The Bible Provocateur
BibleProvocateur is a podcast that refuses to let Scripture be tamed, sentimentalized, or softened for modern comfort. Here, the Bible is allowed to confront, unsettle, and provoke—just as it always has. Drawing deeply from Reformed theology, church history, and careful exegesis, this podcast presses hard questions about grace, law, repentance, faith, judgment, and the sovereignty of God.
Each episode engages Scripture with historical depth and theological honesty, interacting with Reformers, Puritans, and classic commentators while challenging popular assumptions in contemporary Christianity. This is not reactionary outrage or shallow controversy—it’s principled provocation, aimed at exposing error, sharpening doctrine, and calling the church back to a robust, God-centered faith.
If you’re tired of devotional fluff, allergic to theological clichés, and convinced the Bible still has the authority to offend before it comforts, BibleProvocateur is for you. Come ready to think carefully, repent deeply, and worship a God who refuses to be domesticated.

Babel never really went away. It just keeps changing uniforms. We talk about why every empire project carries that same old temptation to build significance apart from God, and why Christians can’t afford to confuse national power with the Kingdom of God. When the world measures “conquest” by land, bodies, borders, and force, we argue Scripture measures it by hearts made new, sinners redeemed, and willing subjects created by grace.
We dig into the Great Commission as the true answer to Babel: not making people English, Roman, American, or any other culture, but making disciples of Jesus Christ in every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. That leads to a sobering diagnosis: the deepest occupation is not political, it’s spiritual. Sin has occupied the human heart, and Christ enters enemy territory as the stronger man, binds the strong man, and plunders his house through regeneration and the power of the gospel.
From there, the panel gets real about Christian nationalism, “America first,” and the tension of loving your country without worshiping it. We talk citizenship in the kingdom of God, why our trust can’t rest in leaders, and why gospel witness matters more than online arguments. We also touch dispensationalism and how it shapes views of Israel, prophecy, and biblical theology, ending with Revelation’s picture of a redeemed humanity from all nations gathered before the throne. If this conversation challenges you, share it with a friend, subscribe, and leave a review so more listeners can find it.
BE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Babel And The Desire For Empire
SPEAKER_05Apart from the Lord. Every subsequent imperial project bears something of the image of Babel. And at the end of the day, we all understand one thing. If you truly love the Lord, that Christ is going to conquer and destroy every kingdom. Babylon's image is going to fall flat, and it already has. It already has. God's true is the true colonizer of this world. God is colonizing the world. God is colonizing men's souls. This is a remarkable truth of the scripture. God himself intends a worldwide kingdom. A worldwide kingdom. And you know what? He's going to get it.
God’s Kingdom Versus Human Conquest
SPEAKER_05The difference is that his kingdom advances from an entirely different way than man's approach. Men colonize lands. God colonizes hearts. Men conquer bodies. God conquers souls. Men impose and enforce external rule. God creates willing subjects. He gives them a new birth, and that new birth gives them a new outlook. And he makes them willing subjects. Men spread their authority through force. God spreads his kingdom through grace.
Great Commission Answers Babel
SPEAKER_05Christ's great commission is the true answer. The true answer to Babel. Christ said in Matthew 28, verse 19, go ye therefore and teach all nations. All nations. The church is sent into every tribe, every tongue, every people, every nation. We are supposed to go out everywhere. Not to make them English, not to make them Roman, not to make them American, not to make them Jewish, but to make them disciples. Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ. He is the great colonizer of souls. In one sense, the entire history of redemption may be viewed as God reclaiming territory lost through Adam's fall. Getting back what was his.
Christ Binds Satan And Plunders
SPEAKER_05When you go in, when a country invades another country, like right now, you have Israel occupied. They've occupied Lebanon. At least that's what the news is saying. They've occupied Syria, I believe. They occupied the strip. And he's on a tear. Why? Because sin has occupied the human heart. Satan established his dominion in the human heart and has occupied. Nations wander in darkness. All nations wandered in darkness. And then Christ came as the stronger man than Satan. And he, our Lord, he came here entering into enemy territory. And he bound Satan. He bound the strong man. And then he plundered his house. He took back what was his. By regeneration. And God lays claim to men and women from every people group on the planet. The king conquers, not by destroying his enemies, but by transforming them and making them citizens of his kingdom. And so I want to conclude here by saying this.
Christ’s Kingdom Only
SPEAKER_05Ancient Israel was tempted to expect it. Rome sought it. Empire sought it. Colonial powers sought it. Modern ideologies today, they seek it. But Scripture declares that the earth belongs neither to Israel, nor to Rome, nor to Britain, nor to America, and not to any earthly people. You've heard the mantra, America first. No. America is not first. Christ's kingdom. Is Christ's kingdom first? No. Not even Christ's kingdom is first. Christ's kingdom only. Only. There is only Christ's kingdom. The inheritance belongs to him, the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 11, verse 15 says this. So if that is true, then these countries are wasting time fighting against each other. But that's the nature of sin. But the scripture tells us believers that all the kingdoms of this world are going to be subdued by Christ and they're going to become his kingdoms. The promise was never made that one ethnicity or group of people or nation or whatever would ultimately possess the world. The promise was that the Messiah, he would possess the world. And that through faith in him, men and women from every nation would share in his inheritance. He has made us co-heirs, joint heirs with Christ, heirs with God and joint heirs with Christ.
Our Inheritance Outshines Earthly Wealth
SPEAKER_05It's an unimaginable thing. You know, people are talking about how Elon Musk is the first trillionaire, which he's not, by the way. But in modern times, it is definitely a feat, a monumental feat. It's a shame that one person could accumulate so much wealth. But yet here we are. But just think our inheritance that we have right now makes what he has look like dirt. Pennies. We are joint heirs with the Lord Jesus Christ. Joint heirs. So this final vision of Scripture is not one nation ruling all others, but a redeemed humanity gathered before God's tribunal throne. Where it says in Revelation 7, verse 9, of all nations, all kindreds, all people, all tongues. There stands God's true colony. Those blessed people who are told to enter into that final rest, that will be God's truly colonized people. Not an empire of conquests, a kingdom of grace, not subjects subdued by force, but sinners redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Christians, you have no idea how much power is in your very lips when you speak the gospel of Christ to the lost sinner. Look ye to Christ, all you ends of the earth, and be ye saved. Be provoked and be persuaded.
Final Words From The Panel
SPEAKER_05I'd like to welcome everybody that's on the panel right now and give everyone here a final word. I don't want to have the final word, I want to let all of you have the final word. So I want to say good morning again and happy Father's Day to everyone who's a father and to everyone who has your father still present with you today. I'll start with you, Brother Jay. Your last remark for today.
SPEAKER_10I agree completely what you say there. The only half one question I want to have has to do with Christian history. Did the Puritans want to stab a new Jerusalem in the Irish faith? I I've read that.
SPEAKER_05I haven't read that. I haven't read that. But I do know that I do know that there are a lot of post-mill people who believe something similar to that. And but I mean what I believe is pretty much what I just got through talking about. And so and so, but if you had if you read that somewhere, because you know a lot of people tell me they read things that I have never heard of, and I I read a lot of the Puritans, so if you read that somewhere, I'd be interested to see it. And I can answer your question more pointedly if I could. So if you can find it, let me know.
SPEAKER_10Okay.
SPEAKER_05Sister Vanessa. Good morning.
SPEAKER_08Good morning. That's an afternoon for me, but good morning. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yes, afternoon for me too. Yeah, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_08That's all right. You know, this I knew all this stuff, but I love you telling about it because it's like it just makes me know more, you know, that there ain't no there man wants to be powerful and money hungry. And there's no way that God's ever gonna let his kingdom go because of another person.
SPEAKER_07That's right.
SPEAKER_08And I'm I'm just grateful. That's all I can say today.
SPEAKER_05Amen. Brother Jeff, man of God, what's your perspective? I know you got a good history, history background as well. So what do you think?
SPEAKER_03Well, um, my brother and my sisters and brothers here. I mean, what you said is well said. I totally agree with everything you said, and you know, the problem goes all the way back. I mean, the thing is, the moment we took our eyes off of the Lord and started looking inward, we started worshiping self. And that's the root. That's the root of the problem. And, you know, what I see is that man has never stopped there. When you look at the way nations have conquered through the thing and manifest destiny and all this nonsense, I mean, it's all it's all using hope at times Christianity. I mean, you know, I was thinking of the Crusades and the Templars riding into battle saying Deus Volt Woltz, which means you know means God wills it. Yeah, God didn't will a thing. You know, I mean, I can guarantee you that when I read about them, I say, you guys are you guys are just way off. And but the thing is that use a thin veneer for basically self. I mean, we wanted every we wanted all the land in this country, and we just took it. We just made up an excuse to cover it. I mean, we killed the indigenous people, you know, and relocated them and did whatever we wanted. And then try to say, yes, it was our manifest destiny. But anyway, my brother, uh, this has been really rich. I mean, it's uh it's reinforced what I believe, and well, not that that's important, but well, anyway, my brother, I I totally agree with you. This is well done, and I'm glad you did it because people need to hear this. People need to hear it. Well, thanks, my brother. I'll see you're you're in the night, too, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'm tonight on Revelation chapter one. Yep, still.
SPEAKER_03I will be there, Lord willing. If if I'm never not there, enough to say I'll be there. You might want to see if I'm uh with the Lord. You know, given the fact that I'm as ancient as I am, anyway.
SPEAKER_05Well, God bless your brother, and happy Father's Day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, thank you, my brother, saying to you.
SPEAKER_05Sister Mariah, a last word.
SPEAKER_00Well, this has been one that I'll have to, you know, ponder on and and just think on because I'm not really a huge historical person or one to have a whole bunch of knowledge on this, but what is said is true, and it's what I believe. You know, you just put it in a more plain way in in which the world sees it. And which is very true because, you know, I never noticed how much the dispensational view is prominent everywhere. It's like it's like infiltrated all the churches, their whole understanding. And so I think that this is great. It's something that needs to be spoken on, and and so that people who are unlearned or under this doctrine of dispensation that they could actually know what God's true plan is and what his true desires are. And it's not that one of a fleshly kingdom. So great job. I'm I'm so excited uh that I was here for this message.
SPEAKER_05Thank you, sister. Appreciate it, Sister Joni. Your last word for today. Good afternoon.
SPEAKER_00Happy Father's Day, you guys.
SPEAKER_06Sorry, happy Father's Day, happy Father's Day, everyone also and you, Jonathan. And you can say it to my husband because he's laying right here.
SPEAKER_04Hey, Jonathan, happy Father's Day, man. Same to you.
Gospel Witness Over National Pride
SPEAKER_04Your message in a nutshell, Jonathan. Our citizenship is not in the United States, it's in the kingdom of God. Remember, that's what our citizenship is.
SPEAKER_06So you said a whole lot. And like Mariah, I am not a historian. However, I do like history. Okay, like I like I like dates and looking back and always have, but kind of never mind. But anyway, when you first started speaking about countries wanting to overtake other countries and stuff like that, the first thing I thought of was, well, isn't that what Rome did to Israel?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Pretty much.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, they did.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And so, and then we get to the United States. I may have a different look being only here since I was 40, so 24 years. But I believe that United States think they're better than anyone else. I believe, and I'm happy to be an American, don't get me wrong.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_06And I believe that they have historically put their nose in everybody else's business that didn't need to be put in. And they did it for why, so they could be recognized as being so good. Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_05Right. I get what you mean. It's like, see, the the thing is, what I'm what I'm trying to do, what I what I what I was trying to do here was to explain where that mentality came from. Because it's a it's it's a it's a it's a mentality that God actually has, but man has distorted. Right. So the you know, so the whole idea is is is that dominating people is something that is going to happen. The issue is how that's going to happen and who is the one that has the right to that authority. And only one has that.
SPEAKER_06God. Absolutely. Yeah. I thought a lot of different things, but I didn't write them down. But I could have talked quite a bit on my thoughts, you know, right, wrong, or indifferent. But and I don't mean to make it sound like I don't love the United States of America because I do and I choose to live here.
SPEAKER_05I just we we all love it. We are we all love our country. That's not really the issue to draw hate. The issue is for us to have a right heart about the true kingdom, which will outdo and subdue all others. And if our and if our mission is right and we take the gospel, which it is right, and we take the gospel to all people, it can have an effect, a positive impact on our own country. If we if we really love America like we say we do, then it should be reflected in our preaching the gospel to the people of America.
SPEAKER_06That's right. Amen to that.
SPEAKER_05You know, and that's how I see it. That's how I see it. If I love my brother, I if I love my brother, my family, and I don't preach them the gospel, how can I say I love them?
SPEAKER_06You can't.
SPEAKER_05You know, and this is what this is what we need to do. We need to there need to be a mindset, a mindset shift in the modern Christian mind.
SPEAKER_06And I've always been like that ever since I was saved. Like I wanted to share with whoever I crossed paths with. Not maybe everyone, but those who I felt a lead to, right? You know, God was leading me to. And I had a couple of people over time say, How did you know I was a slip, I had slipped back, you know, I was in my Christian or my walk or whatever, and and you know, I have people crying, I didn't even know them. I think the one thing that people are afraid of when it comes to talking to others about Christ is that they will be rejected. And my thought is, well, who cares? I don't know them from a hella beans. Sometimes it may be family and people we do know, and we do care if we're rejected, but the only one we really need to care about being rejected from is Jesus Christ our Lord.
SPEAKER_05Amen, sister.
SPEAKER_06And if he rejects us, then we got a problem.
SPEAKER_05That's right. That's a big problem there. That's a big problem. Good one.
SPEAKER_06And a lot of people probably have it that don't even recognize it.
SPEAKER_05That's right. That's right.
SPEAKER_06So anyway, that's all I got to say.
unknownThank you, sister.
SPEAKER_05Sister Sean. Sister Shine, what do you say? Your last word.
SPEAKER_09About nationalism?
SPEAKER_05No, just whatever. It doesn't have to be about nationalism. That's that really that really is more like the a way to sort of project where we really should focus our attention, which is on building Christ's kingdom, but whatever's on your heart.
SPEAKER_09Amen. Just the gospel and how simple it is, you know, and that is for all kindreds of people, like you were saying before. And a lot of people want to gatekeep it for themselves or turn it into you know their own organization trying to use it as a means of control.
SPEAKER_05Right.
SPEAKER_09And it's not it's about, you know, freedom and liberty in Christ. You know, he saved us from being slaves to sin.
SPEAKER_05It's it's right, sister. It's like what I was saying earlier, and that's why I made that allusion to the occupation of sin in the heart of man. You know, and so and and and it's our goal to make people, you know, we have countries that are going over occupying other territories, occupying other countries, and we are neglecting to remind people that they are occupied by sin in their heart, and that's is what needs to be dealt with. That's what we need to be that's what needs to be dealt with, and so and it is and it will, and this is what Christ is doing currently. And so, so good words, Sister Shy. Appreciate it. Brother Pat, your last word, brother.
Israel As Patriarch In Christ
SPEAKER_01Man, you know I have a lot to say about dispensationalism, Jonathan. The biblical illiteracy that it causes and the the misunderstandings that it it promotes are just devastating. And I wish it was just an eschatology, but they it causes them to not understand what the nation of Israel is. It causes them to not understand what prophecy is, not understand the Old Testament or or the purpose of any of the characters in the Old Testament and the and the people. So can I give a little breakdown, Jonathan?
SPEAKER_05Sure. Is that okay with you? Absolutely. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna explain something to you guys that if you've never heard will change your life. A tree must have a root. Branches can't exist without a vine. Sheep pen can't exist without a shepherd. The field cannot exist without the landowner. You're hearing all these biblical examples. A nation cannot exist without a patriarch. What I want you to understand about what the nation of Israel is, these are all the same example told in different ways. A tree with a root, the branches must have a vine, the sheep pen must have a shepherd, and a nation must have a patriarch. So this is what you need to understand about what the nation of Israel is. The name Israel is given to a patriarch, not to a country. It's not like Brazil, right? And the nation under that, who's born of that patriarch, takes on that name. Okay? You see Jacob given the name Israel, right? His name is Israel, he's the patriarch, his children are a holy nation. But then we find out that that name in the Bi in the Old Testament is actually a name that was given to him that was someone else's name. A Messiah, Jeremiah says, who's going to come in the line of David and restore the nation? Israel is a person, he's a patriarch, and in him you are the Israel of God. So there is no such thing as a country without Jesus called Israel. We need to get this straight. The Israel of God is Jesus, and we are the Israel of God in him, a holy nation. That's all I have to say, Jonathan.
SPEAKER_05Thank you, brother. Appreciate it, Pat. As always. As always. Sister Mae, last word.
July 4 And Heart Allegiance
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this was really good. For me, it's just, I think at the end of the day, you know, you know, Solomon wrote it. Everything is like chasing the wind. And so many times we get into a space where we we, you know, we can talk about the world and all this, but in the end, the only thing that lasts forever is the Lord Jesus Christ, his word, and our salvation. And so everything else, that's to it's gonna pass away. But the word of the Lord, the Bible says, will never pass away. And so that's what I'm confident in, and that's what my focus on. The Lord.
SPEAKER_05Would you like to add anything? Give us a last word.
SPEAKER_07I just I'm so glad that you spoke on this topic today because I've been feeling conflicted about not being in the spirit of celebrating the upcoming holiday, the July 4th holiday, because that's not where my heart is. Like my heart is with God. Do I still cry when I hear the national anthem at a baseball game? Yes, I do. But I cry more when I hear Amazing Grace in church. So I don't agree with everything that we are doing here in this country. I don't trust our leaders like I should. I pray for them, but I don't necessarily put my trust in them. My trust is in Jesus Christ. My trust is in the King of Kings. No matter what else happens on this earth between different countries, I'm not gonna get into those arguments on TikTok anymore. I'm not gonna be in discord with people. We're here to teach love right and the gospel.
SPEAKER_05That's right, sister. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_07So I'm just like my heart is not in spending money on, say, a commemorative t shirt or whatever, but that doesn't mean I don't love my country and I love my fellow Americans.
unknownAmen.
SPEAKER_05I love that, sister. Great, great contribution. I love that. I agree with that.
