a burnt offering for you, and Job, my servant, shall pray for you. Because except that I receive his face, except for his sake, perhaps I might destroy you. For you did not speak the truth concerning my servant Job. Then Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuite and Zophar the Nammonite went forth and did as the Lord ordered them, and he released their sin because of Job. Now, the the reason why when I read this, I was flabbergasted was because the entire time these three friends were accusing them, him, of some hidden sin.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

But when God breaks forth, he directly tells his friends, you have sinned. And if it wasn't for your friend Job, I would destroy you.

SPEAKER_04

Yep. Yep.

SPEAKER_01

You know, and so what I think is fire in this, and what is revealed in the Septuagint, because in the in the other version, it doesn't say directly that they sinned, but here it says they have sinned.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

And and I think that is so powerful because this retributive theology, these cases that were they were making against Job the entire time, now God says before them, it was you that sinned.

SPEAKER_04

That's right.

SPEAKER_01

And now you are going to go to Job because if you don't, I'm gonna destroy you.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Could you imagine being being in that moment, knowing that you have done this to somebody who that was supposedly your friend, but then God Almighty comes to you and said, It's you that have sinned.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Now do this.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Man, that that was just fire to me when I read it.

SPEAKER_05

I was just No, when you brought when you when we talked when we talked about this a week or so ago, when you brought up that I went and looked at, I went and looked at the Septuagint on that too. You're right, it's very strong. And it and it and it's true. And you know, and that part where he says, My wrath is kindled against you. You know, imagine hearing those words. Imagine hearing those words from God. My wrath is kindled against you. And all you have left to do is to say, What can I do? What can I do? But God doesn't give them a chance to speak. He tells them, like you said, like you pointed out, he says he commanded them to go take these animals and make these you know, you know, the seven rams and the seven bullocks, and and to go. Now, can you imagine first off, God telling them, My wrath is kindled against you. And then, if that's not enough, he then tells them, now I want you to go to Job so that he can intercede on your behalf to me. Him I will accept on your behalf if he comes to me, if he appeals to me, if he intercedes and advocates for you. Think about this. They have been beating Job up, and he's the one that they have to go to for forgiveness. It's amazing. Can you imagine how low you have to have been made? Seeing that you were the ones telling Job with authority, God is doing this to you. God is showing you Job his wrath because of your sin. And God says, No, my wrath is kindled against you. Like Meg pointed out, my wrath is kindled against you. And now, if that's not enough, I want you to go to Job and ask him to pray for you.

SPEAKER_01

I would have ran 20 miles an hour to get those calves and them rams. I'm not even joking.

SPEAKER_05

It's amazing. You know, you know, it's it's it's it's amazing, and it reminds me, it makes me think of that whole story with in Esther with Hammy. The guy had everything. He had everything. And he and he it wasn't enough to have everything. He wanted to go beyond, and he ended up building these gallows, and he ended up getting himself and his whole family being hung on the very things that he intended for Mordecai and the Jews. And so, but in this case, you know, the idea that after all those chapters that we read, when all these men were having this discourse with Job, telling them, you're this, you're that, and you're that, and God is angry with you, and this is why God is doing this to you. God, God, God, he's doing this to you. And this is the reason why. God tells them they were wrong, he tells them his wrath was kindled against them, and then he tells them, You're gonna seek, your forgiveness is gonna come by way of my servant Job. You go to him, or you will receive my wrath in full force. It's a scary thing. God rebukes these men, he rebukes them all because they spoke wrongly about him, especially in uh insisting that Job's suffering had to be due to some specific sins.

When False Accusations Sound Spiritual

SPEAKER_05

And if I remember right, and this will be in the in the defense of Meg and when we talked about Elihu, because I don't I don't recall Elihu saying anything or questioning how God operates and moves, which is probably the reason why he's not inserted here. Because I don't recall anytime, unless somebody brings it to my mind, anytime where he said something that was wrong about God in terms of how he was dealing with Job. And so, and I think this is why he is not there. So I I give you that, Sister Meg, for sure. Because he he he he he did not. He didn't he didn't accuse God, he didn't he didn't go to Job and telling Job that God is the one inflicting inflicting his wrath on you for just you know sin that you had done. And so that's why I think that he was sort of left out of this situation. We don't know, but that's what I I sort of think. But he didn't do that, and so even though Job did not speak in absolute perfection, he did speak more rightly about God than his three miserable comforters did, for sure. And especially in that he he refused to accept their false accusations, and this is important because when sometimes people will accuse you of things, Christians, all of us you will be engaged in conversations about something, and people sometimes other Christians will come and they will accuse you of something that you know you didn't do, and then it can become so egregious and so uh compelling that you might get this this idea in your mind, maybe this is God speaking to me through them. But you know you didn't do what you're being accused of, but you think that you you you you come to a conclusion that maybe God wants me to accept this, and sometimes out of this false sense of humility, we acquiesce and we start questioning whether or not we did do these things. But see, Job wouldn't do it. He he knew that this was not why he was going through his suffering, and so the lesson in this place is don't be so quick to
