How $400,000 in Habitat ReStore Sales (and Volunteers, Sweat Equity!) Fuels Affordable Homes for Families!
How does a non-profit like Habitat for Humanity do such incredible work to provide affordable housing to families? Through its volunteers, donations, and the money raise through its awesome ReStore thrift shops sales, of course! This week I sat down with Jeff Dee, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Metro (the local affiliate here in Maryland, DC, and Virginia) to talk about how Habitat for Humanity got started, how they design their homes for maximum efficiency, how it selects families to buy a Habitat home, the nurturing provided for these homebuyers, why volunteers are the lifeblood of this non-profit, and how and why you should consider volunteering with Habitat (even if you have no building experience).
